What to do on the weekend?

Now with the week passing by so fast, I want to give you some inspirations on what to do on the weekend, since Vancouver has plenty of things to see!

Joffre Lakes
Swedish Midsommar

Starting off with two super cool Internex Events, the first one will be on Saturday where we get the chance to visit Joffre Lakes for a hike. Joffre Lakes is a beautiful area with three crystal clear blue ice cold lakes that mirror the surrounding mountains. The higher you hike up, the more beautiful the lakes will get ;). The difficulty of the trail is intermediate with lots of beautiful nature around you, so it’s definitely worth the sweat! You can also cool down in one of the lakes if you dare! The round trip is about 10 km in approximately 4 hours. The trail also got an elevation gain from about 350 metres, so I think anyone can do it! Be sure not to miss this nature experience! And bring lots of water and snacks with you!

Since on Monday the national Thanksgiving Day is celebrated all over Canada, we thought about making our own little INTERNeX Thanksgiving, or Friendsgiving on Sunday. 😉 We are going to meet up at a beautiful park close to the beach in Kitsilano to celebrate together. We will provide a traditional cooked turkey and ask everyone to bring one dish to the party. You can either make something at home, or buy something from the store. This idea is called ‘potluck’ and is very popular here in Canada. That way everyone can contribute and we can all share lots of amazing dishes! On top of that we prepared some super cool games like Kubb or a trivia. PS: We can also have some drinks in the park ;). Afterwards there’s always the option to go to a pub and celebrate throughout the night (remember Monday is a holiday). Be sure not to miss this event since Thanksgiving is only once a year! We are excited to share this special Northern American holiday with many of you and are stoked about lots of good food, drinks and games in the sun.

If you are into electronic music or Techno I can recommend you going to the Blue Print 25 anniversary Festival with artists like Armin Van Buuren, Kaskade, Fisher and many more. You can get a Festival Ticket or buy a ticket for a specific show. It takes place from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th of October and will be at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE)- Forum. I bought a ticket for Fisher and I’m so hyped for the performance and the atmosphere. There are some tickets left, so be go and get one! I’m sure it’ll be great!

For those people who don’t want to have their ears blown off by the sounds of the electronic music I have another great inspiration for you. Why not visit the Van Dusen Botanical Garden in South Granville? Not only do you the chance to go out of the ever busy city centre of Vancouver, but you’ll see so many flowers, plants, trees and green areas all over the garden. It is fringed by local and exotic flora. The garden is home to more than 250000 plants representing some of the worlds most distinct growing regions. I recommend you taking a self-guided tour sheet at the entrance and make your way through the garden with the Rhododendron Walk or the Laburnum walk. Be sure to check out the Elizabethan Maze to feel completely lost. =) It is a good place to slow down your heart to tranquility and relax after a busy week.

Whatever you are going to do in Vancouver this weekend, I hope you have a great weekend and make some everlasting experiences! I’m so excited to hear from them at next weeks Pub Night.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend!

Cheers,

Tino =)

How was your weekend?

Monday. Time to look back on the weekend. Here we go!

sdrFriday. I started off the weekend with a relaxed evening at Sunset Beach. Many joined INTERNeX’ spontaneous ‘Pizza & Sunset’ event. Favourite action of the night involved throwing around wooden sticks. The game is called Kubb, which is a famous Swedish outdoor activity. Even people walking by the beach stopped, took pictures and asked for the rules. I’m sure we’re setting a new trend here with this game. The night passed by quickly with eating pizza, playing card games, chatting and watching the stunning sunset. When it got dark and a bit cooler, a few of us went to a pub on Davie Street for a pint (greets to our English guys) and some more card games.

Saturday. Time to sleep in and take it easy this morning, before the next INTERNeX event of j4.jpgthe weekend started. ‘Honda Celebration of Light’ was planned for the evening. Many people were expected to attend this great event, so we already headed to English Bay in the afternoon to reserve a good spot. Not the worst place to spend a hot day like Saturday, especially with good company. More and more people of our gang arrived and settled down. We bridged the time until the firework started with games, music and snacks. Then, it was finally time for the big show, which was prepared by a team from South Africa. They did a great job! It was beautiful to see the fireworks lightening the sky for nearly half an hour. On our way home, we accidentally walked along the Relish, so we took the chance and got ourselves a pint, of course.

Bike blog.jpgSunday. Literally. To cool down a bit, I decided to visit the Metropolis shopping mall for a few hours. A great place to find everything you need, including 888 paper mache pandas. These are part of an exhibition that is traveling around the world. However, the weather was too nice to spend the entire day indoors. A great outdoor activity for hot days? Cycling! The place-to-be to do so is definitely Stanley Park. After a short stop at the bike rental, we got our one-speed-cruisers and biked relaxed around the seawall. I was, again, impressed by the beautiful nature so close to busy downtown. Amazing! The weekend ended with Sushi (no pint this time ;-)) and a lovely sunset on the way home.

That’s how I spent another perfect weekend in Vancouver. I hope you had a good one as well! See you at Wednesday’s PuB NiGHT at The Lennox Pub.

How was your weekend?

Oh no, it is Monday already? Time to head back to the office. But before I start working, let’s look back on my fun and relaxing weekend.

42108452055_035e6cabf4_nOn Saturday, I celebrated Swedish Midsommar with some of you. Why? Well, we have some Swedish candidates among us! Including Billy, who turned 22 on this day. Happy birthday Billy! At 12pm, we met up at Cooper’s Park. We decorated the nearest tree with blue and yellow streamers to make the area look as Swedish as possible. The first tradition on our list: making flower crowns. Within more or less an hour, most of us walked around with a bunch of flowers on our head.

Then, it was time to play the game of the day: Kubb! For those of you who don’t know it, I will give a short explanation: Kubb takes place on a rectangular field. This field consists of wooden blocks and a king. Basically, players have to throw wooden sticks at the wooden blocks from the other team, with the intention of knocking them down. This needs to happen without accidentally hitting the king (or another player, for that matter). Once the first team has knocked down all five blocks, they need to knock down the king and if they succeed, they win. It was my first time playing the game and I really liked it.

42960537872_c861440113_nAfter we played a few rounds of Kubb, it was time to have some food. Considering a strawberry cake is part of the Swedish Midsommar tradition, Elisabeth baked one for the event. Well done, Elisabeth, it was delicious! Besides a cake, we had more treats including Swedish (veggie) meatballs and wraps. When our stomachs were filled, we were ready to play some more rounds of Kubb. Fun fact: my “team”, which consisted of Antonia and me, won this time! ☺ We were slightly exhausted after the latest round, so we decided to sit down and relax for a while. A couple of conversations about life later, it was time to head home.

On Sunday, I started the day with a FaceTime call from my mom and stepdad. We talked for a couple of hours, so you can tell we had a lot to catch up on. Later that day, I decided to go to the park near my house and read for a while. After a few hours, it seemed like it was going to rain, so I went home and spent the rest of my evening talking to friends and watching One Tree Hill.

I hope you all had a great weekend! See you on Wednesday at the Beaver Bar for PuB NiGHT!
