INTERNeX Through the Looking Glass -Destination Colombia

Colombia
“Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected
for the rest of my life.” By Michael Palin. Can his words be any truer?

Amiel here with the latest INTERNeX Destination after Wednesday’s post about Ireland. We’re back in the Americas but not quite home. We’re going further to the south where the conquistadors came to take the land many, many years ago.

Colombia, the gate to South America. Just pick a climate and you’ll find it there. It has deserts, jungles, coast lines or snowy peaks, you name it. And each of these areas is bursting with colors and beauty.
This piece of Latin America used to be known as a country riddled with crimes and powerful drug lords. However, it has been reinventing itself in recent years and Medellín, City of Eternal Spring, was even nominated one of the most innovative cities in 2012.
In the same year Colombia was even crowned as the happiest country in the world. Why do you think that is? Well, they have the second highest biodiversity of animal and plant life in the whole world. They have the best coffee and beautiful natural phenomena like Caño Cristales. Colombia is also pretty rich in culture with Cali, the capital of Salsa or the legend of El Dorado.
This country has so much to offer, I can’t even tell you about it without writing a book or two. That would make anyone proud of his or her country happy right?Colombia

So my suggestion? Check out Colombia for yourself! You will most certainly be blown away by what you see there.
I for one can’t wait until I get the chance to visit my Colombian friends I made during my time in Peru.

Salud y hasta luego!

INTERNeX Through the Looking Glass -Intro

My name is Amiel and I’m taking part in INTERNeX’ Practicum Program as a practicum student at INTERNeX. Wow, that almost sounded like a tongue twister! 😀the new guy

Alright, why am I here writing this blogpost and introducing myself? What I want to do today is tell you a little about INTERNeX from my perspective with the topics of: Who are they? And what do they do?

First, something about myself. I’m a German university student, in my final year before completing my Bachelor’s degree in International Business Administration. Here in Vancouver, I’m currently about half way through my 4 month practicum working as a PR Coordinator on the one side but also doing Social Media Marketing on the other. I’ve already learned so much and had extremely fun experiences! Time really flies and there’s always much too little of it.

Now, who is INTERNeX?
The company was founded by Timothy Wells in 1998. In a nutshell, it’s an organization that gives you the opportunity to explore the world by helping you live and work in a foreign country. However, I believe it is so much more. INTERNeX is a global community of people eager to meet and learn about new places, people and their cultures around the world. Besides providing their services to the candidates they integrate all of them in weekly and monthly social activities, making it feel like you’re hanging out with a bunch of friends. It’s really incredible and I haven’t met or even heard of any other organization that does the same for its participants.

So, what exactly does INTERNeX do?
There are three main programs: Ranch Stay, Hospitality and the Practicum Program. They also give you the possibility to take part in a Volunteering Program through Fronteering (check out their website at: www.fronteering.com). INTERNeX has a close and lifelong relationship with them. In other words a partnership.
Through the help of these programs participants who want to gain practical experience are able to receive placements well-suited to their needs. The mission is to promote personal success and assist the candidates in achieving their goals while nurturing cultural understanding in this multi-cultural community.

Well, that was all for today! This week was only an introduction into the world of INTERNeX. In case you want to learn more, check out my blogposts over the upcoming weeks in which I’ll be going into more detail about the programs INTERNeX provides OR just visit the homepage at: www.internexworld.com

Cheers!

About INTERNeX: Hospitality Program!

Are you getting bored with your daily routine? Looking to travel? How about working WHILE being a tourist? Experience the working life in a hotel, resort or any company in a tourism community through INTERNeX’s Hospitality program!

Our program offers you an opportunity to travel abroad and work in world-class cities in the hospitality sector as well as paid positions in resort communities. It doesn’t matter whether you are just taking a break from school or recently graduated, travelling abroad and working with other travelers is both rewarding and exciting!

What are some of other benefits through this program other than working? Well you will be able to improve your language skills, gain experience in the hospitality/tourism industry and especially, learn about Canadian culture!

But working abroad is different than just simply being a “tourist” in a city. It allows you to truly experience what it’s like to live there. This means not only seeing the glamorous aspects of the city but the not-so great parts as well, giving you a more honest and realistic perspective of the place. Also, getting to meet new people daily while working in this ever growing industry and traveling around makes everyday count and never dull! And of course, you will have the best times through our pub nights and weekly activities!

Mark Twain once said, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did“.  In other words, we shouldn’t be afraid to take chances in life. So will you be next? 😉  For more information please visit our INTERNeX WORLD Website!

INTERNeX Program: Hospitality

INTERNeX offers all sorts of different programs, and one of them is hospitality! This program offers young people, with all kinds of backgrounds, a great opportunity to live, travel and work in Canada.

Are you interested in coming to Canada, but need money to be able to support your travels? INTERNeX can find a job for you in the hospitality and tourism industry for approximately 30 hours in the week. And the rest of the time you can use to explore and discover Canada!

The hospitality program gives you the great chance:

  • Improve your language skills
  • Gain work experience in the dynamic hospitality and tourism industry
  • Learn about the Canadian culture
  • Experience how it is to work with people from different countries
  • Become more independent

The best places to find work in this industry are in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto. Here you can work in a restaurant or cafe.

If you would like to work in a hotel then there are multiple opportunities in Whistler and Banff.

16 weeks is the minimum time you can stay, but of course if you would love to stay longer that is not a problem as well!
