INTERNeX Canada: Flora says “it’s time for us to part, my friends!”

I can’t believe my internship here at INTERNeX has come to an end! Wednesday is really an odd day to end, isn’t it?

To be honest with you,  I was a complete nervous wreck when I first started way back in January. Everything was so overwhelming and every single task terrified me. As soon as I heard that I  might be the only PR intern working, I was seriously worried…had I made the right choice? But of course, the answer was yes. I don’t think I’ll ever regret this…especially because I was able to meet so many wonderful people. To everyone (including those who have already left Vancouver), although it might have been a short time, I had so much fun and thanks for being AWESOME.

I’ll always remember our hilarious pub nights, trips on the weekends, the beautiful and fun Rockies trip, and of course that amazing pub and club night last Friday. I want to let you all know that you have impacted my life in so many ways. To all the staff in the office, thank you for being so encouraging and supportive. It’s actually weird that I have to leave…I was just getting so comfortable here!

What’s next for me, you ask? Well, it’s back to being a student for the moment. Yep, that means textbooks and exams (no more pub nights for me on weekdays…no tequila shots). And after that, who knows! But I’ll still be around in Vancouver so we can hangout!

I want to leave with a quote (you might have read it on my desk frame), “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened” -Dr. Seuss. What an incredible, amazing, lovely, humbling, fun, and most of all, learning, experience. I’ll miss everyone and not being the one in charge haha but hey, it’s my turn to sit back.

note* I think out of all my blog posts, this was the hardest to write. I just didn’t know where to begin.

See you around,

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: Expose of the week with Bettina

Today’s expose of the week is with Bettina. She is from Germany and came to Canada because she always wanted to know more about the culture, work, food and of course the nature Vancouver is surrounded with. Bettina is going to be here in Canada until the beginning of May, which is a good thing because she will do her thesis here about Canadian stereotypes.

  • What kind of internship are you doing?

I am doing an internship at a non-profit organization. This organization helps people find work, create new own business and does Green renovations.  At this company I am the “everything girl”; which means public relations, marketing and promotion trough flyers, brochures and writing articles.

  • Is your internship useful?

Yes, my internship is definitely useful, because the company shows me so much support, trust and always provides something new and challenging. They really integrate me into the team are patient and helping me develop myself.

  • What kind of tasks are you responsible for on daily basis?

I am writing articles, e-mails to clients, testimonials and make brochures, storybooks as well as work process.

  • What is the best thing about your internship?

The event I had last week. The event was a talk show where three social enterprises presented their companies. The speech that my company did was really inspiring and I learned a lot about it.

  • What do you like most about Canada and Vancouver?

I like everything about Vancouver so far, when I go to work I see the mountains and the harbor as well as the culture of the people I meets and the atmosphere everywhere.

I am saving money to travel after het internship. However I am planning to go and see the park in Vancouver and different other places.

  •  Why did you choose INTERNeX International Exchange?

I was looking online for an internship and the website from INTERNeX was clear and the programs really appealed to me. I contacted INTERNeX and everything from communication to the internship position is really good “I just liked it”.

I think that the best thing is that they connect people; they have good communication as well as offer adventures in foreign countries.

INTERNeX Canada: Expose of the week

This week in the expose of the week Cathrine is talking about her experiences with INTERNeX. Cathrine is from St. Ingbert in Germany she stayed for 4 beautiful months in Vancouver. She went to Canada because she loves the cold weather and the snow. Especially after her uncle told her so much about his trip from Toronto to Vancouver, she didn’t even have a choice, because all his stories made her fall in love with Canada. Cathrine is now sure that his stories were right and Vancouver gave her a home with open arms.

Cathrine, what kind of internship are you doing?

I did an internship at a non-profit sports organization, which deals with almost everything around cycling. Let me explain:

At first there is the part, where some of my coworkers are going to schools and bring the sport closer to the kids. They show the kids the different kinds of cycle sport and push them to go more outside and enjoy their life more healthy.

The second part is the licensing, which was also one part of my work. Licensing in this case means, that people who want to race professional need a license with an insurance, which they can show if they are going to a race. It’s a kind of ID for professional racer and for free time athletes.

The third part is divided into subgroups, which means BMX, Cyclo-Cross, Mountain Bike, Race and Track and for sure Para-Cycling. All of them get supported by the company and we coordinate all the races for them.

Another part, was our presence on Facebook, Twitter and for sure our website. I worked on a new design for our website and also upgraded your social networks.

And with a big thank you to my boss I can really say, that I saw almost every part of the organization. Like the scheduling for the BMX world cup, which includes also a website, advertising, sponsoring etc.

Was your internship useful?

Yes, my internship is really useful, because it shows me a lot about the sport, how these companies are structured and how they work and deal with clients, which I can use in Germany. Beside of that my boss showed me a whole new passion and an opportunity to find a job or a place to study in Germany.

What kind of tasks are you responsible for on daily basis?

Add licenses, print and send licenses out, advertising, sponsoring, website post and web design, Facebook and Twitter posts, creating web design for our website, start the whole design for the BMX world cup.

What was the best thing about your internship?

The best thing about my internship was the environment and the huge support of my boss, because he showed me a lost passion and with that a way in a good future. Furthermore he was still listening to me, which means, if there was anything, which I thought could be done in a better way he was listening and if it was possible the situation changed. And the work makes so much fun, I can really say I was so happy to be there and had all this great time.

What do you like most about Canada and Vancouver?

Actually, I really like everything, the culture, the people, my friends, the structure…

But what I love the most is, that it was coming home! As I arrived on the airport, I could directly see beautiful mountains and the weather was cold, which is really a thing what I love. And the people there, I meet so many true friends that it was hard for me to leave and for sure I will come back.

But the most important point beside of the new friends is that Canadians and specially people from BC are so spoiled by nature.

What trips did you do in your free time, also organized by INTERNeX?

If I didn’t do a trip by my own I went there with different organizations. I went to: Whistler, Banff, Cypress, Seymour, Grouse, different parts of Vancouver (Chinatown, different parks etc), Victoria, Fort Langley, Lake Louise, Sicamous, Calgary, Abbotsford, Canucks games, Botanical Garden, Stanley Park, Queen Elisabeth Park, Ice-skating etc. I had so much fun and enjoyed myself immensely in and around Vancouver.

Do you attend the weekly Pub-Night organized by INTERNeX and do you think this is a good way to meet new people?

I am still sorry that I never found time for it, but for me it was so easy to find new and good friends but I am still sure that it is a good and easy way to find friends and that a lot of people will enjoy it.

Why did you choose INTERNeX International Exchange

I booked my INTERNeX internship program with a German agency, and all I can say is that all my experiences are really good.

What’s the best thing about INTERNeX International Exchange?

That you can be free and collect the experience by yourself, but that they still help you, if you need them. Like a big brother.

How did you find a place to stay?

I found a homestay family trough INTERNeX, however I did not see eye to eye with my first host family. That is why I was really glad that INTERNeX helped me with finding a new host family.

Would you recommend INTERNeX International Exchange?

Yes, I would

Thank you Cathrine for giving a testimonial of your experiences here in Canada.

I wish you the best of luck in the future.

Greetings,

Petra

Picture of the week!

It’s picture of the week time again! This week the picture is from Junhwe, who we all know as Jun! Jun is one of the INTERNeX candidates and he has been in Vancouver since last July. He first learnt English at a language school for 8 months and now he is working for a non-profit organization as an intern.

The picture is taken in Whistler on the Wicked Whistler Weekend trip.  Jun says: ‘The Whistler trip was one of the most remarkable, unforgettable trips since I came here. My friends and I had a wicked experience and we spend a incredibly great time together over there. If I have a chance to participate in another INTERNeX trip, I will definitely go again!’ He loves to ski on the fresh and soft powdery snow and afterwards jumping in the hot tub with a cold beer. He thinks this picture is the best shot they took during the Whistler weekend and that is why it is the picture of the week!

Would you like to be the picture of the week next week? Do you have a picture of your great experience here in Canada? or something that’s related to Canada, INTERNeX or something else that’s fun? Send it to pr@internexcanada.com with a small description, and maybe your picture will be the picture of the week next time!

Cheers,

Claudia
