INTERNeX Canada: Picture of the Week

Our picture of the week is one of Josephine from Germany

Josephine just finished school in Germany and went to Canada to collect some awesome experiences before going off to college. Usually she is more comfortable in French, but she takes on the challenge of dealing with the Vancouverites and their talk about the weather in English. Read what Josephine thinks about Vancouver and her internship at Living Blueprint so far…

How did you find INTERNeX International Exchange?

It’s a great chance! I’m so happy to be here.

Why did you choose to go to Canada?

I wanted to go to a very special country! Canada is definitely special: it’s bilingual, has a beautiful landscape and nice people, …

How do you like your internship?

My internship is awesome! I have a lot of fun here and learn a lot of new things about Marketing and Branding every day.

What kind of tasks are you responsible for on a daily basis?

There is no special task I really do every day. In the first week I learned to work with programs like InDesign. Now, I am working on some little “projects”  to improve my knowledge about this software and to practice it. Additionally, I just look over my colleague’s shoulder from time to time to take part in the current events.

What are the downsides so far?

There aren’t really downsides so far. Just the weather at the moment…but that is something I expected 😀

What do you like most about Vancouver?

The landscape around the city!

Where have you been in and around Vancouver?

I was at Lynn Canyon, in Downtown, at the Chinese Garden, at Jericho Beach and yesterday I went to the hockey game of the Canucks vs. New York Rangers! It was so amazing!

What is the most surprising thing you have seen or noticed so far in Vancouver?

People say “thank you” to the bus driver when they get off the bus. First, that was a bit unusual to me but I think it’s really nice!

Thanks for your insight, Josi.

INTERNeX Canada: Exposé of the week ft Maike

This week, we are interviewing Maike Lied who came from Germany to do an internship in Canada. She has been in Vancouver for 5 months since last year October 2012 and will be leaving in just a few short days at the end of February! So here is what she had to say about her experience in Canada:

Why did you choose Canada?

I didn’t want to go somewhere that was really overrated, like New York City for example. But I still wanted to go to a place that was city-like so I wouldn’t feel completely isolated. Another reason I chose Canada was because I heard from a friend of mine that it was such a beautiful place with nice people…so you could say I was pretty much convinced!

What do you like most about Vancouver?

I like the fact that you can pretty much do EVERYTHING here. Whether it’s hiking, skiing, going to the beach, or just wanting to enjoy a city life, Vancouver has it all! I thought that the people here are also so relaxed, friendly, and patient!

How did you like your internship and what kind of tasks were you responsible for on a daily basis?

The internship was great, I  loved it! I loved the people that I got to work with at my internship. When I first started working, I did a bit of everything like working with Photoshop  Adobe, and other designing tasks. Near the end of the internship, I got to work on WordPress and building websites! I really enjoyed that I got to work on a lot of different things and not just one task, and I learned a lot!

Is it related to your study you did back home?

In a way yes, because although I have a BA in business administration, I also majored in marketing and my internship was similar to that. When David would talk to clients, I got to learn about how to get business’s started and how to get their websites up and running.

Where have you been in and around Vancouver?

Well I honestly have been to so many places around Vancouver but I have been to Coquitlam to North Vancouver to Whistler!

What is the most memorable thing you did in Canada?

This is tough because I have so many amazing memories here. One memorable thing I did in Canada was spending the Christmas holidays with my Vancouver friends, baking and eating lot’s of delicious food! Another lasting memory of Canada is from my internship because I’ve met so many great people there and I’ll miss them a lot.

What is the first thing you’ll do when you return home?

SLEEP. I’ll be so jet-lagged which is why I’d love to just spend my days sleeping! Also, I would definitely spend a lot of time with family, my boyfriend, and everyone I have missed back home.

What is the worst thing bout your internship/stay in Canada?

The worst thing for me was having to share my living space with other people. Sometimes, I come home from a long day at work and I’d just want to be alone…but I couldn’t!

Would you recommend INTERNeX international exchange?

Yes, definitely! In the beginning when I first arrived, INTERNeX really helped me out and put so much effort into helping me find an internship job and a place to stay. Also, there  are so many fun and awesome things I got to do through INTERNeX, such as their weekly pub nights where I got to meet a lot of people, and weekend activities!

Thank you so much Maike for sharing your experiences in Canada with us and for all the great memories during your stay here!
