What to do on the weekend?

Another week is about to end… So, what does that mean? Yes, correct: Week + end = weekend! 🎉 And this time it’s double the fun, because we have the Monday off as well. So, get yourself ready for three days of weekend.

Saturday:
If you crave some good live music, you should definitely pay a visit to North Vancouver. This Saturday, you will find live music at two different locations: In the Shipbuilders’ Square you can listen to “The So Tight Band” from 5pm to 10pm and in Cates Park you get the chance to tap your feet along to the music of “Asi Somos”, “The Acoustic Ghosts” and “Symentha”.

It won’t be too hot on Saturday, so you can also spend your time going for a 43548823282_5c37cc6a14_nbeautiful hike. Recommended hiking trails are in Deep Cove, Lynn Canyon Park, Lighthouse Park, or if you dare, the Grouse Grind. In case the $15 for the Grouse Mountain Gondola down scare you from hiking up there, I have good news for you: The BCMC trail allows you to hike down as well, but be aware that it’s a very steep slope, so it’s not the most advisable.

In the evening, you should not miss out on the Celebration of Light. The team from South Korea is hosting the firework show of the evening. 🎆🎇

Sunday:
If you’d rather dance, instead of just listening to music, you should come to Robson Square Salsa. As indicated in the name of the event, it’s at Robson Square. Come at 3pm and enjoy four hours of Salsa dancing. You don’t need to have any prior experience and you can also just come and watch. Don’t worry, it takes place every week. So if you enjoy it, come back the following week and build up on what you’ve learnt.

Monday:
Yes, this weekend we have one extra day. Time to just do whatever we want to. Good news for that day: The weather, which had a little setback the past days, will get better38041918_10156414332729647_7304010023389102080_nagain. So, just grab your friends and spend an easy day at the beach. Vancouver has a lot of beaches to offer, so even if you think you’ve seen them all, you might find a new one. The most popular ones are: Kitsilano Beach, Sunset Beach, English Bay, Second and Third Beach. But there is one in Deep Cove and at CRAB park as well. They’re small, but definitely worth a visit.

I hope you’ll enjoy the weekend and have an amazing time doing whatever you decide to do! 🙂

See you either on Saturday for the Rockies Trip or latest on Wednesday at the Beaver Bar!

How was your weekend?

Oh Canada! 🇨🇦🎶 Happy 151th Birthday and a huge thanks for the long weekend you gave us. It was great to have three days to relax, spend time with friends and enjoy the excitement about the True North. 👍🍁 So, what did I do?

I started my weekend off on Friday with our INTERNeX event. We watched the Baseball match Vancouver Canadians vs Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.  42466192184_aaaa776d29_nIt was the first Baseball match I ever watched and I have to say it took me some time to fully understand the specific rules. But after patient explanations by Billy and Samuel and observing the field, I was able to follow the game. In the end “our team” (the Vancouver Canadians) won. The three hours we spent at the stadium got us freezing and the majority was ready to head home and get some rest. The 50 minute-journey home turned into a nightmare ride of 1.5 hours, because the Skytrain seemed to be experiencing some operational/technical problems. But in the end I arrived safely and happily.

On Saturday I went shopping. It was time to get some supplies for Canada Day which was celebrated on Sunday. The afternoon I spent in Stanley Park and I tried my first Poutine! Absolutely delicious, but definitely not something I could eat on a daily basis. 😉 In the evening we celebrated Nadine’s birthday with a small group at the Bourbon which was a lot of fun. 🎉

And then it was already Sunday. It was the 151th anniversary of Canada and like each year there were celebration all over the country. Different options to celebrate this special day could be found all over Vancity. INTERNeX decided to join the biggest celebration, which was at Canada Place.
41373994940_708a55f554_nWe met at 4.30 pm and watched the life performance by Jojo Mason. I really enjoyed the songs and covers he performed. His attitude was just so positive! And as he sang the national anthem, everything somehow stopped. Nothing but his voice filled the air and you could hear the Vancouverites sing along with pride. It felt as if the world stood still. Just for a moment. I definitely got goosebumps.

After he finished his last song, we went to get some food from the food trucks. The group somehow split up and I settled down at the steps down at the Olympic cauldron with a small group of people and we were waiting for the fireworks. Unfortunately, it started raining and we had to move. It took us ages to find a coffee-house that was open and not totally packed. So, once we found one, we already had to leave again, to be on time for the fireworks. At 10.30pm the fireworks started and lasted for around 20 minutes. 41373970840_f54bca9152_nIt was really beautiful and shapes like smileys and hearts lit up the sky over Coal Harbour. After that, it was a real struggle getting home, because it felt like the entire population of Vancouver was at Canada Place and now tried to get home. The line for the Expo Line was several hundred metres long. But I succeeded and once I got on the train I got home quite quickly.

The Monday was a day to relax. I just stayed home, watched the soccer games and Netflix. Well, it was a busy weekend, so the free Monday was well-deserved. 😊

I hope you enjoyed the past three days and enjoy the short work week. See you all tomorrow for the PuB NiGHT at Dublin Calling Rooftop.

What to do on the weekend

What to do on the weekend? That’s the question you ask yourself on Fridays, right before the weekend starts! This weekend is a special one, since most of you will be off on Monday due to British Columbia day. We lined up a few activities and events for you to give you inspiration for this weekend.

14652023768_55187ec8f0_oThis weekend is Pride weekend, so there is a lot to do on Davie Street (between Burrard & Jervis). There is already a party going on tonight from 6pm to 12am. There are multiple stages, food vendors and a silent disco! Sunday is the day of the big parade and the festival on Sunset beach. There are over 130 parade entries with a lot of amazing floats and fun colors. The parade will start on Robson, turn down Denman, and turns onto Beach Avenue. Internex is going to celebrate Pride on Sunday, and we will meet in front of the Blue Ruby Jewellery at 11.45 am.

On Saturday and Sunday, the 41st Annual Powell Street Festival will be held. This festival celebrates the Japanese Canadian art and culture. You can enjoy live music, Japanese food, sumo wrestling and different kinds of art and theatre. The best part of this festival is that it’s free! To check out the entire events, places you need to go to and timetables, visit their website.

Saturday will be the last day of Honda Celebration of Light. It is up to Canada this time and we are expecting an amazing firework show since it’s Canada’s 150th birthday. Since it is the last day of the big event, a lot is going on in English Bay. You can enjoy an aerobatic airshow filled with noise, smoke, skills and suspense at 7.45pm. After that you have to be a bit patient till the fireworks start at 10pm. To have a good spot on the beach, make sure you will be there a few hours prior to the show, since they are closing of the streets behind it.

For those who are off on Monday, take some time to relax after this busy weekend! For the ones that do need to go to work again, keep up the good work and get most out of your weekend! I hope to see you all at the parade on Sunday.
