PuB NiGHT Review: Malone’s

If you are reading this, you are probably aware of INTERNeX’ weekly PuB NiGHTs. Every Wednesday, we visit another pub and the day after, we write a blog post about the night. So, that’s what brought me here today.

43372911311_68b7059928_nYesterday, it was time to reunite at a pub we had’t visited in months: Malone’s. As always, we walked into the pub and told the waiter we had a reservation for INTERNeX. And that’s where the first thing went wrong…: We arrived at our tables and as always, there was a ‘reserved’ sign. However, instead of ‘INTERNeX,’ it said ‘Increnex’. I mean… potayto, potahto. Well, not really. But oh well, we forgive and forget. We sat down, looked at the menu and ordered our first drinks. Personally, I like to start off a PuB NiGHT with a Baileys Coffee, before I order the drink I’d like to call I-do-not-really-like-you-but-you-are-the-cheapest-drink-on-the-menu: beer.

After some time went by, more and more of you came to join us on this lovely, sunny evening. Every time someone arrived, and after a casual “Hi! How are you doing?”, we – gently – held a Rocky Mountains flyer in front of the person’s face. Why? Well, this is the destination of the monthly weekend trip in August and we do not want any of you to miss out on this amazing adventure! Since the trip is happening in a little more than three weeks, it was one of the main topics last night. Alongside, of course, this month’s trip which took place last week: Vargas Island. I had to miss out on this one, which is why I loved hearing all the fun(ny) stories you all told me. Especially the one about Stefan’s mat going missing while Samuel was living a luxurious life.

When we finished talking about trips, shopping and work, it was time for some action. Let’s play: Cheat! Yes, you read that correctly. ‘Cheat’ is a card game, the aim of which is to get rid of your cards. In order to do so, you have the option to lie about the cards you’re playing. However, if someone thinks you are lying and they are correct, you have to pick up the entire pile of cards. If you spoke the truth, they get the pile. As you might guess, it was a fun game that included lots of laughter. Considering we stayed at the pub until midnight, when it closed, ‘fun and lots of laughter’ described the night itself.

I hope you all enjoyed it as well. I hope to see you all this Sunday for our Grouse Grind hike!

How was your weekend?

It’s Monday. Not only does it mean I have to work again, but it also means I get to tell you about my weekend. As forecasted, the sun rewarded us with her presence. But let me start with Friday.

I came home from work quite late in the evening, because I was searching for a special cream in all drug stores I could find in downtown. In the end I ended up buying it from the Real Canadian Superstore – still the best when it comes to low prices. After this exhausting shopping trip I spent an easy evening at home. 😉

42886494851_d931fb1979_nOn Saturday, a hike in Lynn Canyon Park was on the schedule. We met at 12.15pm at the Waterfront station and made our way to the park. We were very lucky with the weather and fortunately it was not too crowded. We enjoyed the nature and the break from the noise in the city. The picnic we had was down at the riverside where Euler led us. It was a little tricky to climb down to the riverside, but it was totally worth it. Surrounded by the trees and listening to the gurgling water, we were chatting and eating the snacks we brought. Afterwards, we went on to Rice Lake. The view was marvellous. Then, we had a walk around the lake. After three hours of nature to its fullest, we had ice cream and milkshakes at the “End of the Line General Store” in Lynn Valley. It was amazing and so tasty! If you happen to be there, try it! We were back in downtown at around 6pm. I went home and finished the day with a nice Skype conversation with my brother, but had to go to bed early because it was game day on Sunday.

As I already mentioned in the blogpost on Friday, the FIFA World Cup is happening right now. And since it takes place in Russia, the game schedule is pretty insane over here. I got up at 6.30am to make it to the Pint on time (doors opened at 7.45am). We arrived, just to find a huge queue of people outside the pub. I guess 95% of them were Mexicans. We attempted to find another pub, but since that wasn’t successful we came back and found a nice spot downstairs. Just 30 minutes after the kick-off, a waitress asked us to leave because we had two minors among us. Desperately searching for another pub, we missed the goal from the Mexicans *sigh*. We settled down in Malone’s and watched the second half of the match. Unfortunately, to our greatest despair, we had to witness the “defeat” of the German team. I just hope it will get better in the upcoming games. GO GERMANY!

After that game we stayed to watch Switzerland – Brazil. It’s just crazy how enthusiastic and euphoric Mexicans as well as Brazilians get when it comes to soccer. When the second match was over we all made our way home. I finished the day with walking around the Central Park in Burnaby and having a nice chat with my flatmate.

I hope you all had a good weekend and enjoyed the weather. Let’s see each other at the upcoming PuB NiGHT at The Lamplighter!

PuB NiGHT Review: Malone’s

It’s Thursday afternoon, I am sitting in the office, staring at my laptop and I am feeling tired. Tired on a Thursday afternoon? How is this even possible? Well, it can only be one thing: Last night was pub night.

We met at Malone’s Social Lounge and Tap House this time. At 8pm, we sat down at the table in this cozy and big pub. We looked at the food and beer menu, WOW – there are 38 taps you can choose from. And so, we ordered pizzas, chicken tenders and the special beer on Wednesday nights, the P49 Craft lager for $3.90– who can say no to such an offer?

Around 11:30pm, when the Malone’s was taking orders for the last round, we decided to switch locations. So, some of us went to the Bourbon. We entered the bar and… there were only 5 other people in the pub. Okay, so it was not busy at all, but this fact didn’t stop us from dancing, singing along to well known songs and playing pool.

I hope you all enjoyed it too and I see many of you tomorrow at 7am for our trip to the Rocky Mountains!

PuB NiGHT Review: Malone’s

2017-11-22 20.56.54

There we are, in the back of Malone’s, sitting at a long table with everybody. And even more people kept coming. Great to see so many people are showing up at the pub nights. After all the hungry people ate their burgers and pizza, we enjoyed the nice cocktails or one of the many special beers. Of course we ended up in the Metropole for some karaoke.

Malone’s is a big pub, but somehow always has a cozy feeling. With 38 different taps there is a beer for everyone. For the people who don’t like craft beers, Malone’s offers also a lot of cocktails. Everyday they have a special on the beer/cocktail of the day.

Hope you all had as fun as much I did and hope to see you all Saturday morning for our trip to Seattle!

Review: PuB NiGHT at Malone’s

Yesterday’s PuB NiGHT was great again! We were with such a big group, thank you all so much for coming!

Malone’s is a combination of a social lounge and a taphouse, where you can eat, drink and play pool. On Wednesdays you get a discount on wine and whiskeys. The food is also really good!

18813338_10155348718102103_844142440062610732_n.jpgWe first had two tables, but after a while so many showed that we also took the other table next to us. It was really great to talk with you guys about the camping trip and for some their USA trip. It is always nice to hear so many great stories about your time here in Vancouver and Canada. As it was one of my last PuB NiGHTs I got kind of sad that I have to say ‘see you later’ to all of you so soon, I love our PuB NiGHTs and events together!

I hope to see all of you again tomorrow at the Richmond Night Market!

Review: PuB NiGHT at Malone’s

Yesterday it was time for my very first PuB NiGHT and Tess’ as well. This week’s PuB NiGHT was at Malone’s and a lot of you guys turned up which was great! Thank you all for coming! 🙂

Malone’s is a combination of a social lounge and a taphouse, where you can eat, drink and play pool. On Wednesdays you get a discount on wine and whiskeys, but be careful, because it’s not on all the wines they serve. The food is really good!  But if you are short on the money, you might want to eat before going there!16196245_1611135515568560_1655226480_o

We started off the evening with not that many people, but slowly more came and we ended up with more than 20 people at our table! Which was amazing! I already met some of you last Saturday at the Bourbon, so it was nice seeing all of you again. Beside Tess and I there were a lot of other new people to meet, so we spend the entire evening getting to know each other, which was a lot of fun.

I hope to see all of you again this weekend or on our next PuB NiGHT!!

Cypress Skiing Day

Saturday was an amazing day! The weather was perfect to go skiing or snowboarding. Thank you all for joining us!

Cypress Mountain is one of the mountains near Vancouver. It has 53 runs and many of them are accessible at night too. In 2010 it hosted the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding events for the Winter Olympics.

We met on the right side of the ticket windows, some people came by car and some took IMG_6018.jpgthe shuttle bus up the mountain. After renting some skis and buying our tickets we took the first lift around 10:30 AM in the morning. The sun was shining the whole day, at one point we weren’t even wearing our scarfs because it was so warm. Some tried the jumps on the slopes, some succeeded in it and some fell. And after a few hours of skiing we had lunch with some live music, but quickly went back to our skies again to make most of our day. It became a lot busier on the runs and after a few hours we decided to have a little break again and do some night skiing when it was less busy. We had an amazing dinner and amazing coffees with baileys in the Crazy Raven Bar. In the evening we took a few more runs before going back home. The view in the evening was beautiful; you could see all the lights from Vancouver and even Vancouver Island. After 9 hours of skiing we decided to go back home. Some of us even went to the Bourbon after that for some more drinks and meet the other part of the INTERNeX Family.

Thank you all for an amazing day! I hope you had as much fun as I did and I will see you at the coming PuB NiGHT at Malones!
