INTERNeX Canada: Review of 2012 – April, May, June!

In the last review post, we talked about what went on the first three months of the year, let’s continue with April to June!

April 2012

We kick started off April with a huge party at the Staffhouse for no reason then, why not? People danced until the sun came out and I think it’s because of the awesome fog machine and strobe light!

We welcome our new PR intern, Kristina, who was born and raised right here in Vancouver, British Columbia. She loves to travel and has studied abroad in Melbourne, Australia!  She celebrated Easter weekend with running, watching hockey and spending time with her family.

Our trip to the Rockies was just unbelievable. All the places we visited, Lake Louise, Johnston Canyon, going up the Banff Gondola and even sunbathing on the Columbia Icefields, were simply magical. All the parties, the amazing people we met, and our Backstreet Boys Flash Mob made the trip even that much better! To relive the whole experience, we had a huge Rockies After Party @ The Blarney Stone where over 100 people came!

Going with the trend of special pub nights, we hosted an INTERNeX Trivia Quiz Pub night! I mean, who doesn’t love a little bit of trivia and winning prizes?

After 8 months abroad in Canada, Hannes, one of the PR interns, has to return home to his university studies. But, saying goodbye to one German means welcoming two more, Xenia and Maria, to the PR team!

We finished off April with the INTERNeX Amazing Race where we had 9 teams race all around the city completing 9 tasks. It was a crazy and intense race that took over 2 hours!

May 2012

We started off the month with another big party! It was time for our monthly Pub and Club Night where we went for pre-drinks at the good ole Cambie and then headed off to Post Modern Dance Bar to get some dancing on!

With the fantastic weather going on, we decided to go racing at go-karting! It was fun to drive with limited rules and see who’s the fastest! We further tested our driving skills with a Zipcar on the streets of Vancouver! It’s such a fuel efficient car and renting a car can be a great way to see places in Vancouver that is inaccessible by public transit.

We welcome our new intern, Katie, who is from Iowa, a state in the United States. She is about to graduate from Iowa State and is interested in learning more about public relations and the city of Vancouver!

Being in Canada, of course we have to try our hands at camping! We went to Vargas Island which is near Tofino and did some hardcore hiking, campfire making and sleeping in tents. Pretty adventurous, I would say!

Sadly, it was time to say goodbye to Maria and Kristina. While they were both here for such a short time, their personality made INTERNeX that much more fun!

INTERNeX at NAFSA’s 2012 Conference (National Association of Foreign Student Advisers)! Our president, Tim, represented INTERNeX at this annual conference that strives to better student’s real world and international experience. INTERNeX was part of the 8,000 people from over 120 countries that attended the workshops and networking events in Houston, Texas!

June 2012

It’s June which means its summer and this means going to the Richmond Night Market! Opened annually only in the summer, you can buy cute accessories and delicious street food from hundreds of vendors.

This month, we also said goodbye to Rick and Janus, our IT interns at INTERNeX, by having a pub night at Cinema Public House. Watch their expose to learn about their experience doing an internship here and how they feel about moving to Canada from the Netherlands!

We successfully tackled the legendary Grouse Grind. As we learnt, it was a good workout and not lying to you, but we saw wolves and grizzly bears along the way.

The last weekend in June was spent in Whistler with two days filled with hiking, lakes, suspension bridge, bike rides, ziplining and the ultimate bungee jumping! It was simply beautiful, check out the photo of the week!

Stay tuned for our next review about July to September!

Cheers,

Queenie

INTERNeX Explorer – NAFSA

Have any of you ever been to the United States? How about Texas? As we said before, NAFSA is going on this week. INTERNeX’s president, Timothy Wells is in Houston, Texas taking part in this event.

NAFSA is an exciting learning and teaching opportunity for companies and schools all over the world. This association is geared towards people and organizations who are looking to improve their international programs. This may be within a school or within a company. The annual conference allows for people from all over to meet and share their ideas. The idea behind NAFSA is to strengthen ties between companies and schools so that they can better connect.

The annual conference is perhaps the most exciting part of NAFSA. This event includes things like workshops and unlimited networking opportunities. NAFSA is a great way to build relationships that will further unlimited educational opportunities.

“INTERNeX Canada” How was your weekend?

Good afternoon everyone!

How was your weekend?

There were a few events taking place this past weekend.

NAFSA:

One of these events was NAFSA. NAFSA is the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers. The event this year is taking place in Houston, Texas. NAFSA was founded with the intent to furthering professional skill sets of students and aiding with the development of internships. INTERNeX’s president Timothy Wells is in attendance at the annual conference this year. He left this weekend and he will be staying through the duration of the week. Hopefully with this trip he will be able to teach people about how our program works. Additionally, we hope that he will be able to bring back new, innovative information that we can use to further our program.

INTERNeX Class of 2011

Last Year’s Conference:

Last year we were able to host a large reception for NAFSA because the event took place here in Vancouver! This event was called the International Networking Event. The Blarney Stone helped us by providing a location for the event. This event gave our candidates a great chance to network and meet new people.

Bike Tour around Stanley Park

We also had a few people go with Xenia on a bike tour around Stanley Park. The people who were in attendance got to experience the beautiful views around the bike path. It was a wonderful, sunny Sunday afternoon for the bike ride. We have to take advantage of the days where it doesn’t rain in Vancouver!

We hope you had a wonderful weekend! Did any of you do anything exciting?

Cheers,

Katie
