New `Kids` on the Blog

I know it has been kind of quiet last week – but this week we’re back with “double-power”!
Today I’m happy to introduce you to our two amazing newbies arrived in Vancouver in the last few days. We’re glad Ina and Dennis found their way from Germany to beautiful Canada.
So let’s start with Ina. Right at the beginning of our interview we found out that we’re from the same small town close to Stuttgart in Germany – really cool! But for now a few interesting facts about her ๐Ÿ™‚

She already finished her apprenticeship and worked for a few months in her hometown; but there’s more to it. Since one apprenticeship wasn’t enough for her she already finished two – one in the commercial department and another one as a media designer. Right now she’s looking for her dream job in the media design industry. During her 5 weeks long stay in Canada she aims to improve her professional experience with a practicum in the field of marketing /design right in Vancouver Downtown. She’s really into traveling but would love to combine getting to know a new country with useful experiences for her career as well. So she uses her time in Canada to learn a lot about the country and its people and also as a time-out before starting back into her professional life in Germany. Since she has never been to Canada before she’s really excited to see new places, meet new people, and experience everything Canada has to offer. Since Canada was one of the first countries on her bucket list opened the border, it wasn’t a difficult decision for her to choose this place for an experience abroad. Ina also really enjoys her time in the office because she’s able to achieve a lot of new tasks and as she said: “the tasks are very helpful for my career and a lot of fun”. In my opinion this is how a practicum should look like ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now let’s talk a bit about Dennis. He’s 28 years old and from Stuttgart as well. He came to Canada as a part of this cooperate study program. Since his studies include a combination of studying and working he seized the opportunity and asked his workplace in Germany if there is a possibility for him to do a stay abroad – and as you can see it worked out! In Vancouver he’s participating in our practicum program in a security system company. He’s staying for 6 weeks – seems like these guys want to be back home for Christmas with their families ๐Ÿ˜‰ Actually Dennis had planned to do his stay in Tokyo but something changed his mind and he chose Canadaโ€ฆ and as he said he doesn’t regret it.
During his last vacation in Mexico he made some great friends which are now staying in Vancouver as well. So these guys are able to meet and spend some time together again – pretty cool!! With this stay abroad he aims to get an insight into an international working environment especially in comparison to the German.

I really hope they both have an amazing time in Canada with us.

Enjoy your weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

– Tatjana

New `Kids` on the Blog

We’re happy to announce a new member of the INTERNeX family, who arrived this week. A really warm welcome goes to Samantha. I really had a great chat with her where she told me some facts about herself. Of course I’ll share them all with you guys ๐Ÿ™‚

Samantha is 22 years old and originally from a small village, only 90 inhabitants as she said, close to Frankfurt in Germany. I’m sure you’ve already heard of Frankfurt because of the huge international airport as well as the fact that it is an important financial centre. Just a side fact; now back to Samantha. After finishing her apprenticeship and subsequently her diploma (in Germany it’s called “Fachabitur”) she decided to become a full time traveller for the next months.
In my opinion that definitely sounds amazing. After spending a few weeks in Iceland she has now seized the opportunity to gain more experiences and grow beyond herself in Canada.

Samantha is participating in our volunteer program for 5 weeks and works in the same animal hospital as Sophie. You know? The one with the cute baby cats ๐Ÿ˜‰ Seems like this is the place to be ๐Ÿ™‚
And there’s more to it; her motto is definitely “great times ahead”. After her time in Canada she plans to travel to 7!!! more countries all around the globe.
But for now she’s really interested in spending time in the Canadian nature, get to know the Canadian way of life and experience Canadian culture herself every day.
Since right now she’s still a bit afraid of spending time alone in such an unknown city, which is understandable in any case, feel free to form a group and spend some time together. It’s so much fun getting to know new place or try unknown activities together. Such a new place can always create a strange feeling but as time goes by you’ll get used to it and in the end one don’t want to leave anymore. I can assure you from my own personal experience .

That’s it for now – I’m sure you’ll get the chance for another chat with Samantha at today’s pubnight at Malone’s Taphouse, 6pm ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great day:)

New kid on the blog – Tatjana Schmitt

Welcome back! I know it has been quite a while since you heard from us, but the reason for this is the same story for everyone in the world at the moment – COVID-19. But now the time has come. We are very happy to be able to give a sign of life to you guys.
Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

My name is Tatjana, 23 years old from Germany and I am the new PR- Coordinator at INTERNeX. I am studying Social Sciences at the Ruhr-University in Bochum. I already finished my bachelor’s degree except for the practicum as part of my studies. Sounds kind of confusing I know because normally you must do the practicum before being able to finish or writing the thesis. But as I mentioned before this pandemic mixed everything up.
Actually, my practicum was planned for 2020 but since I wasn’t able to fly to Canada because of the very strict border restrictions as well as the health requirements I had to postpone my stay. Although some may think it sounds a bit crazy to wait for a practicum abroad for over a year without knowing how the situation will turn out, but I had the feeling that it is worth it. And it was. Right now, I am finally able to start my practicum as the new PR- Coordinator with INTERNeX. Although I have to work remotely at the moment I am very much looking forward and am more than grateful to have the opportunity for this practicum and for all the new experiences and challenges I will face.
Four years ago my “relationship” with INTERNeX already started. I was in Vancouver volunteering at the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC. Because this opportunity was also organized by INTERNeX I already made great experiences with this company back then. I really enjoyed all the trips and kept the international experience I had back then in good memory. The Rocky Mountain trip was definitely the most beautiful and memorable thing I did and I am really glad I joinedโ€ฆand for sure I absolutely fell in love with this country and especially with Vancouver. For me from that first moment the decision was made – I had to go back to Vancouver and use the practicum as an opportunity to combine gaining work experience, improvement of my language skills and getting to know the Canadian culture and lifestyle better. But what is the best part for me about Vancouver?
I think this city is such a special place as there is this big city life right next to the ocean and the huge mountains around the Vancouver area. It is like all in one. Additionally, the people are very friendly and open- minded which makes living here an adventure of a lifetime.
Under normal circumstances as an PR-Coordinator my job would be to organize the activities, pub nights, trips and events and be the first point of contact for all the people staying with INTERNeX in Vancouver. And for sure joining the Pub nights. ๐Ÿ™‚ This means working in this beautiful city while exploring the Canadian nature. For me it sounds like a dream.

Even if I am not in Canada at the moment it will give me a lot of pleasure to see whatโ€™s going on in Vancouver and support INTERNeX with all the different tasks. And for sure I will try my best to give you a first impression of what to expect in Vancouver as soon as travel will be allowed again.
And from my own experience I can say the wait will be worth it. Canada is a beautiful place to be.

I am very much looking forward to the remaining time of my practicum. Letโ€™s make the best of this situation.

New ‘Kids’ on the Blog!

โ€œNew โ€˜kidsโ€™ on the blogโ€ is back! I hope you have some time because today I would like to introduce you to our 5 (!) newcomers this week. Welcome to our INTERNeX-family! ๐Ÿ™‚

Letโ€™s start with Franca. First of all, sheโ€™s staying on Vancouver Island. So itโ€™s even more exciting! IMG_0832

After graduating from High School she decided to see a little bit of the world. She has already travelled a lot in the last time and has been to London, Stonehenge and Scotland. Besides that she gained some work experience as a teaching assistant in Spain. This time it brought her to Canada for volunteering at a wildlife station. Reason for that is her interest in our beautiful countryโ€™s nature and she missed having animals around her at her previous job. I guess now it wonโ€™t be an issue anymore. ๐Ÿ™‚
Franca chose Canada because sheโ€™s not so attracted by the US (good for us!).
Since sheโ€™s staying on Vancouver Island she wants to discover that (maybe with a friend she knows, staying in Victoria), but she doesnโ€™t have any certain destinations on her travel bucket list, yet.

Next to our Homestay roomies, who are both part of our practicum program:

Our second newcomer is David. Heโ€™s 19 years old and from Germany. Before coming to Vancouver he has already been to Toronto for 9 days because he has family there.
Back home heโ€™s really into outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking which also made him choose Canada as a destination.
One thing on his bucket list, is going to Yukon, a territory in the northwest of Canada. And he will have plenty of time to do that, because he already planned 4 weeks of travelling in the end of his stay.

Now let me introduce you to William. Heโ€™s 20 years old and from Denmark, where heโ€™s living near Copenhagen.
William is really looking forward to get the experience to work here and furthermore to travel a lot, too.
Same as David he has some travel time after his practicum and Victoria Island is one place he already knows he wants to see, but heโ€™s spontaneous so letโ€™s see where his travels will lead him to.ย Another thing he already has in mind is doing a skiing trip in the next few months, since he knows a skiing instructor here in Canada – how practical!
His arrival is perfect timing because William is an Ice Hockey fan and he is excited to join our Hockey event at the end of March. Go Canucks! ๐Ÿ˜€

Our last two participants are work and travellers. These 2 boys came together from Germany and planned on working for a little bit in Vancouver and then buy a car for their 2 months travelling. Buying a car or van gives them the opportunity to start their road trip to Montreal from where theyโ€™re flying back home.

The boy on the left is Lukas. He just likes the idea of work and travel and trusted his gut feeling and decided on doing it in Canada. So far thereโ€™s a skiing trip on his travel bucket list for his time here in North America.

Last but not least, I would like to present you Oliver. Just like Lukas he trusted on his guts with his decision on going to Canada. But one thing he knew for sure was that he doesnโ€™t want to go to New Zealand or Asia like most of his friends did and as a conclusion he chose Canada since itโ€™s more rare.ย

I guess these two might plan a skiing trip together because Oliver wants to go skiing as well – maybe in the Rockies! ๐Ÿ˜€

I wish you guys a really great time here! I promise you itโ€™s gonna be unforgettable! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope to see you for Pub Night at the Yale tonight!

See ya! xx

Cheers,

– Alina

New โ€œKidโ€ and PR Coordinator on the Blog!

This week thereโ€™s one new โ€œkidโ€ joining the INTERNeX family and itโ€™s me, Alina. Iโ€™m going to be the new PR Coordinator for INTERNeX. Iโ€™m so happy to finally be here in Vancouver and already had a really warm welcome.ย

My studies brought me to Canada because we get the chance to do a practicum for 5 months. As Iโ€™m studying tourism and travel management, I thought it would be a great opportunity to complete it in a different country. In addition to that I was already able to gain amazing experiences abroad while working as an AuPair in New Zealand 3 years ago. IMG_0745

I chose Canada as a destination because Iโ€™ve never been to North America before and Iโ€™ve already heard and seen so much about it, so I wanted to convince myself of itโ€™s inherent natural beauty.

I canโ€™t wait to organize Pub Nights and all other exciting events and trips. As probably all of you, Iโ€™m really looking forward to discover Canadaโ€™s nature and Iโ€™m most excited for the Rocky Mountains. Another thing on my to-do list is watching a hockey match, since I have been playing field hockey back in Germany.

Iโ€™m pretty sure weโ€™re all having an unforgettable and amazing time here together and I canโ€™t wait to get to know you guys and see whatโ€™s on your travel bucket list.

So I hope to see you all for Pub Night at the Beaver on Wednesday!ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers,

– Alina
