New “Kid” on the Blog

Another week, another new candidate arrived:

Welcome Louise!!

Louise flew all the way into Vancouver last Saturday from Denmark. She is 21 years old and aspires to become a vet. Before diving deep into her studies, she decided to spend 6 months in Canada and gain some experience in domestic – but also wildlife rescue and rehabilitation with two of our stations in Surrey, as well as on beautiful Vancouver Island. It’s her greatest passion to work with animals and she couldn’t be more excited to start her volunteering experience with us.

For she has family located in Surrey, and is convinced that Canada is the place that she
fits in best apart from her home country, it was an easy choice for her to come here. Louise is interested in travelling around and experiencing the stunning nature that BC has to offer. Yet, she has no concrete plans yet. I am sure, however, you guys can team up with her to make some plans. 😉

Great to have you with us Louise, let the fun begin!!

Have a great week and hope to see y’all for Pub Night at the Old Spaghetti Factory tomorrow! ☺

Cheers!

– Felicitas

New ‘Kids’ on the Blog!

The New ‘Kids’ on the Blog!

Our favourite day of the week is finally back. And before celebrating tonight at the Yale Saloon, we gotta meet our newest additions.

newKids

We’ve got 4 fantastic newbies joining the INTERNeX family this week. Therefore lets not lose any space (and time) and start of right away with Arne.
Just like the other 3, Arne is here to take part in our practicum program. Besides getting as much practical experience as possible he’s also here to learn the language and get to know the Canadian atmosphere a bit better. And coming here was clearly not a head over heals decision, as he has been here 3 times already. With family living here in Vancouver, he already got quite a good insight, but now it was time to pack his bags for a bit longer and become part of this beautiful culture himself.

Moving on to Elena from Austria. For her, the most important thing was, to get as far away from home as possible, and all of a sudden, this place ‘Canada’ on a whole different continent was looking pretty convincing. Don’t worry Elena, I think we can all relate. Sometimes it’s simply the best to get a bit further away to actually challenge yourself and start the adventure of your lifetime. Elena likes to explore and spend a lot of time outside being active, therefore I’ll have to say: Welcome to Canada, you are going to LOVE it so much. Being active and outside has never been easier and more beautiful ;-).
Our next newbie here is Cornelia, she will be doing her practicum in Marketing and Event Management and is also here to improve her language skills. Cornelia has already spent a lot of time in the USA and is now ready to see this beautiful country everyone is talking about over there :P. I am joking, those were not her words .. just mine. You gotta love Canada :-D. No, for real, Cornelia wants to explore a different english speaking country and I am very glad she decided to come here to beautiful Canada :).

And the very last one of today’s New ‘Kids’, is Anna. She is already a big fan of North America in general, she is even planning on moving to either Canada or the USA for good. Therefore this is a very good chance to get an impression of what this could look like. Annas biggest hobby is travelling – what a coincidence – thats ours too Anna, welcome to the group ;-).

Last but not least I would like to talk about a more personal matter.

Tonight will be my last Pub-Night at INTERNeX and you guys have no idea how sad I am to actually say that out loud (type it out loud, just didn’t sound as meaningful ;-)).
Therefore I would be so happy to have you guys around at tonights Pub-Night at the Yale Saloon. I gotta thank each and everyone for making my time here so so special!
Let’s ride that (mechanical) bull one last time!
Oh and actually you don’t have to come there because of me, but ever since New Years Eve, William has been practising the Line Dance so so hard. Tonight is the night to finally show off his skills. So don’t miss out!

Love you all
(as you see, I am getting very emotional already)

New ‘Kids’ on the Blog

It’s finally time to meet our three new travellers joining the INTERNeX family this week!
Luckily you’ve got enough time to read all about our new girls, now that most of you are stuck at home anyways. Yes right, that is another funny story – Vancouver and snow? No Nadja, don’t even hope for it, it won’t happen anyways. Here we are, public transport being cancelled and downtown in chaos as if an apocalypse is about to happen.
So I got my day started with a little snow-hike to actually get to work.
Anyways, this is not about me ;).
Let’s take a look at the three newbies.
image1Starting of with Kris, she is a Canadian expert already. As she used to live here during her exchange year in high school. Very impressive and the living proof, that people are always coming back to our beloved Canada at some point. Kris found herself a second family during her last stay, which made the accommodation pretty easy this time! We are very glad, that you decided to also join the INTERNeX family! Welcome home!
The next new addition is Julia. Just as Kris, she came all the way from Germany to gain some precious work experiences over here. And a very interesting fact is, that she already stayed in Korea for quite a while. I hope, you are prepared to answer many questions about that, because personally I am very very interested to hear all about that. Besides getting to know the city life of Vancouver, Julia also has Seattle and Victoria on her bucket list. So if you have any kind travel advices or must sees, I am sure she will appreciate it!
Our last newbie of the week, is not from Germany for a change, but from Austria! Lovely Sophie over here, just finished high school and is taking her time off now to figure out what she wants. Great choice to come here Sophie, and what this will be a great and unique experience – I can promise you that. But be careful, Vancouver or Canada in general are very addictive :). As this is her first long-time stay abroad, lets make her feel like home already.

I am sure you guys are going to love these three lovely ladies!
And ladies, don’t worry, the INTERNeX family is always happy to welcome the new members <3.
Obviously I would love to see you guys at tonights Pub-Night at Steamworks at 7pm. But as the snow continues to fall (like crazy btw), please keep in mind that your safety is the priority here. Please consider that before  leaving the house tonight.
If there are an questions/problems whatever don’t hesitate to contact us!
I hope to see you soon.
Cheers,
— Nadja  xx

INTERNeX News – Black Friday!

ix-news-logo.pngThe most popular shopping day is just ahead of us – The one and only Black Friday!
And because we want you to be prepared for this, here are some information about the Black Friday itself and a few useful tips you might want to consider before getting yourself into this crazy shopping day!
Black Friday is always the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving, which happens to be the last Thursday in November. It is officially known as the official start of the Christmas season. And because of this, this day has always been very important for sales, even if it wasn’t referred to as ‘Black Friday’ in the first place.
In fact, the day goes all the way back to 24 September in 1869. Two U.S. financiers tried to be so smart and bought a significant amount of U.S. gold, obviously hoping for an overall price soaring, so that they’d be able to sell it again for huge profit. Well long story short, this plan didn’t work out as you might guess. Eventually the U.S. gold market crashed and their actions left the the Wall Street Barons bankrupt. From there the U.S. was set into a really bad financial crisis.
The name ‘Black Friday’ actually came from the way American shops recorded their accounting details, as they’d note profits in black and losses in red. Over this hard time most shops only got to write red number, only after the day of thanksgiving they finally ‘went into black’ again.
If you are currently getting ready to take part in this very crazy shopping experience, here are a few things you might want to consider.
When does it make sense to wait until black Friday itself and when should one of the current deals be taken. Obviously this is always a question of how lucky you’ll be on the day, but if it is a very specific product you are waiting for, in a specific colour or size, you may want to consider buying it before the time. I don’t want to disappoint you in this, but the chances are high that you aren’t the only person waiting for a deal on this product. If you are just waiting for the highest possible discount, you may want to wait until Black Friday.
Before you get yourself out there, getting lost in all the discount signs, you should do some research. Check out RedFlagDeals and RetailMeNot for some brilliant deals, coupons and special offers first. blackfriday.png
Even tho all of  these offers, just seem too good to be true, please don’t forget that we are living in a time of climate change and an absolute consumption overload. And you buying unnecessary stuff  like crazy, is a part of this very big game, even tho if it seems to be just you!
Just think about where these product are coming from, that they need to be produced, and packed and that there is a whole chain reaction after this. I don’t want to be the Party-Pooper in this, but I guess especially our generation has a very good understanding of this and should proof this in actions!
Not to doubt, this is the perfect time to make some great deals, but try not to loose your head over this.
And make sure you’ve got some money left since next PuB-Night isn’t too far away and you still want to be able to pay for your drinks right?
Till then, Happy Shopping you all!
Cheers,
— Nadja

INTERNeX News

As we already talked about the current strike situation here in Vancouver, the situation could get a bit worse next week. ix-news-logo.png
Just a little information, in case you haven’t read the previous post about it.
The operators are striking for better working conditions, as they are having very hard days at the moment. Schedules are very tight so that there aren’t any bathroom or lunch-breaks. As there was still no agreement achieved so far, job action will be taken from now.
There is a serious possibility that all buses including the SeaBus and Skytrain will go though a complete shutdown starting on Wednesday (27th November). Shutdown as in no public transport will be operated during this period of time!
For now, it seems like the shutdown will last for 3 days. But it might end up being shorter or longer depending on decisions that will be made in that period of time. It may also not happen at all.
Of course we will keep you up to date in this.
Make sure to find alternative ways to get to work and Pub-Night (;-)) for that period of time and keep your eyes and ears open for news.
Cheers,
–Nadja
