INTERNeX News – Remembrance Day

Travelling is not only about taking pretty pictures and meeting exciting new people, of course we all also want to learn something about the country and culture we stay in.

ix-news-logo_remb.png

Therefore Public Holidays are just the perfect opportunity to widen our horizon and learn about what people are actually celebrating or thinking of.

As you might know and surely must have noticed when walking through town, next Monday is Remembrance Day. This is not only a topic we should gather some information about, because we are currently staying in Canada, but also because this is a topic each and everyone should keep in mind and think about from time to time. Therefore here some helpful information about what this day is all about.

Starting from scratch, the Remembrance day, or earlier known as the Armistice Day marks the end of hostilities during First World war. It is a day remembering all the fallen soldiers, not the victory or any political and/or military events.
Nowadays it’s not only supposed to remind on First World War, but all Wars!
Because it is and always will be very important to remember all the horror and grief wars drag along. Nobody should ever forget, how hard times like these effected each and everyones life. Even though the first world is long gone, we should think about it from time to time and never get lazy speaking about it.

Most ceremonies in Canada include certain things, like two minutes of silence, the playing of the ‘Last Post’, the recitation of ‘In Flanders Fields’, and the wearing of Poppies. ‘In Flanders Fields’ is a poem written by a Canadian soldier and became one of the most famous symbols of First World War. The poem embodies the sadness, the loss of loved ones, the worries, but also the faith that needs to be kept up. Within the poem John McCrae mentioned the Poppies, which were found on most of the western front. Throughout the bombed and destroyed landscape the poppies were the only thing giving colour to this tragic scenery. Later on the blood-red poppies overgrew many mass graves and therefore they became more and more symbolic for the fallen soldiers and tragedy of First World War.

Almost in every part of Vancouver you will find different ceremonies, concerning this very important day. In downtown you’ll get one at the Cenotaph Victory Square (located on the corner of West Hastings Street and Cambie), starting about 9:45 am. Afterwards there will be a big parade.
Another big ceremony will take place in Stanley Park at the Japanese Canadian War Memorial, starting at 10:40 am.

As this is a public holiday, I hope you’ll have a great day off and spent your free-time wisely, thinking about this very serious and important topic.

Cheers,

INTERNeX New’s

IX-News-Logo.pngSince it is affecting all of us, public transport is definitely a topic worth talking about. As you might have heard and experienced in the past, the situation is not absolutely perfect at the moment. Many of the operators are not happy about the conditions they are currently working under.

Long story short:
Mostly, time schedule are very tight and won’t leave space for breaks during busy days like these. So if there isn’t any agreement with the Coast Mountain Bus Company by tonight, there will be a strike starting tomorrow morning, obviously affecting everybody using public transport. Certainly not everything will stop driving by then, but it’s most likely to experience delays as well as cancellations. Therefore, please stay updated and find potential alternatives, to get wherever you need to go, in time!

Cheers,

INTERNeX Explorer Ep2 – 2017 Behind the scenes

Maybe you already noticed that the second episode of INTERNeX Explorer has been online since Wednesday. Every first day of the month we publish a video in which we inform you about Vancouver and all the activities we organize for you. Besides that, there is also a good laugh in the video. However, it is not only funny for you guys, we certainly have quite some fun making these videos.

Everybody in the PR-team has their own projects to work on at INTERNeX and developing the INTERNeX Explorer is one of my projects. I chose this one because I like making and editing videos. Besides that, my head is always full of ideas and I want to learn more about developing my ideas into products. So I am learning more about filming, video editing, photoshop and illustrator at the moment, which I really like!

I had to start of with giving mstoryboardy ideas for the next video a “coat”. This meant I had to write scripts and draw some storyboards, which was a pain in the ass for sure, since you have to draw the entire scene for maybe 1 second of film. After dividing the parts and getting some props, it was time to start filming. First some small green screen scenes, which were quite easy and after that Janel and I had a little trip outside the office in Chinatown. With Janel as camerawoman and Tess who strolled the streets, a new dream team was born. Besides some shaky scenes and weird
faces into the camera, we were really proud of the results!

And after shooting comes… editing! Editing definitely takes a lot of time and work. I had lots of fun editing the Kelowna part, but Simon is our real editor and did the rest of the video while I was sitting next to him agreeing or disagreeing. After a lot of cuts, precision work, and some small changes from episode 1, episode 2 was done!

If you haven’t already seen it, check out our second episode of the INTERNeX Explorer:

I hope you like to watch the videos we make and I hope I will learn more every month and become a real pro at it! ☺

INTERNeX Explorer Ep1 – 2017 Behind the scenes

This week we posted our first episode of the INTERNeX Explorer. We are planning to publish an episode every month. Our new show will include some cool spots in and around Vancouver, upcoming trips and events as well as a review of the previous month. We hope to inform and entertain you with our little show we call the INTERNeX Explorer.

It was lots of fun making the first episode. We started with writing our own scripts. The hardest part was coming up with some interesting fun facts about ourselves. However, with some help from each other, we all figured out what to write. ix-explorer_ep1-2017Afterwards the filming finally started. As it was the first time we were being filmed, we were all a bit nervous, which made us forget our text sometimes. Luckily, we had our scripts near by and quite some time available to shoot the video. Janel had the chance to practice her news reading skills and also had to point to pictures which were not here and added in post. As she never did that before, it was a bit awkward.

The most difficult part was the part of the future events. First Danielle kept touching the green screen, as she wanted to put her jacket on. We therefore decided it would be easier if she was already wearing the jacket. But of course that meant she was getting hot wearing the jacket the entire time while filming. It was sometimes hard to stop laughing when we were shooting the part of future events. Simon had to sit in a very uncomfortable position on his knees outside the view of the camera to give Danielle the ski sticks.

After the shooting was done Simon and Tess had to do the editing. The postproduction of the video seemed to be the hardest part of our whole process. A lot of footage had to be viewed and in the end some music had to be found. The final cut went to some reviews and the entire team had to be alright with it. Simon said we can be proud of our first video and also that we will improve with every episode. We hope you agree with him and look forward to produce the next episode with him.

If you haven’t already, check out our first episode of the INTERNeX Explorer:

I hope you will enjoy the video and I am looking forward to hearing your comments!
