INTERNeX Canada: Tim Hortons VS Starbucks?

I was just casually looking through the Vancouver Sun today, as one does, and I read something really interesting. Apparently, there are more Starbucks in Vancouver than Tim Hortons! Could this be a battle between Starbucks and Timmy’s (short name for Tim Hortons)?! Dun Dun Dun!  The Vancouver Sun reported that there are more Starbucks in Metro Vancouver! More specifically in Richmond, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Delta and Port Moody! But places like Surrey, Langley and Abbotsford have more Tim Hortons!

I find this very interesting, because Tim Hortons is Canada’s number one place for Coffee and Donuts! It symbolizes Hockey as well as Canadian pride! Even the commercials for Tim Hortons really focuses on creating a brand name that represents Canadians. And let’s not forget the fact that Timmy’s is genuinely Canadian, being named after a Canadian hockey player! Starbucks on the other hand is American. Yet, according to the Vancouver Sun, there are more Starbucks than Tim Hortons, which then might suggest that the majority of Vancouverites prefer Starbucks?

…Okay I’m not going to lie, I actually prefer Starbucks drinks over Tim Hortons. There, I said it.

Whose side are you on -Starbucks or Tim Hortons? Or Neither? Comment Below and tell us! And if you want to read more up on this coffee chain battle, click here!

Hope everyone is having a superfragilisticexpialidocious weekend 😉

Cheers,

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: News/Fun facts

The other morning when I arrived at the office was so funny when my workmate Mayuco asked me: have you heard about the fresco restauration in a church of Spain?

What? No I haven´t heard anything! That´s true that when I am living abroad I used to disconnect of everything!

Here is the thing:  An old woman wanted to help to restore the old and high value fresco of the church of her village but she was just an amateur painter, so the poor woman tried but the result was kind of surprising. Jesus Christ doesn´t look like Jesus Christ anymore… he looks like a monkey, a grizzly bear or some stranger super funny animal but not a religious figure, not at all!

But a naive mistake turned into an international boom!  Vancouver is so far away for Spain and it appears here  in the newspapers and in the newscast so I can´t  imagine the revolution in Spain.

Now there is a lot of merchandising around this topic: t-shirts, cup, hats and with a lot of  differnt versions!

I am pretty sure that the problem was that the woman was trying to restore the fresco but looking the wrong picture!

She was so sad for the final result! It wasn´t her intention! But what she has done it´s the best advertising ever for the tourism of her village! So yes probably the village has lost an old fresco but they will win a lot of new visitors just to see the new attraction!

What about you? Do you know some funnies errors that make some place famous for that?

Share with us! We would love to hear that kind of stories!

Have a nice day!

Cheers

Irene

Is Canada on your bucket list?

As I was reading through the paper this morning, pictures of the annual “Running of the Bulls” festival in Spain filled the pages. As I flipped through the photographs, I couldn’t help but think that although some of people looked terrified (who wouldn’t with a 2,800 pound bull chasing them) – they had crossed something off of their bucket list, and it got me thinking.

What’s on my bucket list? What things do I want to conquer with every ounce of my being before my time here is over? This year alone has brought so many firsts for me and I really look forward to what the next six months will bring. If you’re reading this, that means you’re on the other side of the computer screen. You may already be in Canada or maybe you’re still in your home country. Either way, take the time to write down 5 adventurous things you want to do in your life, or how about this year!

If you’re not in Canada, then is visiting here on your bucket list? Do you want to see this beautiful country and experience the sight of mountains and city in the same glance? You can do it if you set your mind to it, and you can also come here on an internship, work placement or volunteer opportunity through any of INTERNeX’s programs.

What’s on my bucket list? (Not in any order)

Swim with sharks

Try Fencing

Play a round of golf in Scotland

Drink a round of beers in Scotland

Bungee jump

Solve a rubix cube

Skydive

Visit Africa

Get my motorcycle license

and Live in New Zealand.

Those are just a few things on my list of things to accomplish in my lifetime, and this list is always growing. In my opinion, it should never stop, because you are never done exploring and trying new things! So, start writing YOUR bucket list!

More about the Running of the Bulls Festival:

Every morning of the festival at 8 a.m., six bulls are guided through the narrow, medieval streets of Pamplona by an equal number of large steers — each wearing a clanking cowbell — whose task is to keep the pack tight and galloping at an even pace.

The run covers 930-yards (850-meters) from a holding pen on the edge of town to the central bull ring where the bulls will face matadors and almost certain death in the afternoon.

The final bull, a massive red-colored beast called Gavioto from the renowned Jandilla ranch, was coaxed into a pen at the bullring, the final destination. In the ring, Gavioto tossed a man in the air, partially removing his trousers with the tip of his right horn.
