How was the weekend?

What is better than two days of weekend? Right, three days of weekend! We definitely enjoyed the long weekend with lots of fun activities.

Friday evening some of us came together to start the weekend properly. We played some games and had some really good conversations. What did you do on Friday?

On Saturday there was the Holi festival🎉. Sadly none of us got a ticket for it but we still went to the Town Centre Park in Coquitlam. Have you ever been there? It’s definitely worth going, the park is beautiful! On that day there were three different food trucks. Some of us tried the food and had some drinks. Luckily we were able to see the people throwing colours in the air and the coordinators taught traditional Indian dance performances. After we enjoyed the beautiful weather and the festival we all became hungry and decided to grab some burgers. We found a good spot not far away from the park and stilled our hunger. We all learned something new as we wanted to pay cash: you can just leave the money on the table, instead of giving it to the waiter like in Germany. Fortunately the waiter clarified the misunderstanding.😉

After the actual weekend event with the sold out tickets for holi festival didn’t go as planned. We decided to do another weekend event on Sunday. We went to the largest night market in North America, the Richmond Night Market. The weather switched the whole day from sunny to cloudy. It seemed very dark but luckily there was no rain. After we entered the market we were surprised by the variety of the booths and the mass of people there. First we checked everything out to have an overview of the offered food🍱. As you might all know this was not an easy decision! Everybody grabbed their food and met at our table to eat together. After a little dessert we decided to go through the rest of the market and visited the gaming booths. At about 10pm we went to the train station together and went home. To sum that up we can definitely recommend visiting the Richmond Night Market with its interesting food and entertainment options

On our third day of the weekend some of us visited the Vancouver Lookout. After we bought the tickets we took the elevator all the way up. The elevator there is a special one because the front door consists of glass, so you can enjoy the view of the city the whole way up – not really suitable for people with fear of heights. The view on the top was amazing and the weather was great. After we walked around we headed back down. In our opinion Vancouver Lookout is also worth visiting, so go check it out when you have a chance. 🙂

What to do on the weekend?

This weekend INTERNeX is going on a bike ride along the sea wall around Stanley Park. Definitely a must do while you are here. The route offers beautiful views, close to the ocean and the parks forest, while technically being in the city. It’s a unique park with lots of different areas to explore. We could of course walk around as well, but that would take a long time and it’s not quite as fun as biking. Don’t worry you don’t need to have your own bike, we can just rent them right at Stanley Park. 🙂

Another great activity for weekends is hiking. Vancouver is perfect for a day in the nature since it’s so close and has so much to offer. There’s numerous trails around that you can choose from. I recommend getting the AllTrails app. It shows you maps, routes, difficulties of the trails, time, etc. There’s also comments and tips from others that have been hiking those trails which can be really useful. Make sure to check out our ‘Hiking Survival Guide’ as well before you head out to your adventure.

If you like Music Festivals at the beach this one’s for you. The Vancouver Folk Music Festival takes place at Jericho Beach this weekend. It’s a unique, community-based celebration of contemporary and traditional folk and roots music. There’ll be artists from Korea, Chile, Mexico, Taiwan, India, Finland, the USA, and Canada. A day pass is $68.60.

In case you want a cultural program, but are short on money, you can get a free guided tour through one of the most beautiful and historic concert halls in North America. Vancouver Civic Theatres offers a 90 minute walking tour, led by the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame at the Orpheum theatre, which was built in 1927 and is now a National Heritage site. Fun Fact: Frank Sinatra got kicked out of the theatre once, for breaking one of the dressing room lights while practicing his golf swing.

Looking for something to do in the evening? Good news, the Richmond Night Market is still going on till October! It is the largest Night Market in North America and attracts over 1 million visitors each year. There’s lots of booths and unique food, sometimes live music on the stage and other fun activities. General Admission is only $6, so I’d say if you have the chance you should definitely go and check it out. These are their hours of operation: Friday: 7PM-12AM; Saturday: 6PM-12AM; Sunday: 7PM-11PM

What to do on the weekend?

The weekend is upon us and in case you don’t have any plans yet, here are some suggestions as to what you could do.

First off, the Raptors won the NBA finals yesterday. They are the first Canadian team to do so. To celebrate the historic event, how about you go out with some friends and have a few beers.

This evening you could also visit North Vancouver’s Shipyards Night Market, where you can find some of Vancouver’s best food vendors. There will be over a 100 vendors, so you have plenty to choose from. The market will be open from 5 pm to 10 pm, and there will be no admission fee. Check it out and enjoy some amazing food.

The INTERNeX gang is heading to Whistler on Saturday morning. On our way we will stop at some sights, and arrive in Whistler in the afternoon. We will stay overnight and won’t leave until Sunday afternoon. Thus leaving us enough time for some awesome activities such as zip lining, bungee jumping, hiking or taking a ride on the Peak2Peak gondola. For everybody who is joining, remember we are meeting on Saturday at 1114 Burnaby St at 8:30 am. It’s going to be an awesome trip.

On Saturday will be the Car Free Day in West End from 12 pm to 7 pm. You will be able to find community booths, food trucks, live entertainment and more. The event will be free and is being held on Denman Street between Robson and Davie Street. The same event will be happening on Sunday, but in bigger and in a different location. It will be on Main Street between Broadway and 30th. In general, I would advise to take cash to street fests as some booths and food trucks don’t take credit cards.

Just a little reminder, Sunday is Father’s day in Canada. So call your dad and tell him you love him and how important he is to you.

What to do on the weekend?

It’s Friday, meaning it’s the weekend. If you don’t have any plans yet, here are some ideas. I hope you’re hungry, because this weekend is a foodie’s dream.

North Vancouver’s Shipyards Night Market begins today, with some of Vancouver’s best food vendors. Just to give you an idea of the size, the free market has over 100 vendors, and you will also be able find 19 beer garden, as well as other entertainment. The market is open from 5pm to 10pm. In case you already have plans for tonight, don’t worry the market is open every Friday until 27 September. And now for all the Germans and German fans: The “Prost Haus”, a Bavarian themed beer hall, just opened on the rooftop of 900 Granville street. There, you will be able to find authentic German food like Pretzels, Bratwurst and, of course, Beer. So if you’re feeling a bit homesick, go check it out.

In case you’re in the mood for a bit more Mediterranean food, specifically Greek, I got you covered. This weekend is the 41st Vancouver Greek food festival. Not only will you find lots of food there, but also music, entertainment and history. So if you want to experience Greek culture, this is your chance. The festival is at 4500 Arbutus St from Friday to Sunday.

Tips for the weekend

The weather won’t be as good this weekend as it has been the last few days, nonetheless there are some nice markets that you can visit in V-Town (how I like to call Vancity).

There are two night markets in Richmond; the International Summer Night Market and the Richmond Night Market.

1. The International Summer Night Market is said to be “One of the Top 4 Night Markets in the World”. The International Summer Night Market is an annual tradition that has built its reputation as a truly diverse event and is recognized as a world class landmark attraction in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.

The admission fee for this market is free, as well as parking. Their operating hours are Friday and Saturday 6pm – 11pm and Sunday 6pm – 10pm.

Address: 12631 Vulcan Way, Richmond. From Bridgeport station free shuttle busses to the Market run every 15 minutes, all night.

 

2. The Richmond Night Market charges a $2,75 admission fee – their opening hours on Friday and Saturday are 7pm – 12am and Sunday 7pm – 11pm.

The address is 8351 River Road. The best mode of transportation for visiting The Richmond Night Market event is to take Canada Line and get off at the Bridgeport Station. It is highly and strongly encouraged and recommended you take the skytrain!

4. Besides night markets, there also is a lovely day market in Kitsilano. Every Sunday from 10am till 2pm.
