Picture of the week!

This week we have a funny picture from Adam. He lived in the staff house and told me that it was his turn now to have an awesome picture of the week on the INTERNeX blog’ . He really wanted to be the picture of the week because this week is his last week here in Canada and he wanted to show the other candidates how much fun he had here! He was  in Vancouver for the Work&Travel program and worked at a coffee company for 7 months. He describes his time here as AWESOME!
In the picture you can see him passionately eating from his pizza in a restaurant in Victoria. He was there with his friend Kevin! He choose this picture because it is typical Canadian with him wearing his Canada sweater.

This week it was Adam’s turn, but maybe next time your picture will be picture of the week!! Do you have a picture of a great experience here in Canada? Send it to pr@internexcanada.com with a small description or story!

Cheers,
Claudia

Is Canada on your bucket list?

As I was reading through the paper this morning, pictures of the annual “Running of the Bulls” festival in Spain filled the pages. As I flipped through the photographs, I couldn’t help but think that although some of people looked terrified (who wouldn’t with a 2,800 pound bull chasing them) – they had crossed something off of their bucket list, and it got me thinking.

What’s on my bucket list? What things do I want to conquer with every ounce of my being before my time here is over? This year alone has brought so many firsts for me and I really look forward to what the next six months will bring. If you’re reading this, that means you’re on the other side of the computer screen. You may already be in Canada or maybe you’re still in your home country. Either way, take the time to write down 5 adventurous things you want to do in your life, or how about this year!

If you’re not in Canada, then is visiting here on your bucket list? Do you want to see this beautiful country and experience the sight of mountains and city in the same glance? You can do it if you set your mind to it, and you can also come here on an internship, work placement or volunteer opportunity through any of INTERNeX’s programs.

What’s on my bucket list? (Not in any order)

Swim with sharks

Try Fencing

Play a round of golf in Scotland

Drink a round of beers in Scotland

Bungee jump

Solve a rubix cube

Skydive

Visit Africa

Get my motorcycle license

and Live in New Zealand.

Those are just a few things on my list of things to accomplish in my lifetime, and this list is always growing. In my opinion, it should never stop, because you are never done exploring and trying new things! So, start writing YOUR bucket list!

More about the Running of the Bulls Festival:

Every morning of the festival at 8 a.m., six bulls are guided through the narrow, medieval streets of Pamplona by an equal number of large steers — each wearing a clanking cowbell — whose task is to keep the pack tight and galloping at an even pace.

The run covers 930-yards (850-meters) from a holding pen on the edge of town to the central bull ring where the bulls will face matadors and almost certain death in the afternoon.

The final bull, a massive red-colored beast called Gavioto from the renowned Jandilla ranch, was coaxed into a pen at the bullring, the final destination. In the ring, Gavioto tossed a man in the air, partially removing his trousers with the tip of his right horn.

Star Wars: In Concert coming to Canada!

5 years after the final episode, Star Wars is back!! Fans of the Star Wars movies can enjoy the music during Star Wars: In Concert. The tour, which started in October 2009, is finally coming to Canada! The Canadian Tour will start tonight at the General Motors Place in Vancouver and will go to places such as Edmonton, Calgary and London(ONT)!

Star Wars: In Concert is a unique event that combines John William’s unforgettable music, performed by a live symphony orchestra and chorus, with specially edited footage for all six Star Wars Films.  Actor Anthony Daniels, for the Star Wars fans better know as C-3PO, will introduce each segment of the two-hour show, guiding you through the Star Wars story in a fresh an exciting way. John William, the creator of the Star Wars music, won the best-original- score at the 1978 Academy Awards. He was also nominated for the same award for The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983).
“ We’ve taken the key themes from the music and cut together all the images that fit with each theme, so you can really get a sense of how the music played into the images,” said George Lucas, creator of the Star Wars Saga. “
Besides the concert, you can also enjoy an exclusive exhibit of Star Wars costumes, props, artifacts, production artworks and specially created behing-the-scenes videos from the LucasFilm Archives. Many of these pieces are leaving Skywalker Ranch for the first time. The exhibit features many classic fan favorit artifacts, as well as several new, never before seen items, such as:

Candidate Exposé

Meet Gudrun, a young mind from Germany who is ready to conquer anything Canada throws her way. I first met Gudrun at the INTERNeX office a few weeks ago, and then again at INTERNeX PuB NiGHT! We chatted for awhile about her internship and how she was enjoying her time spent in Canada. She was so interesting to talk to, I thought I would ask her to share more about her experiences so far.

Why did you decide to come to Canada?
Canada was my destination of choice as I decided I would like to spend time in an English speaking country and Vancouver has a reputation for being innovative and very keen on sports. I think living and working overseas is an important learning/life experience and in today’s global society, it is getting more and more important to gain a more international perspective.

How did you find out about INTERNeX?
INTERNeX is in collaboration with my German organization, which arranged everything for me.

What program are you currently participating in?
I’m doing an unpaid internship!

Do you like program offered by INTERNeX?
Yes, I think they offer many different kinds of options, so anybody will find the right program.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy learning a lot about the structure and work processes within the company. It’s great to have the opportunity to work unsupervised and to display initiative.

What skills do you use at work?
I use my computer skills along with my verbal and written English language skills.

What would you tell others about Canada as a country?
You have to experience Canada yourself, but I would recommend Canada to anybody. It seems to be a country with lots of international influences and many opportunities, regarding sports, culture, nature, shopping and sightseeing… and the Canadians are all very friendly and open-minded.

Can you sum up your experience in 10 words or less?
Vancouver is awesome, I’ve enjoyed every minute so far!

What kind of activities have you done since living in Canada?
There is still so much to do, but I’ve been to Seattle already, I also enjoyed Stanley Park and the Aquarium, Granville Island, The Capilano Suspension Bridge and of course some pubs in Downtown.

What are your plans for the future?
After my internship I want to travel first before I’m going back to Germany. Afterwards I will either apply for a new job or doing my PhD. I haven’t decided yet.

Not sure which program is for you? Visit http://www.internexcanada.com for more information on how INTERNeX can make your trip to Canada happen!
