INTERNeX Canada: Culture Shock

You went to language school, you lived in Canada for a while, you tried to speak English only, and you are still not quite content with your English? Please read in this Culture Shock post how to sound like a real Canadian. There is no problem without a solution, eh?

Eh is a useful word that is the basis of all Canadian communications and will make you sound totally Canadian. It is used at the end of the sentence in order to give your opinion and receive agreement from the person you talk to, like “I hate rain, eh!” It can also be a statement of an unchangeable fact where agreement of the other person is not necessary: “It’s always raining in Vancouver, eh!” You can make your sentence sound like a command: “You come to my place tonight, eh!” You can use the little word at the end of your phrase as a sign for your wish to initiate further conversation. It can be used for anything like “right? Isn’t it?”

In case you started speaking your sentence already but in process decided that you actually wanted to ask a question, you can turn your whole sentence into a question by adding eh. Easy! “The weather is nice today, eh?” Of course you can add eh to a normal question “What does it mean, eh?” The same way you can insert it in any of your phrases like “Thanks, eh! / Sorry, eh!”

But you also can use EH on its own; here are some examples:
Eh! = OK
Eh? = sorry, what did you say?
Eh? = what do you think?
EEH!! = hellooo!
Eeeh! = oh yes, I understand
Eeehhh!! = wow!
Eh! = sure!
Eeh? = not sure…

Try it out and let us know how it works, eh!

Cheers,

Xenia

To all INTERNeX candidates…Your support is needed!

Hi everybody!

I hope you are all enjoying your time in Canada!

We are really impressed by your great input, such as the report about the last Canucks game that Florian sent to us (thanks, Florian!). It is a pleasure for us to be part of your experience in Canada and we are glad that you also want to share it with the rest of the world!

As you might remember, INTERNeX recently uploaded a video of the Snowtubing event on youtube. We received a lot of positive feedback and want to continue shooting short clips about INTERNeX events and more importantly your experiences.

The INTERNeX family of candidates is continuously growing. Therefore we want to provide potential candidates with your opinion on INTERNeX, the program you are on and your time in Canada. The idea is basically to film testimonials of YOU! Our INTERNeX family. If you would like to share your experiences, be on camera and on our YouTube channel, please don’t hesitate to contact us at pr@internexcanada.com! It will help folks just like you who are interested in coming to Canada and following one of our programs to get a better understanding of what the internship, hospitality, volunteer or city placement program is about.

It will be a lot of fun to film the clips since the set will not be in the office. We will go outside and visit some nice locations of Vancouver. Maybe you have an idea where to go? What is your favorite place in this beautiful city? Maybe we can drop by your placement company and do the interview!

Let me know!

Cheers,

Ziska

INTERNeX on Youtube!

As from today on, the video from the snowtubing event that took place last Saturday can be seen on youtube aswell! It was a great day! INTERNeX has its own channel with a lot of video testimonials, so you can check out what others think about their time in Vancouver. From now on, INTERNeX will do its best to shoot more videos, not only about our fun trips and events but also of our dear candidates who would like to share their experiences with others! So if you would like to have a word and be on camera for talking about your time in Canada, send a mail to pr@internexcanada.com.

Cheers,
