Smart Saver Vancouver

Summer has arrived, so it is time to go outside and do some fun activities. Good news is that you don’t have to spend (too much) money to join the fun. Here are some ideas for your free time.

I am sure you have already heard about the famous outdoor cinema, which takes place every Tuesday at Second Beach in Stanley Park. We just went there yesterday and watched The Lion King, it was a lot of fun! Next week, Mean Girls is on the program. Just take a blanket and some snacks with you and enjoy the movie.

37298454_1806962999396722_1371304262142787584_nDo you always have plans on Tuesday nights? No problem, you can also watch an outdoor movie on Thursdays at the Waterfront Cinema at Canada Place. Movies are shown until the end of August. Tomorrow, from 9.10pm on, the movie COCO will be on the screen. You can find the entire movie line-up here. Make sure you arrive early to reserve yourself a good spot.

Another great activity for hot summer days is of course swimming or at least splashing. You can cool down in one of the five outdoor swimming pools that are spread over the city:

  • Kitsilano Pool
  • Maple Groove Pool (South Vancouver)
  • Hillcrest Aquatic Centre (close to Queen Elisabeth Park)
  • New Brighton Pool
  • Second Beach Pool (Stanley Park)

You can check out all location details and opening hours here. Admission fee for one visit is $6.10, except for Maple Grove Pool – only $3 for this one. If you are planning to go more often, you can also purchase a 10-visit pass for $48.80. You get 25% off the regular price, when you show up with a group of 10+ people. So, time to gather your friends and save some money!

14583004328_d24ee0c590_nWhy spend the evening in the gym when you can also work out in the fresh air? Just dance the night away during free Zumba classes. Canada Place is again the place-to-be for this activity. The one-hour classes take place every Monday until August 27 and start at 5.30pm. And no worries – you don’t have to be a dance pro. Everyone is welcome to join the fun workout with a view.

Next to Zumba, you can also enjoy free Yoga classes. Mat Collective Yoga offers outdoor classes at diverse great locations in Vancouver. You can either join a class downtown in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery, in East Van, at Kits Beach or even on Granville Island. Different kinds of classes are offered every day until the end of August. So you could even go daily without even spending a loonie. Check out the live schedule here. Keep in mind that you need to sign a waiver before you join a class. However, you don’t need to sign up, just get in your sport clothes and take part in the class at unique locations!

I hope I could help you save some money! See you tonight at The Relish – where you get a beer for $3, by the way ;-).

How was your weekend?

Oh wow, it is already Monday again. Time flies when you are having fun, they say. I guess that is exactly what happened to me this weekend. I escaped busy downtown for a couple of hours and enjoyed Vancouver’s nature to the fullest.

But first of all, it was time to party on Friday night! We even had a good reason to go out this time: it was Angy’s birthday on Saturday. Blarney Stone was the place to celebrate that Angy is officially no teenager anymore. We enjoyed a great mix of live band and DJ and danced the night away.

My Saturday started off with a breakfast with a view. Traveling 1,5 hours by bus was totally worth to enjoy a coffee at Horseshoe Bay’s Blenz Coffee. This was our meeting place for the day, since we wanted to take the ferry to Bowen Island. After Angy received her birthday muffin, it was time to take off. We could even sit outside on the ferry and enjoy the sun during the short ride. Angy decided to spend her birthday on the water – not swimming, but paddling. So we headed to the kayak rental on the island. It was quite windy that day, so the rental company was hesitating sending us out. But only one hour of playing cards later, we received the official go to enter the sea. So that is what we did! Equipped withKayaking PFD’s and paddles, we sat down in our double kayaks and paddled out of the bay. We could spot mountains with snowy tops and houses hidden in the forest while paddling along the coastline of the island. What an awesome panorama! Some waves were a challenge and a few even entered the boat, but no one had to take an involuntary swim. Three hours on the sea went by really fast with paddling, singing and taking pictures. When we arrived back on land, most of us were soaked. So we got a hot drink and took the next ferry back to Vancouver. Bowen Island is always worth a trip!

On Sunday morning, I found myself back in the same bus we took the day before. Destination this time: Lighthouse Park. A hike and picnic were on INTERNeX’ program for this weekend. Apparently, we were not the only ones who had this plan on this sunny Sunday. But instead of taking the direct path to the famous Lighthouse, we used some smaller ways along the coastline that were not crowded at all. We stopped several times 42417160101_0ca19d5d2b_nto take pictures of the amazing view with small Vancouver on the other side of the water. For our lunch break, we found a spot on a huge rock at the end of East Beach Trail. What a great place for a picnic! We hiked back on the other part of the park until we reached our bus stop again. Spontaneously, we decided to enjoy the sun a bit more instead of going home directly. So, we took the bus in the other direction, to Horseshoe Bay, and chilled in the park for the rest of the day.

That was a great weekend and I hope you had a good one too! See you on Wednesday at the Beaver Bar.

Experience IT review – Outdoor Movie Night

2017-08-22 22.32.00

This Tuesday we went to the outdoor movies at Stanley Park. There was a big inflatable screen in the middle of the park. When we came there, it was already really crowded. However, we saw the AMAZING sunset at English bay (yes Sarah, you missed the sunset again). When we were ready to search for a spot to sit, all the spots on the field were already taken. But luckily for us, we could find a spot where we could sit all together.

2017-08-22 22.01.16

The movie ‘The Guardians of the galaxy 2” began, so it was time for us to grab some food from the food trucks. We enjoyed the movie. Because we were more talking than actually watching the movie, we decided to go to the beach were we could talk, without interrupting the movie for other people.

We talked and laughed a lot, and of course took some pictures. When we decided to leave before the film was over,  we were already too late of course. So we did go with the flow to the busses to get home after a great night. Do you also want a great night? Come to the PuB NiGHT at Mahony & Sons tonight!

Victoria – Trip

A new month means another overnight stay. Since the sun is out and the flowers are blossomed it is time to visit the capital of BC, Victoria.

We will leave for Victoria on Saturday 26th of July at 7am from Waterfront and will take the public transport to the ferry terminal in Tsawwassern. From there we will hop on the ferry and continue or travel to Victoria. In Victoria we will firstly check-inn our hostel from where we than well explore Victoria.

Victoria is the provincial capital of BC and second largest city after Vancouver. Victoria is located on Vancouver Island which is rated as the top island in the Continental US and Canada and is voted as one of the top ten islands in the world in 2012 by the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards. Victoria is a combination of heritage architecture, colourful gardens and many outdoor activities as well as culinary experiences and a vibrant art and culture scene.

We will end our night with some drinks in one of Tim’s recommended pubs. The next morning we will have some more time to explore Victoria and who wants can join one of the many outdoor activities, such as kayaking, sup or biking. We will start or return in the late afternoon and will be back in Vancouver around 9-ish.

This fun trip will be exclusive for INTERNeX and will cost you just $90, which includes the accommodation and the ferry. This means that the cost for the public transportation in Vancouver and Victoria is not included, however we hope you understand that you can use your monthly pass for this or a zone 1 ticket since it is in the weekend. The bus in Victoria from the ferry terminal to the accommodation will be $2.50 each way, so please make sure you have this in coins.

We hope many of you will join us for this fun trip to the beautiful Victoria. If you have any further question, do not hesitate to ask us!!

PuB NiGHT Announcement

It’s Wednesday again and that means it’s time for another great PuB NiGHT. As we are really lucky right now with this amazing weather we decided to have another OUTDOOR PuB NiGHT @ the Sunset beach. We will be there around 4pm (so straight after work) and we hope you will join us at any time you want. We will meet at the same spot as last time where we watched the sunset.

We will stay at the beach to watch the sunset and we can go afterwards of course in a pub for some beers. The Sunset beach is located in the mouth of False Creek. It is the best if you take the bus number 22 from West Pender corner Seymour or Granville Street and hop off the bus the last stop before the Burrard bridge and than just walk down to the beach. So bring your towel and some food to your work and join us afterwards at the beach.

We will take a volleyball, a Frisbee and some playing cards with us 🙂

If you can’t find us or have any questions about how to get there, just give as a call or message us: 6043680816

We hope we will see you all for this great OUTDOOR PuB NiGHT this Wednesday 🙂
