Tofino Trip : Food & Beverages

The Tofino trip is only one week away. So to make sure you are prepared and ready for it here is some more information about the trip.

Tofino is developing into a tourism destination, and like all tourism destinations they are a bit more expensive. So to make sure, you can get the cheapest of the cheapest here are some tips on how to save money while in Tofino.

So to save you some money, bring some snacks and drinks with you from Vancouver, we know it is a hustle to carry it with you, but than again, you only need carry you bag to the bus in Vancouver and from the bus to the hotel.

For those who still want to join the trip, you have till Friday 3pm the time to stop by the office , if you want to join us, you also have to think about what you want to do and pay for this. If you do not pay for your activity now, you can still pay during the trip, but there will be a slit increase in the price! (ps; we only accept CASH)

The Ultimate Tofino Experience – Activities Edition

In Tofino tons of activities can be done. For surfers, there are more than enough beaches to go to. For animal lovers, you can go on whale watching or bear watching adventures and for nature lovers there are many hiking trails and bike trails.

Whale Watching
Whale watching in Tofino is almost the whole year. The whale season start beginning March with the Pacific Rim Whale Festival and goes till mid- or late October when the whales make their way to the south for mating season. You can expect to see Pacific gray whales during your trip and their is the possibility to also see Humpback whales. Mostly on the tours bald eagles, harbor seals, Steller and California sea lions as well as sea otters are seen. If you are likely to get sea sick, purchase some anti-nausea pills at the Tofino Pharmacy or ask the your guide for methods to avoid sea sickness. If you would like to go whale watching during our trip make sure you book it beforehand, which will save you some money. The cost for this activity is $70 for 1.5hrs.

Hot springs
The hot springs are situated in the Maquinna Provincial Park, 27 miles north west of Tofino. The tour to the hot springs will be a day tour so make are you pack some lunch. To get to the hot springs you have to go by boat, which takes you there in just a bit over an hour. Then the tour continues with a thirty minute walk down a cedar trail trough the old growth forest. Arrived at the hot springs you can relax in the pools that have a temperature of 109 degrees to 50 degrees. There are is also a waterfall. The tour cost $115 and includes the boat trip.

Surfing
Tofino is called the Canadian surf capital and that has a reason, the waves keep rolling in year-round on a beach that stretches over 30km. Wetsuit, booties and gloves are recommend if you want to spend some time in the water since the water is only 10C year-round. The most popular beaches for surfing are Chesterman Beach, Cox Bay Surfing and Long Beach Surfing. If you want to go surfing during the trip you can either join a 3hrs lesson for $70 or if you know how to surf you can rent a surf board, which cost you around $30 – $40.

Kayaking
Doing a kayak tour is a wonderful way to see the active life around Tofino’s harbor front and the natural environment. Due to the strong current it is not possible to only rent a kayak. However you have the option to join a 2.5hrs tour for $60 or 4hrs $75. On those tours you will be guided through the inlets of Tofino.

The Ultimate Tofino Experience – Hotel Edition

Just two more weeks before we are heading off to another adventure. We will take to ferry to Victoria Island and will visit the Canadian Capital of Surf, Tofino. We will have two nights in the nice Jamie’s Rainforest Inn.

The Jamie’s Rainforest Inn is located just off the Pacific Highway and a 10-minute walk to the Chesterman Beach, Tofino’s most popular surfing beach. The Inn is surrounded by 4 acres (16 187m2) of beautiful old growth coastal rainforest with access to walking trails and the Jamie’s private waterfront on the inlet side of the Tofino peninsula.

The Inn offers 28 rooms ranging from standard rooms with two queen beds to deluxe rooms. The rooms are equipped with a microwave, fridge and coffee room. Some rooms include fireplaces, sofa beds or kitchenettes. Free Wi-Fi is provide the hotels as well as bike rentals. Most of the rooms have a view over the beautiful rainforest and some views show a glimpse of the private waterfront. There is also a small library on-site. The restaurant serves breakfast (included), lunch and dinner. The restaurant is open from 8am till midnight, lunch is served from 12pm on, tapas from 4pm and dinner is served until midnight, also vegetarian and vegan options are available. So get your food-mode on!

Rockies Trip: Hotel Series III

During the Rockies trip we will stay in three different hotels. The premier Mountain Lodge in Valemount, Mount Royal or The Banff International in Banff and the Travelodge in Golden. In the Rockies trip: Hotel series we will give you more information about every hotel. In our third episode we will take a closer look at the Travelodge in Golden  In our last episode we took a closer look into the hotels in Banff and Valemount.

Golden is a town in the southeastern part of British Columbia, 713 kilometers east from Vancouver.It is surrounded by five National Parks Yoho National Park, Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Glacier National Park and Kootenay National Park. We will visit a couple of those parks during our trip. As Valemount and Banff, also Golden economy is based on the tourism and hospitality sector. Golden has a population of 3,701 and is the only town which as 9 automobile repair shops compared to similar sized towns.

The Travelodge is located off the Trans-Canada Highway and only 10 minutes away from all the outdoor activities. Restaurants and beer & wine stores are within walking distance. The Travelodge is the only hotel in Golden which has a saltwater pool. The pool also has a waterslide, hot tub and sauna. The rooms feature a microwave, mini-fridge, coffee-maker and hairdryer. Furthermore the Travelodge offers free wireless internet and free continental breakfast.

This will be the last hotel we stay in during our trip, but we are not done with telling you guys what to expect of this amazing trip. Stay tuned for Thursday to find out to which club we will go in Banff.

Rockies Weekend Spring 2014

Only 5 more weeks and some days before we leave for another great adventure. The rockies trip is known as one of ‘THE MUST-DO TRIP‘, while visiting Vancouver.

We will start our trip on April 18th and will be back in Vancouver on April 21st at night. You will enjoy a four day break from all the craziness in the city during the trip.

Our first stop of the tour will be in Hope, BC and we will then continue to Kamloops and the Spahats Falls. We end the first day in Valemount with a lovely BBQ Dinner and a hockey night.

 

 

The next day we will make our way to the popular Rockies resort Banff, Alberta. On our way we will stop at Mt. Robson, Jasper, Athabasca Falls and the Columbia Icefields. After a long day of sightseeing and traveling we will end the day with a big party in Banff.

 

 

On our third day we will have a tour trough Banff and will make our way to Lake Louise and we might make a stop at Lake Moraine. From there on we will take our route towards Golden were we will enjoy another lovely BBQ and a campfire party.

 

 

 

On our last day we will stop at Last Spike, the Okanagan Valley and the Othello Tunnels before we will end the tour in Vancouver.
