How was your weekend?

Did you have a fantastic weekend as well?

Last Saturday we were in search for an adrenaline-pumped experience and found it in North Vancouver at North Shore Paintball!

We arrived at the designated location at around 11:15am where we began making preparation for our impending battles. It started with receiving paintball markers, masks, (very sexy) coveralls and the all-important ammunition: paintballs.
Thereon, we were given a safety speech and the games could finally begin! But before the tales of our epic heroics, let me explain some of the game mechanics. The whole field of about 4 acres big (that’s almost 16200 sq m) was split into 2 areas. The front side had lots of hills, bunkers, buildings and barricades while the backside was a complete jungle. We had the chance to play many scenarios, each game lasting 15 min and with every group present participating but being separated into a total of 2 teams. There’s also a referee who explains every scenario at the beginning and makes sure everyone follows the rules.

The first game we played was a simple team deathmatch. Both teams started out on opposite sides of the field and had to eliminate the opposing team. In the beginning we were quite clumsy since none of us are paintball veterans. However, slowly but surely we got the hang of it. Running around, hiding, crawling, crouching and looking for enemies all at the same time was extremely exhausting but so worth it! We had so much fun!
There were times were some us stealthily appeared behind our opponents and shot them all in the back, winning the game for us. Another time the enemy holed himself up in a bunker where we couldn’t reach so we stormed it, throwing ourselves into the bunker shooting around the corner.
There were so many different scenarios to play like capture the flag, king of the hill and prison break. I was really impressed by the set up.

After 4 hours of battle, we eventually ran out of paintballs at which point we had been completely drained of energy anyway. So we returned our equipment and made our way home to Vancouver excitedly recounting our experiences.

It really was an amazing adventure and I recommend it to anyone who hasn’t gone and tried it yet.

Cheers

Trip to Deep Cove

After this great weekend and the great Canada Day we are looking forward to have fun at the next weekend. Unfortunately we have to change our plans for the upcoming  weekend! Instead of playing paintball in North Vancouver we will drive to Deep Cove for having some fun together.

We will meet us on Sunday, 6th of July, at the bus stop at Pender Street / Seymour Street at 9:15 am to take the bus to Deep Cove. Please make sure, that you will be there in time because the bus departures just a few minutes later. It is weekend so you can drive with a zone 1 ticket, the bus drive takes about 45 minutes to arrive at Deep Cove. (bus schedule including map)

Deep Cove is the most famous place around Vancouver to kayak. In a circle of mountain you will appreciate the unique landscape. So we will use the time at Deep Cove for kayaking (about $40 – $50), stand up paddling (about $20) or maybe something else. Afterwards we will have lunch together and go for a short hike which is just about 30 minutes but hopefully with some great views and lots of fun.

Please note! – If you are under 19 and you want to rent a kayak or something else, please tell us before via Facebook, Mail etc. because you will need someone who signs for you!

So let’s cross the fingers that the weather will be nice on Sunday so we will have lots of fun together! We will be happy to see you there!!!

INTERNeX Canada: Picture of the week!

INTERNeX Squad 2013

Happy Saturday! The photo for this week is from when we all went to play paintball in North Vancouver! It was a beautiful sunny day…but felt like a war zone in the forest. Contrary to what some people might think, paintball games are way more aggressive than water-gun fights. It actually feels like you are in a battle, fighting to remain alive. Players compete, in teams or individually, to eliminate opponents by shooting paintball. It really hurts…but was a lot of fun too!

Cheers,

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend?

we survived!

On Saturday afternoon, we went to North Vancouver to play some epic paintball! When we first got there, I noticed that there were a lot of people getting ready. I thought the getting ready process was way too long…filling out a waiver form, listening to their safety speech  getting our guns and paintball, putting on overalls, and then FINALLY getting to play. And they take their safety rules VERY seriously…which is a good thing I guess.

The funniest thing I saw was a guy dressed up as a pink bunny! And his suit was skin-tight. And there I was padded to the max -two layers of pants, two shirts, and a puffy winter jacket. I can only imagine how painful it must have been for poor Mr. bunny. What a champion.

I think everyone had a great time, I know I did! We played four rounds in total, but most of us stopped playing after three rounds. I took a bullet on the arm and it hurt a lot at first but then got numb after. I now have a bruise. During my last game, I was the only one left from our group. It was so intense…I just wanted to get out of the game that I even contemplated shooting myself. I did hit someone though. It was such a triumphant moment…but brief.

ready to battle?

After being physically and mentally drained, we all trudged to the local Earls restaurant for late lunch. Everyone was so hungry that we didn’t even talk during our meal. And later that night, I went to Forum pub on Granville street to say goodbye to some of our friends who are leaving soon. It’s always sad to see them go…but I’m really glad I got to be a part of their awesome experience here in Vancouver.

What did YOU do last weekend? 🙂

Cheers,

Flora
