Smart Saver Vancouver

The weather is getting better and better, which means it’s the perfect time to go out for lunch with friends. Of course, having lunch at a café can be quite expensive and hurt your bank account. Therefore, I will give you some tips on affordable lunch places in Vancouver to visit on a sunny day.

Nero Waffle Bar: its name is pretty self-explanatory; it is a bar that serves waffles. Sounds good already? It gets better! The bar makes all its waffles from scratch and mostly uses local and natural ingredients. It offers a wide variety of sweet and savoury waffles including waffles with ice cream. The best thing: you can get them for less than $10! The bar has two locations; Robson Street and Seymour Street. When it’s warm outside, I would suggest going to the one on Seymour Street, since it serves cold beers (I told you it would get better) and has a patio. However, eating inside is enjoyable too since there is an open kitchen that allows visitors to see the waffles being made. Opening hours are 11am to 11pm Monday until Thursday, 11am to midnight on Fridays, 9am to midnight on Saturdays and 9am to 11pm on Sundays. 14792913941_a93004f28b_n

Hungry Guys Kitchen: At this lunch and dinner place, you can enjoy tasty burritos, bowls and salads for a good price. What is great about this place is that you can put them together yourself! You can choose the base, beans, protein and toppings of your burrito or bowl for $8.89 and the base, protein, veggies and dressing of your salad from $6.50 on. Good to know: the chefs strive to use local and sustainable products free of artificial colors and preservatives. Hungry Guys Kitchen is located on Granville Street and it is open everyday from 11am until 8:30pm.

Meat and Bread: This sandwich place does not have a large menu, however, there is a diversity of food. Visitors can choose between a chicken, porchetta, grilled cheese and meatball sandwich (as weird as that may sound). Besides that, there is a ‘Wednesday Special’ that includes a turkey fajita and avocado. Prices are between $7 and $10. Not hungry enough for a sandwich, but still up for something small? Why not order a $4 dessert? Let’s be real, the dessert is the most exciting part of a meal anyway. Sounds good? You can find this place on Cambie Street. Opening hours are 11am to 5pm from Monday to Wednesday, 11am to 7pm from Thursday to Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sunday.

I hope I inspired you to visit some of these places. See you tonight at Dublin Calling for PuB NiGHT!

PuB Night Announcment

Tomorrow we’re having our PuB Night at the Darby’s. They’re located on Macdonald Street and 4th Ave, which is only about 5min walk away from different parks at the beach. So we can stay there until about quarter to 10 and then just head to the beach and we’ll be able to see the fireworks of the Celebration of Light because we’re just on the other side of the english bay.

They’re serving typical canadian food, from Poutine over Fish&Chips to Burgers or Salads and they offer more than 30 different beers.

You can get there with different busses. If you get off the Skytrain at Burrard Station you can take the busses 022, 044, 007,004 or 002 and get off at Macdonald& 4th Ave. (Macdonald&3rd Ave if you take the 022). We hope to get the change to sit outside at the patio, so bring a jacket or something, in case it gets colder during the evening.

Hope to see many of you there, it will be Henrik’s first PuB Night, so you can use the chance to get to know him. See you tomorrow at 7pm at the Darby’s!

Sleep at the Athlete’s Village in Whistler!

On our trip to Whistler  Laura, Mette and me had the change to stay in the new HI  Whistler Hostel.

Before the hostel opened its doors it was part of the athlete’s village during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Since the opening, on July 1, 2010, it has been attracting people from all around the world.

My first impression  was that it is a modern and clean hostel. What I particularly liked is that you share the bathroom with 2 rooms. So instead of sharing it with an entire floor (what I am used to during my time backpacking in Australia) you only have to share it with the people in your room and in the adjacent room. The TV-room is really big and has some comfortable seats; I can picture myself sitting on the couch after a long day and watch a movie. The hostel also has a event board were the hostel staff posts the events in and around Whistler for the week!

The hostel has a lounge area that is perfect for reading a book or relaxing after a long day. The dining room offers more than enough space to have a relaxed dinner and if you would like some fresh air while eating you can choose to eat you dinner out on the patio! To see some pictures of the hostel, click here

The hostel is located about a 10 minute bus ride from Whistler, but with busses stopping there every half hour you will be in Whistler Downtown within no time!

Some facts about the HI-Whister:

  • Two floors of dorms with ensuite bathrooms
  • 14 private ensuite rooms
  • Family-friendly rooms
  • On-site café with outdoor patio
  • Theatre-style meeting room (seats 60)
  • TV lounge and large games room
  • Self-catering kitchen with dining room
  • Outdoor patio and BBQ deck with mountain views
  • State-of-the-art ski/snowboard/bike storage
  • A beauty of a fireplace

Want to go check out this beautiful hostel? Moose’s Sea to Sky tour give you the perfect opportunity to see all what Whistler has to offer in just 2 days. You will sleep in the HI-Whistler hostel, so don’t wait and sign up to for an awesome tour to Whistler! You can book your trip at INTERNeX! Would rather go by yourself? Check out the HI-Whistler website to see which dates are available!
