Review: Visit to the Vancouver Aquarium

Saturday we went to the Vancouver Aquarium to get an experience out of the ordinary. As we went through the entrance we of course had the opportunity to get a picture taken by the aquarium staff. As we went through the aquarium it became obvious that perhaps it was a bit bigger than expected. Not only does the aquarium host lots of colourful fish, it also has a small rainforest including parrots and butterflies. The aquarium also has a 4D-cinema, where it is possible to not only see but also get a feeling of the ocean as a bit of water is sprayed out at the audience. As we walked through the aquarium, we quickly agreed that the penguins were the most entertaining attraction at the aquarium. They all have this funny way of walking.

For some time there has been protest about the aquarium keeping dolphins in captivity. Aquarium managers and staff agues that it’s only doing rehabilitation programs, while doing research in order to get to know more about the dolphins. They also argue that they want to give visitors knowledge about the dolphins. The dolphin show was surely interesting to watch, but has also been argued by protestors and activists to be unnatural.

The time went by fast as we were looking at all the amazing creatures. It took us about 3 hours to get through the entire aquarium.

INTERNeX Canada: Vancouver Aquarium

How about some relaxing after a hard week of work at the Vancouver Aquarium. The Vancouver Aquarium features a 4D Experience, a meeting with African penguins and a beluga or dolphin show.

The Vancouver Aquarium is a non-profit society, passionate about conserving the aquatic life. Their shows are developed around the animals’ natural behaviors and therefore will no show ever be the same. A day at the Vancouver Aquarium can be best described as a ‘relaxed learning experience’. We will have a great time watching the underwater creatures doing what they are best at, swimming.

When: Saturday 8 February, 11:00am

Where: Vancouver Aquarium 845 Avison Way

See here for more information about the event

Hope to see you all on Saturday!

Last Saturday afternoon, we visited the Vancouver Aquarium!! It was really fun going around and looking at all the exotic underwater creatures! I felt so excited and nervous as we walked in, even though I had been there many times! And because there were so many things to see, I didn’t know where to begin! We decided that it was best to look around outside first since it could start to rain later during the day. As we went outside, we saw an otter swimming around. I think the otter was everyone’s favorite part of the day! Then we went to watch the beluga whale show and of course after we went to see the small penguins. And of course, we went to watch the special presentation on Sharks and Rays, which was really cool! We learned a lot about the history of sharks!

My least favorite part of the day was probably during lunch time, because we had to sit outside as we almost froze to death. Okay, I’m just exaggerating, it wasn’t THAT bad. But I really wish they had an indoor cafeteria or something. The last thing we did at the Aquarium was going into a theater to watch a 4D show on the salmon run! It was really cool because of the special effects and little surprises during the movie! If you haven’t been, I really think you should go check it out.

And to end the day, we all went to McDonalds for the free coffee! It was hilarious because there were so many of us and we all asked for the free coffee. Too bad the deal is now over!! Overall, it was such an awesome day at the Vancouver Aquarium, and the Sharks and Rays exhibition is still open till April so go now if you weren’t able to join us last weekend!

If you missed out on some our events last month, don’t fret because March is full of fun events! Join us for a movie/games/potluck night this Saturday and sign up for our Rocky Mountain getaway trip!

Cheers,

Flora
