INTERNeX Canada: PuB NiGHT Review!

Last night we had our weekly pub night at the Lamplighter Public House, the city’s busiest pub for good reason: friendly service, cozy design and a large selection of drinks.

Lamplighter is also a very popular place because they usually show a variety of sports; so yeah, for those who want to watch soccer, this is the right place!

We had an awesome time there: We were drinking while watching hockey. (Vancouver vs San Jose).

The match was really intense, and for those who love hockey (mostly 95% of the pub) the atmosphere became really tense when Canucks lost (I know, too bad…but guys, keep in mind this is the first game, so Canucks will have more opportunities).

By the way, the place and the service were awesome, and we had a free bingo during the intermissions. Unfortunately we didn’t win, but next time we’ll do it for sure!

And the most important thing: it wasn’t pricey! 5$ Wings and $4,25 featured Phillips beer. Sounds good, eh ?

It was such an amazing night !!

I hope to see you soon and thank you all for coming!

Best,

Mercedes

INTERNeX Canada: Top Canadian Google Searches of 2012

Google is probably the place I go to when I need an answer for anything. In this day and age, we don’t go to the doctors anymore when we are sick or open an actual dictionary to look up the meaning of a word. If there’s something we don’t understand? We turn on our laptop or our iPhone and Google has the answer.

Recently, Google Canada revealed what the most popular Canadian searches of 2012 were and you might find some answers rather surprising or not! It’s kind of cool to see what kind of things, news or people were searched by Canadians in this year!

The Top Trending searches (new searches with the highest amount of traffic) of the year was Pinterest, which is a photo sharing social media website, with Hurricane Sandy and the London Olympics to follow.

Our very own Prime Minister, Stephen Harper was the most searched Canadian Politician, as he should be and is followed by Justin Trudeau, who is a candidate for the leadership of the Liberal Party and the son of Pierre Trudeau, the late former Prime Minister of Canada.

Not surprisingly, the top most searched Canadian Musician, remains to be Justin Bieber with Carly Rae Jepsen following in third place. She has been well-known in Canada for quite some time after placing third in the television show “Canadian Idol” in 2007, but she only became famous outside of Canada after Justin tweeted about her earlier this year!

The Vancouver Canucks was the third most searched Canadian Sports Teams and Vancouver, itself, was the fourth most searched Cities in Google Maps.

The Canadian beer Molson remains the most searched Beer and the most searched Canadian Foods were bacon, poutine and maple syrup. Very typical, right?

What I found most interesting was that people, even on the internet, are simply looking for love. The top Trending ‘What Is…?’ is What is Love and second highest Trending ‘How To…?’ is How to Love.

These statistics may seem kind of boring, but it shows the dominant thoughts and influences of the culture in this period of time. Our ways of discovering the “truth” has changed with our advancement in technology and social media. Who knows, maybe Google does have the answer for everything, even if its love!

For a complete list of the top Google Searches, take a look at Google Zeitgeist 2012.

Cheers,

Queenie

Exposé of the week – Tofino

Tofino is a district of about 1,650 residents on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island. It was commanders Galiano and Valdés, who discovered the place and decided to name it in honour of Admiral Vicente Tofiño under whom Galiano had learned cartography.

Tofino is a popular tourist destination – especially in the summer where its population swells to many times its winter size. It mainly attracts surfers, campers and whale watchers, but also people who just want to be close to the nature.
It is not as busy in the winter time, but still manage to attract a good amount of people, who mainly comes here to watch storms on the water (which is quite a view!)

Just 45 kilometres north of Tofino, nearby Maquinna Marine Provincial Park, you can find the hot springs cove, which is located next to the sea. You can only reach the hot springs by boat or float plane, which makes it a very popular day-trip.
Tofino is also known for being one of the best places to spot whales. The best period for spotting whales is between March and April, where the migration of thousands of grey whales takes place. There are many hiking trips available as well and especially the trails along Long Beach are quite scenic.

From Vancouver the easiest way to get to Tofino is by boat from Horseshoebay to Nanaimo. From there you can either rent a car or go with the bus. Another way is to go by sea plane, which takes off from the harbour area of Vancouver. If you have not been to Tofino yet, now is the best time of the year!

Cheers,
Your PR-team
