New ‘Kids’ on the Blog!

“New ‘kids’ on the blog” is back! I hope you have some time because today I would like to introduce you to our 5 (!) newcomers this week. Welcome to our INTERNeX-family! 🙂

Let’s start with Franca. First of all, she’s staying on Vancouver Island. So it’s even more exciting! IMG_0832

After graduating from High School she decided to see a little bit of the world. She has already travelled a lot in the last time and has been to London, Stonehenge and Scotland. Besides that she gained some work experience as a teaching assistant in Spain. This time it brought her to Canada for volunteering at a wildlife station. Reason for that is her interest in our beautiful country’s nature and she missed having animals around her at her previous job. I guess now it won’t be an issue anymore. 🙂
Franca chose Canada because she’s not so attracted by the US (good for us!).
Since she’s staying on Vancouver Island she wants to discover that (maybe with a friend she knows, staying in Victoria), but she doesn’t have any certain destinations on her travel bucket list, yet.

Next to our Homestay roomies, who are both part of our practicum program:

Our second newcomer is David. He’s 19 years old and from Germany. Before coming to Vancouver he has already been to Toronto for 9 days because he has family there.
Back home he’s really into outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking which also made him choose Canada as a destination.
One thing on his bucket list, is going to Yukon, a territory in the northwest of Canada. And he will have plenty of time to do that, because he already planned 4 weeks of travelling in the end of his stay.

Now let me introduce you to William. He’s 20 years old and from Denmark, where he’s living near Copenhagen.
William is really looking forward to get the experience to work here and furthermore to travel a lot, too.
Same as David he has some travel time after his practicum and Victoria Island is one place he already knows he wants to see, but he’s spontaneous so let’s see where his travels will lead him to. Another thing he already has in mind is doing a skiing trip in the next few months, since he knows a skiing instructor here in Canada – how practical!
His arrival is perfect timing because William is an Ice Hockey fan and he is excited to join our Hockey event at the end of March. Go Canucks! 😀

Our last two participants are work and travellers. These 2 boys came together from Germany and planned on working for a little bit in Vancouver and then buy a car for their 2 months travelling. Buying a car or van gives them the opportunity to start their road trip to Montreal from where they’re flying back home.

The boy on the left is Lukas. He just likes the idea of work and travel and trusted his gut feeling and decided on doing it in Canada. So far there’s a skiing trip on his travel bucket list for his time here in North America.

Last but not least, I would like to present you Oliver. Just like Lukas he trusted on his guts with his decision on going to Canada. But one thing he knew for sure was that he doesn’t want to go to New Zealand or Asia like most of his friends did and as a conclusion he chose Canada since it’s more rare.

I guess these two might plan a skiing trip together because Oliver wants to go skiing as well – maybe in the Rockies! 😀

I wish you guys a really great time here! I promise you it’s gonna be unforgettable! 🙂

Hope to see you for Pub Night at the Yale tonight!

See ya! xx

Cheers,

– Alina

New “Kid” and PR Coordinator on the Blog!

This week there’s one new “kid” joining the INTERNeX family and it’s me, Alina. I’m going to be the new PR Coordinator for INTERNeX. I’m so happy to finally be here in Vancouver and already had a really warm welcome.

My studies brought me to Canada because we get the chance to do a practicum for 5 months. As I’m studying tourism and travel management, I thought it would be a great opportunity to complete it in a different country. In addition to that I was already able to gain amazing experiences abroad while working as an AuPair in New Zealand 3 years ago. IMG_0745

I chose Canada as a destination because I’ve never been to North America before and I’ve already heard and seen so much about it, so I wanted to convince myself of it’s inherent natural beauty.

I can’t wait to organize Pub Nights and all other exciting events and trips. As probably all of you, I’m really looking forward to discover Canada’s nature and I’m most excited for the Rocky Mountains. Another thing on my to-do list is watching a hockey match, since I have been playing field hockey back in Germany.

I’m pretty sure we’re all having an unforgettable and amazing time here together and I can’t wait to get to know you guys and see what’s on your travel bucket list.

So I hope to see you all for Pub Night at the Beaver on Wednesday! 🙂

Cheers,

– Alina

New “Kids” on the Blog

It’s amazing to see so many new candidates arriving at the beginning of the year – this week we welcome Laura and Merle from Germany to the INTERNeX community. Great to have you both here with us!!

Laura, who is 22 and studies Business Law in good old Germany, came to Vancouver because of friend’s recommendations. She is part of our Practicum Program and excited for gaining international experience in her field of interest. Besides that, her goal is to improve her English skills by simply having to speak in English at her placement. In terms of travelling, Laura, wants to discover Vancouver Island and Seattle.IMG_0701Merle, who is 18 and from the high North of Germany is also part of our Practicum program and just graduated from High School. It was important to her, just like all her friends, to travel abroad for some time, but especially doing this on her own. She is fascinated by Canada and its nature and therefore, no surprise that the Rocky Mountains are on top of her travel bucket list. But also Vancouver Island and the great combination of Vancouver’s beaches and mountains is something she would like to explore. Apart from that, Merle also wants to talk a lot of English to improve her skills.

Great times ahead of you guys, have a wonderful start here in Vancouver and we’d love to see you at tomorrow’s Pub Night at the Stanley Park Brewery. I’m stoked^^.

Cheers,

– Felicitas

New “Kids” on the Blog

We are happy to announce many more Newcomers this week: Welcome Anne-Sophie, Nina, Niels and Marco!!

Anne-Sophie made all her way from Belgium to us. As a marketing student, she is looking forward to her marketing practicum and her time in Canada, a country that was recommended to her by friends and her university. For she is already an expert in Dutch and French, she’s in the perfect spot to perfect her English skills. But of course she is also excited for all the great nature this beautiful country has to offer and would like to travel to Vancouver Island, go snowboarding and see some Hockey games. Not to forget Anne-Sophie is super excited to meet lots of internationals – well, this is the best city to do that Anne-Sophie!

IMG_0557

Niels, also from Belgium, is from the same university as Anne-Sophie and became interested in Vancouver during a Botswana trip. When he spent some time with internationals during his trip, he asked in the group what the greatest city was they ever went to and 6 of them replied: “Vancouver!” :D. So an easy choice for Niels who is also here for a practicum and is interested in travelling to the Rocky Mountains (he definitely wants to see a bear during his time here) and spend some time whale watching. Just like Anne-Sophie he is excited for snowboarding and watching Hockey games. Not to forget, he’d like to visit Stanley Park and compare the scenery of today to the pictures of when he was three years old and visiting the park with his family. Sounds like a great endeavour with lots to explore.

Another one of our newcomers is Nina from Germany. She’s staying in a homestay in Surrey where she is volunteering there in an animal shelter. Being concerned with Canada as her dream destination, she was especially motivated to come here because of the mentality of the people, but also for working on her English skills. As a biology student, she’s going to have a great time at the shelter in Surrey, which focuses on scientific approaches analysing and monitoring animal behaviour. Nina would also like to travel to the Rocky Mountains and see Banff National Park, Seattle and – of course – some Hockey games.

Last but not least, we welcomed Marco from Austria this week. He is also volunteering in the same domestic animal shelter as Nina in Surrey and will also be based there in a host family. He mentioned that he had always been amazed by Canada and the vast nature our beautiful country has to offer, which made him come here eventually. Just like the others, he is also excited to travel around and, how could it be any different, watch Hockey games. Seems like you guys should make some plans for that right away. 🙂

Great to welcome you all, have a wonderful start here in Vancouver and we’d love to see you at tonight’s Pub Night at Malone’s Social Lounge and Taphouse!!

Cheers,

– Felicitas

New ‘Kids’ on the Blog!

The New ‘Kids’ on the Blog!

Our favourite day of the week is finally back. And before celebrating tonight at the Yale Saloon, we gotta meet our newest additions.

newKids

We’ve got 4 fantastic newbies joining the INTERNeX family this week. Therefore lets not lose any space (and time) and start of right away with Arne.
Just like the other 3, Arne is here to take part in our practicum program. Besides getting as much practical experience as possible he’s also here to learn the language and get to know the Canadian atmosphere a bit better. And coming here was clearly not a head over heals decision, as he has been here 3 times already. With family living here in Vancouver, he already got quite a good insight, but now it was time to pack his bags for a bit longer and become part of this beautiful culture himself.

Moving on to Elena from Austria. For her, the most important thing was, to get as far away from home as possible, and all of a sudden, this place ‘Canada’ on a whole different continent was looking pretty convincing. Don’t worry Elena, I think we can all relate. Sometimes it’s simply the best to get a bit further away to actually challenge yourself and start the adventure of your lifetime. Elena likes to explore and spend a lot of time outside being active, therefore I’ll have to say: Welcome to Canada, you are going to LOVE it so much. Being active and outside has never been easier and more beautiful ;-).
Our next newbie here is Cornelia, she will be doing her practicum in Marketing and Event Management and is also here to improve her language skills. Cornelia has already spent a lot of time in the USA and is now ready to see this beautiful country everyone is talking about over there :P. I am joking, those were not her words .. just mine. You gotta love Canada :-D. No, for real, Cornelia wants to explore a different english speaking country and I am very glad she decided to come here to beautiful Canada :).

And the very last one of today’s New ‘Kids’, is Anna. She is already a big fan of North America in general, she is even planning on moving to either Canada or the USA for good. Therefore this is a very good chance to get an impression of what this could look like. Annas biggest hobby is travelling – what a coincidence – thats ours too Anna, welcome to the group ;-).

Last but not least I would like to talk about a more personal matter.

Tonight will be my last Pub-Night at INTERNeX and you guys have no idea how sad I am to actually say that out loud (type it out loud, just didn’t sound as meaningful ;-)).
Therefore I would be so happy to have you guys around at tonights Pub-Night at the Yale Saloon. I gotta thank each and everyone for making my time here so so special!
Let’s ride that (mechanical) bull one last time!
Oh and actually you don’t have to come there because of me, but ever since New Years Eve, William has been practising the Line Dance so so hard. Tonight is the night to finally show off his skills. So don’t miss out!

Love you all
(as you see, I am getting very emotional already)
