INTERNeX Canada: Highlights of the Week

The first full week of January is over, how is everyone doing? Let’s do a recap on what happened this week!

PUB NIGHT: It was a good catch up with the group at The New Oxford after the holidays. Everyone seemed to have had different plans over the past two weeks!

But, it was also really sad because we had to say goodbye to Torben and Pascaline this week. We miss them so much already and wish them all the best no matter where they are in the world!

CASUAL FRIDAY: Life can be kind of confusing and brings along all kinds of challenges. There are times, such as now, when you are just trying to live it and figure out how to live it! I’m sure most of you can relate to this amazing blog post that Irene wrote.

HOCKEY IS BACK: Woohoo! The 2013 season is almost starting and the city is definitely getting excited. Are you ready?

PROJECT BARCA: Join us for an amazing night of dancing and acting. I’m not sure when the last time you guys went to watch a performance like this, but there is a first time for everything right? Not only so, It’ll be an awesome place to meet other INTERNeX-ers!

Cheers,

Queenie

INTERNeX Canada: What to do on the Weekend?

January isn’t exactly the most exciting month. We’re all tired from the Christmas festivities and broke from it.  We’ve come to the rescue on how to beat the January blues. And, these activities won’t break the bank!

Project Barca

Let’s do something different this weekend by watching a dance performance with the INTERNeX crew. I think its safe to say that most of us are trying to discover ourselves and find adventures at our age. With the theme “Going ‘West’ to find the ‘East’/ Going ‘East’ to find the ‘West’, Project Barca talks about the idea of self-discovery through dancing.

  • When? Sunday, January 12th @ 8PM
  • Where? Fei & Milton Wong Experimental Theatre, Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 West Hastings Street)

To join this event, sign up on Facebook HERE.

Snowshoeing

Don’t know how to ski or snowboard, but would like to hit up the slopes? Snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery that Vancouver has to offer and it is a great workout. Plus, its easy, if you know how to walk, you know how to snowshoe. It isn’t too pricey either. It costs $27 for rentals and pass at Seymour and $26 at Cypress.

The weather is beautiful this weekend, so get out there!

Vancouver Comic Con

Do you love to geek out with the Avengers or the Justice league? Then, Vancouver’s very own Comic Con is perfect for you. If you bring a new or gently used graphic novel, then admission is FREE and it will be donated to various Vancouver schools. There will be prizes and special guests including Shaun Knowler, the artist and writer of (one of my favourite comics) Transformers.

  • When? Sunday, January 13th @11am to 5pm
  • Where? Heritage Hall, 3102 Main Street Vancouver

For more information, check out the website HERE.

Happy weekend!

Cheers,

Queenie

INTERNeX Canada: What is your passion?

I’ ve been always jealous of that kind of  people who knows what they want in their life, the people who has a passion, a vocation and spend the most of the time improving in that subject. Your passion can be chemistry, medicine, music, painting…whatever! But if you really love something, and you enjoy spending your time doing that you will get whatever you want! No limits!

So that’s why I can’t wait to see in action Project Barca… Canadian and Spanish dancers sharing a passion, sharing a dream.. We are really lucky to have the possibility to see that kind of event!!

When? Saturday 12th of January at 7:30 pm

Where? Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, Simon Fraser University, 149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver, British Columbia V6B 1H4

And in your case? What is your passion?

Cheers,

Irene

Using the historic events of 1492 as a reference point it explores the concept of going west to find east, and by default going east to find west.

INTERNeX Canada: Upcoming events for January

Even we are relaxing enjoying Christmas time, January will arrive soon, so it’s time to know what events we have planned for you guys!

Project Barca

Here is their official description:

Here be dragons / Non plus ultra is a new work by choreographer Henry Daniel with Musical Director/Composer Owen Underhill featuring dancers, musicians, and media artists from Barcelona, Spain, and Vancouver, Canada. The work deliberately uses the city of Barcelona as a vehicle, a barca, for new cross-Atlantic voyages of discovery and understanding, connecting to Vancouver, Canada, at the edge of the Pacific. Using the historic events of 1492 as a reference point it explores the concept of going west to find east, and by default going east to find west.

The dancers in this work offer their personal narratives to question and provoke issues of identity, looking at what happens when the human urge to adventure takes hold, when the curiosity and excitement of discovery turns to colonization, and/or occupation of territory; the physical, psychological, and emotional territory of self and others.

When?Saturday 12th of January

And for how much? The original price is 29$, 19$ for student! but INTERNeX people we can have a special deal if 8 or more of you wanna come and make it for JUST 14$! Intercultural dance!
