PuB NiGHT Review: The Bottleneck

‘How many Oscars won the film The Shape of Water?’ No clue? Neither did we. With this and more difficult questions, we had to deal yesterday night during our pub night at The Bottleneck. So today, we are a bit smarter than yesterday.

The Bottleneck is a small bar in the middle of the entertainment street Granville. It is quite hidden, so you have to watch out to find the entrance. Suddenly, the pub was quickly filled with motivated players for the ‘Get Smarty Trivia’, which is hosted every Wednesday at the Bottleneck. Even though we tried to figure out the answers in teamwork, it was really hard! Many of them were American focused, but at least we could proudly name the neighbour countries of Luxembourg. All in all, the trivia was a fun mix of film, music, history and cultural questions.

After all the questions were asked, we handed our creative answers to our neighbours and we got to know the solutions. And we won a prize! For being the second last, but a prize is a prize, so we were happy about it. Until we tried our free winner drinks … We all had never seen a drink like this before. A Canadian speciality called ‘Bloody Caesar’ includes vodka, clamato juice, Worcestershire and Tabasco. And because this combination is not weird enough, you get pickled asparagus, celery, chirozo, prawn and beet on top! We had quite a hard time to finish those drinks. Respect, Canadians!

Oh and by the way, The Shape of Water won 4 Oscars 😉

See you on Sunday for a relaxed stroll on Granville Island!

First I would like to thank Steve for preparing everything and leading us through the evening. You did a great job and we had a lot of fun! Thank youuuu.

IMG_2970As you may know we had a variation of our weekly PUB NiGHT yesterday. Instead of going out and having some drinks we met in the INTERNeX office to play a kind of poker. Tim stood us some snacks and Steve had prepared a power point presentation with all the questions, the hints and the answer we needed for playing Poker Quiz.

It was so much fun guessing the all questions because most of the time we had no clue at all and so the answers we gave were absolutely far away from the actual answer to the question. In addition the clues weren’t any help at all.
But well, I mean that was the reason why it was so much fun, wasn’t it? Furthermore the goal was just to get closest to the answer as possible so therefore we had the perfect chance to unpack our amazing poker skills

IMG_2974Let me just give you an example of one of the most unbelievable answer in the entire game: For instance would you’ve known the answer of the following question?

How long is the shortest commercial flight in the world? (under ideal wind conditions)

Clue 1:                        The flight connects two islands within the United Kingdom.

Clue 2:                        An adult would need 32 minutes to walk the distance on average.

Answer:                     47 seconds.

INTERNeX Canada: PuB NiGHT Review

We decided to spice things up a bit for this week’s PuB NiGHT @ Sharks Club, so we organized an INTERNeX Trivia Quiz and it was a huge success! We had great prizes to give away and everyone was actually pretty knowledgeable about Vancouver and Canadian Trivia.

3rd place came down to a 3-way tie. Whoever was brave enough to stand up and sing the Canadian National Anthem got to claim the prize. Daniela was the courageous contestant and sang the first few words to the Anthem and won 2 tickets to the Maritime Museum!

2nd Place went to Esther, just one point behind 1st place and she was the lucky winner of 2 tickets to the Museum of Anthropology

The 1st place ultimate winner of the INTERNeX Trivia Night was Niels!  He was the only one to know both of the Vancouver Soccer and Football teams.  Niels took home a 2-hour scooter rental around Vancouver!!

Did you guys like having the quiz and the chance to win prizes? Let us know if you would like us to do something like this again soon 🙂

Fun Facts – “Which direction is North in Canada?”

Let’s make some time travel… zzZzzzzt!

Now we are back in 2009, right before the Olympic Winter Games took place in Vancouver.

The world was really excited about this event and a lot of international people pilgrimaged to Canada in order to be part of it. Since the country was in the spotlight of attention back then, interest arose and many people wanted to know what Canada is really about. So they posted questions on an International Tourism Website. Believe it or not…the questions below are real! Just the answers are made up 😉

  • Q: I have never seen it warm on Canadian TV, so how do the plants grow? (England)

A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around and watch them die.

  • Q: Will I be able to see polar bears in the street? (USA)

A: Depends on how much you’ve been drinking.

  • Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto-can I follow the Railroad tracks? (Sweden)

A: Sure, it’s only four thousand miles, take lots of water.

Yesterday we had our INTERNeX Quiz NiGHT at the Moose’s Down Under sponsored by! The night started at 8 pm, when slowly the candidates were coming into the bar. When everyone was there, we started to divide everyone into teams. All the teams had to come up with their own team name. My team name was for example: Denemex (Denmark, Netherlands and Mexico). When all the teams were ready we started the quiz! The first round was the picture round – we had a paper with famous people and we had to write down their names on the answer sheet. The second round was ‘general knowledge’. The third round was a movie round with only questions about well-known movies. Finally, the last round was all about music! The questions weren’t easy, but we were battling for an amazing price – 150 dollar bar tap!!

While the jury was counting the points, we were discussing all the questions and we having a nice chat with each other. After a few minutes they were ready to announce the winner! The winners of the $150 dollar bar tap are….. Christian, Bart, Roy and Elvera!! Congratulations to you all, you deserved to win with 43 points!

It was a really nice PuB NiGHT last night and I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did!! We will see everyone next Wednesday again :D. If you would like to see more pictures that were taken yesterday, go to our Flickr-account.

Great Day at the Barbecue Kick-Off!

Wow! It was great to see so many people come out for the barbecue on Saturday! I loved seeing new faces and hope everyone had a great time. Congratulations to Kim, who won two tickets to the Vancouver International Film Centre!

I also wanted to say thanks to Johan, who helped cook all the burgers, sausages and hot dogs for everyone! They were absolutely delicious! It was too bad the weather wasn’t nice, but I think everyone had fun playing poker and card games inside! The glow sticks in the dance room were a cool effect and fun to look at!

If you didn’t get the chance to make it out, there will be plenty more events and trips coming up, so keep an eye out for those. The next INTERNeX PuB NiGHT will be June 10, at the Blarney Stone in Gastown. More information about that can be found here.

If you would like to see pictures from the barbecue, visit our Flickr account! You’re probably in some shots!

If you have any questions, or would like to be signed up for our newsletter, send your name and e-mail address to We always love to hear your comments and ideas for future events, so write us on facebook!

Hope to see you out with us soon!

Hi from Houtan!

So you might be wondering who this fine young gentleman is?! Well this is Houtan and some of you  might not have met him before because has been out of the office for a little while. Currently, Houtan is working out of Toronto but will be back in the office in the next few months so here is a quick introduction to a new face (for some of you at least) and check out baby Nala in the picture…too cute!

What is your name?

Where are you from?
Tehran, Iran

What languages do you speak fluently other than English?
Russian. I can also communicate in Ukrainian and Arabic and a bit of German, and of course Persian my mother tongue

What position do you hold at INTERNeX? and for how long?
Good question, I have no idea what one would call my position or anyone else’s position for that matter at INTERNeX International Exchange..funny thing is that part of our job is to try and envision what working in a Canadian company would be like to most people who are about to work within a Canadian organization through one of our programs. Yet we work in a company that demonstrates and represents a Canadian organization based on employees from different parts of the world who wear different hats on a daily basis to provide excellence in service. That is why I can’t really tell you what my position is. (does this make sense?) I think Im just blabbing on again, but hey that’s me!! Lol And I have been working at INTERNeX just over 2 years and they have been  full of excitement

What made you want to get involved with INTERNeX in the first place?
Like minded people, think alike…well, I’ve had quite a background in travelling from A to B (never enough though), learning about visas, after finishing up school and getting involved with Canadian Resorts and the hospitality industry, it all seemed like a good match with what INTERNeX had to offer, so there I was getting started and here I am still rocking it

In what ways do you think INTERNeX is unique from other international placement agencies? What does INTERNeX offer that no other company can?
Aside from the fact of how thorough our service is and its not even comparable to any other agency, it’s also that we don’t think our programs are for everyone. The participant needs to understand the purpose of the program before being forced to be a part of it. Our honesty in delivering the service is a key in managing expectations

What changes have you personally noticed within INTERNeX?
I have noticed a number of little programs come and go, but the city placement program was a great success and it still is both in Vancouver and recently in Toronto. We also now have more representatives abroad, an official office in New Zealand, and a more so active presence in Toronto, ON

Where would you like to see INTERNeX in the next 10 years? Do you have any New Year’s goals for the company?
I truly believe that the possibilities are endless. Obviously I, along with the rest of the team, would like to see a world wide network of services provided by INTERNeX offices across the world. Now the services provided by INTERNeX within the next 10 years is what I would like to see continue on its journey to completion and perfection so that one day we’d be a tool for anyone from anywhere in the world that would like to take a trip to any part of the world for the purpose of work experience and/or self development

Tell us one interesting thing about yourself that not a lot of people know?
As a kid I always wanted to become a vet

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
It is really hard to answer this question, I love travelling and I don’t think I can settle anywhere for too long. I like what Toronto has to offer as a city, yet Vancouver’s geographical location is much more attractive than Toronto. On the other hand, Kiev Ukraine is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever lived in due to its historical background and remarkable architecture. But again, the grass is always greener on the other side, so we’ll keep on moving
