How Was Your Weekend?

Hi people, I hope your weekend was as good as mine, because I had a great weekend! On Friday we went with some INTERNeXers to Malone’s to watch the Canucks play against the Chicago Hawks. We were in the bar already 2 hours before the game to make sure we had a spot to sit, however when we walked into the bar it was already packed!! Luckily we still got a spot at the bar in front of the big screen, so we could watch the game. It was an exciting game and OF COURSE the Canucks won with 4-3!! After the game, some of us went to a club and others went to another pub to celebrate the victory!!

On Saturday Elvera, Roy and I went to the Holland Store in New West Minister. We have all been here for quite a while now and now we start to miss the real typical Dutch food! In this store you can buy almost everything they sell in a normal Dutch supermarket, so Elvera, Roy and I were like kids in a candy store. We bought frikandellen (meat), ranja (squash), speculaas (cookies), Dutch tea, paprika flavored chips and more. So, for everyone who is Dutch or just loves Dutch food, you should really go there!

My weekend ended with a relaxing Sunday. I was just enjoying the weather and chilling in a quiet staffhouse, which is not really common if you live with 18 people ;).

What did you do in  your weekend? Tell us by leaving a comment! 🙂

Cheers,
Claudia

Time to say goodbye :(

Hi everyone,

Today is my last day at INTERNeX. I remember my first day clearly. It was about 3,5 months ago and according to the people at the office I was very quiet back then. But that only lasted one day, just long enough for me to realize what a crazy bunch of people work at INTERNeX! After realizing that I loosened up and started acting like myself. I had a great time here and the people in the office are very friendly and helpful.

As most of you know, I send a survey yesterday asking you to answer a few short questions. This is all part of my internship assignment that I have to do as a part of my university back home. I would like to thank everyone for filling it out, and ask you to fill another one out next week. This survey will be about your program and gives you the opportunity to tell us about your experiences in Canada

During my time at a PR intern I had to change to meet some amazing people! Every time new candidates came I got the change to meet everyone.  Most of the candidates I saw again during the events we organized! Speaking of events, one part of my job I really liked was organizing events. Some of my favorite events we organized were paint balling, bowling, Disney evening, Lasertag and Karaoke and the outdoor movie viewing. Let’s not forget all those PuB NiGHTS! Always the only sober one there :).  During the last few months we managed to get a steady group of people to come to the PuB NiGHT. We went from not having a regular pub and 5 people attending to the Blarney Stone as ‘ our’ PuB and having 20 people attending! Thanks guys for making the PuB NiGHT a big success.

I especially enjoyed the trip I went on to the Rockies, with 11 of our candidates. We had a blast on that trip. If you haven’t been to the Rockies yet, I highly recommend to go with Moose, or West Trek on their amazing trip to the Rockies! You will see some of the most amazing mountains, waterfalls and get to  meet some pretty great people! Just come by the office and we can book the trip of a lifetime for you!

I hope everyone that is here in Vancouver will come to the Cambie tonight at 6.30 to have a celebratory last drink! But even though it will be my last drink as part of the INTERNeX team, I will be in Vancouver for 2 weeks more, just relaxing and doing some sightseeing!

Thanks everyone for making my time at INTERNeX unforgettable! And thanks to our Dungeon Troll – Simon – for putting up with me trying to learn all I can about ‘ all that computer’ stuff!

My birthday dinner

Hi everyone,

Yesterday was my birthday and I decided to celebrate by going out for dinner. Laura and me met up with a couple of people that i met here in Vancouver. We met them through other INTERNeX events and we have been hanging out ever since.

I really wanted a find nice restaurant that had something to eat for everyone. So I looked, and looked, and looked some more but it was worth it because the restaurant we went to was amazing.  When we were walking to the restaurant my first impression was not a good one. The restaurant’s name, which was Kingston Taphouse & Grill, was spelled out in neon lettering. But I learnt that you shouldn’t judge a book, or restaurant for that matter, on it’s cover. As soon as we walked in the restaurant, I loved it. It was very quiet, has a lot of atmosphere and is so charming.

The waitress later told us that it is usually busy during hockey season and that is it slow when there are not playing. We were with 7 people and when it is busy in a restaurant you can’t really hear everyone, but because it was a slow day we could all talk together.

The food was excellent. I had a steak and it was prepared perfectly. The others had burgers (which looked so good!!), pizza, (this also look jummy) and Laura had kung poa chicken. She asked if it could be nice and spicy and that what she got (maby a bit to spicy!). And even though I was absolutely stuffed and couldn’t possibly eat anything else, I had to have a birthday cake. So I ordered a cheesecake, with a candle. I was very good but I had to have help from everyone to eat it. I had my very first strawberry daiquiri. I am a non-alcoholic drinker (yes I know, weird!) and I was surprised that I liked it.

The waitress was very friendly and the service was good. If you are looking for a nice place to go out for dinner I really recommend this place.

For more information see their website

After dinner I said goodbye to everyone and went with another friend to the Chinese markets on Keefer street, downtown Vancouver.  It was a very small market but it was very nice, there was lots of food stalls, cellphone stalls and there was even a live band. It consisted of two people singing a song of which they probability did not know the text as they were reading it as they went. They could also use a singing lesson or two because it was not very good. But it was very funny to watch.

I had a great birthday, thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated with me.
