How was the weekend?

Wet and cold. This past weekend the weather wasn’t really screaming summer, but to be fair, we are in Vancouver. On Saturday we had our bike ride through Stanley Park. When I checked the weather report in the morning I was excited because it said it was just going to be cloudy, but I should’ve known better. Pro-tip: Never trust the weather report in Vancouver and always be prepared for rain.

Once we started riding along the seawall it started raining lightly. Not ideal for a nice bike ride, but we were a tough group and nothing was going to stop us from going. En contraire, Beatrice actually told me she likes the rain. And I have to admit, the weather created a moody atmosphere, that suits Canada. The mountains covered in fog, the pine tree tops disappearing in the clouds. It was very peaceful and another good point was that the seawall wasn’t too crowded. We rode along the water and beaches on our right, and the flowers and trees on our left. After we returned our bikes we wanted to reward ourselves! Tatjana had the great idea to get ice cream and it was delicious.

In the evening I met an old friend. Martin from Denmark, once was a candidate at INTERNeX and decided to visit Vancouver again. Of course I had to see him, so we went out for a few drinks at a brewery in Olympic Village. It was really nice to catch up and to hear all about his life in Denmark. He’s now doing fashion photography and his pictures are awesome! Recently he worked with a big fashion company in Europe. I love that INTERNeX connected us years ago and that I got a chance to meet him again. 🙂

The next morning however, I felt the cold wetness in my bones from the day before and I needed to rest. Thankfully a day was enough to make me feel better, so I’m prepared for all the fun things we’ve planned for this week! Tomorrow we are going to watch ‘Top Gun’ at Second Beach in Stanley Park. Meeting is at 8pm, so we get a good spot, plus we have enough time to watch the sunset. 🙂 Wednesday we’ll meet for our beloved pub night, 7pm at Mango’s.

I hope to see you all tomorrow or Wednesday!

Cheers,

Laura 🙂

How was your weekend?

“Lonely. I am so lonely. I have nobody …” dadadadaa. 🎶
Well, I am not that lonely, but still am the only PR-team member left now and I feel as sad as Akon in the song that I just got in your heads. 😉
But let me tell you about my weekend because it was actually not that lonely.

Friday was a great kick-off for the weekend: We finished work earlier but still stayed in the office to enjoy Nadine’s last hours there. We played some games and just chatted for a long time. When we finally managed to call it a day, we went on to BierCraft on Commercial Drive. With a group of around 9 people, we spend Nadine’s last evening in a relaxed, yet fun way. At around 1am we decided to head home. It was sad to say goodbye, but we all knew, that it would just be a goodbye for the moment – we will sure as hell meet again! 😀 – Yeah, Nadine, you signed up for this. ❤

Saturday was just a really calm day for me. I talked to a friend back home in Germany and started to get my stuff sorted and packed. Yeah, soon it’s also time for me to leave – but let’s not get into that right now. So, I did laundry, got my suitcase out of the closet and packed some first things. Basically, stuff that I won’t need for my last time here.

44306759881_524245cb57_nOn Sunday, we had our trip to Bowen Island. I was a little concerned because it looked grey and rainy. Nevertheless, 13 of you showed up and boarded the ferry at Horseshoe Bay with me! Thanks for showing up and enjoying this day. Once we arrived in Snug Cove, we had a short restroom break but started quickly after with our tour around the island. After 30-45 Minutes, I already heard some of you asking for a lunch-break, so I was happy when we finally arrived at the picnic spot. Being fed and ready to hike some more, we made our way around Killarney Lake, enjoyed the views and nature. 42499125010_6a0ac66ce2_nShortly after we finished the round trip around the lake we arrived back in Snug Cove and had to wait for the ferry. While waiting, we bought some locally produced ice-cream, which was just tasted amazingly good! Once we arrived back at Horseshoe Bay, we took the bus back home. I arrived at my place around 6.30pm and was dead and done. Even though we didn’t do much, I felt really exhausted. So, I just collapsed in my bed and called it a day.

I hope you had a good weekend, despite the grey weather. See you on Wednesday for PuB NiGHT at Mahony and Sons!

Candidate Exposé – Daniel Blumhein

My name is Daniel and I am a 20 year old guy from Germany. Currently I am studying economics in a dual way. That means that I study for three months and then work for the next three months.

I found INTERNeX because of my university (DHBW VS). I did a practicum, because I wanted to experience the Canadian work life. I did my practicum at a NGO which tries to establish Tennis in British Columbia. I like it there, because everybody is so kind and chilly. You have to be very communicative. It was part of my university program.

I decided to go to Canada because of the diversity (e.g. landscape). Vancouver is a beautiful city and I liked the high mountains. I was surprised that such a big city can provide you so many different activities (sea, mountains…). I lived in a home stay via INTERNeX. I like the kindness of Canadians.

Daniel

I participated in the activities INTERNeX organized. It’s the best way to meet new people. The first thing I did when I was home was spending time with my family. This trip inspired me to travel more. I am very interested in South America. INTERNeX was very helpful to meet new people, find the practicum and the homestay.

Candidate Exposé – Miriam Herzog

Miriam Herzog4My name is Miriam. I’m 20 years old and I am from Germany. I’m not studying yet but I plan to start in October.

I decided to come to Canada, because I wanted to improve my business English, live abroad again and I heard Vancouver is really pretty. Plus Canada was the only English speaking country from my agency that offered an internship in business.

I really liked INTERNeX. I really felt welcome and appreciate all the work and events they did. I decided to make use of their services because my German agency cooperates with INTERNeX. I did 3 months of internship and 3 months school. I chose it to have better chances when I apply for University. I really liked both.

I didn’t start University yet but some Universities in Germany want you to have some internship experience before you even can apply. It was a useful experience for my career. It’s always good to show some experience you gained abroad.

I stayed for my entire stay at a Homestay. I really liked it. My host parents are both really miriam Herzog (words)nice and I had a lot of nice roommates. During the end I got quite tired of toast, rice, fried chicken, fish and any other kind of Asian food haha, but besides that it was great!

My first impression of Vancouver is that it is multicultural, rainy and a friendly city. Still think that way, but I also think there are lots of homeless people. Overall it is really pretty.

I attend most of the activities organized by Internex. I really liked them. They are really good to make friends, see cool places with cool people and to have lots of fun. I really appreciate all the work of the PR- Team.

During my stay I went hiking, sight seeing, to a hockey game, travelling and so on. Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey, Noth-Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, Joffre Lake and Seattle are places I have been to.

Miriam Herzog3What I like most about my current city is the nature and the pretty places. Some difficulties / challenges I dealt with are the big population of Asian people and the really spreaded language (Mandarin I guess), all the rain and the many homeless people.

The most memorable experience I had here is the Joffre Lake hike and all the nights out with friends as well.

Internex was helpful for me to meet people, see places I didn’t know about and knowing what is going on in the weekend. The first thing I will do when I get back home is eating some good German bread instead of toast all day.
