What to do for dinner…

Who doesn’t love a good dinner once in a while? And if you can just enjoy it without cooking it up yourself – even better, right? So this year’s Dine Out Vancouver Festival is exactly right for you.

Dine Out Vancouver 2014 runs from January 17 – February 2, 2014.

The whole thing is a promotion idea for Vancouver restaurants which want to launch new menus and new dinner ideas. And the customers get to do the test driving!

The participating restaurants offer three-course menus from $18 to $38 per person and since this festival takes part throughout the city, it is the perfect chance for you to dine out in a different neighborhood than usual. And it’s really easy to make a reservation. Just visit their website, look up the menus and make your choice online (starting January 5).

Have fun imagining the endless creative yummy possibilities 🙂

INTERNeX Canada: Smart Saver Vancouver

Moving to an office located in a mall  can be an advantage for example when you find very nice restaurants and deals. (I know is pretty hard not to buy anything when you love to shop or so), but today I’m gonna tell you about a few interesting things I’ve found in Tinseltown – International Village.

It’s true that we have inside of Tinseltown a lot of cheap places where you can eat a huge variety of food: from Chinese to Mexican, all of them cheap and nice food but there are a few places that I specially recommend.

The first one is for lovers of Asian food: There is a restaurant called “Zen Kenit” in the second floor , where you can get a “all you can eat lunch” for $9.95. (This all you can eat mixes Asian cuisine, for example Chinese, and also Sushi) For the price the quality is really good, so it’s forth it !!

But if you don’t like Asian cuisine, I’ve found  another interesting offer for you. Quite close to the first Asian restaurant that I’ve told you there is a Mexican one called “TacoTime“.

In this nice restaurant every Tuesday the taco costs just $0.99 (You can choose between taco meat, or a veggie one). I’m pretty sure that this deal in unbeatable.

I hope you can try these amazing restaurants, and I wish you a great week!

Best,

Mercedes

INTERNeX Canada: Culture Shock

I arrived here (almost) two months ago, and I still confused about tipping. We’ve talked about this “culture shock” in the past, but more about how shocking is for us. So this post is for all that people who still feel fear when the person behind the counter is smiling while you take your wallet.

– As you know, tips (or gratuity) are not included in the bill.

– You have to tip between the 10% and 20% of the bill (without taxes). Normally is 15%.

– If you still have problems to calculate the exactly amount, remember: (the bill x 15/100). I know that a lot of people are going to say, “Oh, come on, everybody knows that”. But,  not. Believe me.

– If you pay with credit card, you have to put how much do you want to tip, or the employee will do it by himself.

– In restaurants and bars, if you are a big group (usually 8 people or more) the tip is included in the bill.

– In a pub or restaurant, there used to be a waiter or waitress (most of the times) in charge of your table. You always have to order to the same waitress.

– Sometimes, the waitress can give you the bill each time that you order. This is maybe because she’s afraid that you leave without pay (specially in a big group). And yes, you have to tip every time.

Why do you have to tip? The salary of waiters is a little lower than the rest, so they always apply for the job with the tips in mind.

Where we have to tip? Restaurants and pubs, taxis, hairdressers, beauticians.

Where we don’t have to tip? Restaurants like McDonalds or Tim Hortons.

What happens if I decide to don’t tip? Watch your food and better don’t come back.

Cheers,

Clara.

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend?

Another monday, and another started week. I hope your weekend was awesome.

This Sunday, we wanted to hike out. The Grouse Mountain was the chosen place.

We wanted to go so bad, but unfortunately at around 8:00 a.m. started raining cats and dogs, and we had to postpone because we were afraid of a terrible rain during our hiking.

So we decided to go for lunch at  Tampopo, a “all you can eat” sushi restaurant in Denman Street, quite close to English Bay. It was an amazing lunch with wonderful views. The restaurant was located in a 2nd floor and we could see the ocean from there.

The weather changed and it turned into a sunny and wonderful day. So after our lunch, we decided to go to English bay and in our way we stopped to buy ice-creams and some frapuccinos.

It was full of people enjoying the nice weather, and we could talk and lie in the grass. We enjoyed the sun and the company. It was a very nice day.

I should admit i think I won’t be able to understand the weather in Vancouver: It rains during an hour, and suddenly the sky clears up and you can enjoy the beach. It’s amazing, isn’t it ??

Next time, I’ll hike the Grouse mountain whether it’s raining or not, because Van is unpredictable.

Best,

Mercedes
