What to do on the weekend?

TGIF! It is almost weekend and instead of today’s weather, the weekend is going to be great, so you can start planning outdoor activities again! To give you some inspiration, we lined up a few events that you could go to.

When summer arises, festivals do too and there is one you should definitely check out this weekend: the Surrey Fusion Festival. You have to catch the skytrain for a bit to Holland Park, but that is all worth it since this is a FREE festival. It showcases and celebrates the cultural diversity of Surrey and features 70 performances on 4 stages over two days. Besides that you can enjoy food from around the world and as cherry on top: Nelly Furtado is the headliner.

If you want to take it more slowly, you can also go to the Summer Jam at Trout Lake. This is a community event where people can chill and jam around and bring their own food and drinks for a nice and relaxing day.

Want to go back in time? Go to the Rio Theatre and sing-a-long with John Travolta in the famous movie musical: Grease. They have lyrics on the screen, treat bags and even a costume contest! You can either go tonight or on Saturday night. Doors open at 6.30pm and the movie will start at 7.30pm.

Just looking for a day at the beach? You might want to go to Kitsilano Pool then. This giant saltwater pool is right at Kits Beach, which gives you a great lookout over the city! After your swimming day you can stroll straight into Local for some refreshing drinks. This is a nice bar with a big patio right above Kitsilano Pool, so a great place to end your afternoon.

I hope you all have a great weekend with lots of sunshine and I hope to see you all again on Wednesdays PuB NiGHT!

What to do on the weekend?

It is already Friday again, which means we will provide some tips for you on what to do on the weekend! Since we already experienced our weekly event at the Canucks Hockey game, you will need to make some plans by yourself for this weekend. With these tips we hope you will still get the best out of it!

We did not have the best weather last week, but maybe you already noticed the sun goes down later and later, which means… SPRING is coming! And when you say spring it is time for some flea markets. The Eastside Flea is starting of this weekend in the Ellis Building at 1024 Main Street. They have over 50 local vendors, food trucks, a live deejay, seasonal drink specials, pinball and many more. The Flea market will be held every other weekend and you can enjoy them on Friday from 6 to 10 pm and Saturday & Sunday from 11 to 5 pm.

For the fast deciders: on Saturday Insomnia is striking down in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum. With a killer line-up, including Hardwell and Laidback Luke, this will definitely be a party you wouldn’t forget. But if you want to be surprised and still want to have a good night out, it is also a great idea to join the Insomnia afterparty! These tickets are way cheaper and you will still get a great experience with surprising acts. You can find all the information at solidevents.ca.

But bare in mind that this Saturday night out would be a short ride, since the clocks are changing! Remember when I said spring? Well, spring is coming fast now since we will set the clocks one hour forward and enjoy longer daylight from now on.

There will be something riotheatregreat to do on Sunday as well. Remember the big failure of this years Oscars? Well where they definitely didn’t make a mistake was at the nomination for Oscars Best Picture “Lion”. Director Garth Davis’s film tells the story of an Australian man who finds his long-lost family in India with the help of Google Earth. You can watch this beautiful story at the Rio Theatre at 3.30 pm. This theatre was built in 1938 and has been fully restored with a state of the art digital projector, surround sound, comfortable brand new luxury seats and a huge stage for live events. A great catch for some Sunday afternoon chillings! You will find all the information at riotheatre.ca.

Besides all these activities, in March there is also the Vancouver International Dance Festival, which is definitely worth checking out. With a wide variety of dancers and styles and beautiful combinations like b-boys with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, this will definitely be a great activity for your weekend.

For the skiers and snowboarders here, the snow is still going strong so if you want to have fun on the mountain that is still possible! I will be at Cypress tomorrow and you are always welcome to join and hit some slopes!

Have a great weekend and I hope to see all of you again at PuB NiGHT this Wednesday.

What to do on the weekend

It’s weekend again, and time to get out and experience some of the various great activities that Vancouver has to offer. But you might ask yourself… well here’s a couple of suggestions to help you out.

Friday

On Fridays the Rio Theatre offers you the cool opportunity to experience or perhaps reexperience good old movie classics/cult movies. This Friday, September 5th, the Rio Theatre shows the good old action packed Terminator 1 and 2 movies. The doors open at 8:45pm and the first movie starts at 9:15. The second movie starts at 11:30pm and the doors open at 11:00pm. You can of course also choose to watch both movies. A single ticket is 8$ at the entrance but you can get it for 6$ if you purchase it in advance. A double ticket cost 13$ at the entrance or you can purchase in advance and get the tickets for 10$. Rio Theatre is located at 1660 East Broadway, Vancouver close to Commercial-Braodway Station. Click here for more information on Rio Theatre.

Saturday

On Saturday you should of course join INTERNeX for stand up paddling at Granville Island. This will definitely be a fun experience! The forecast says awesome weather, so get out and enjoy the sun while it’s here.

Sunday

After a challenging hike up the Grouse grind you might want to do something more relaxing. Perhaps you want to be very early with your Christmas shopping this year… Visit the Porto Bello Market. Here you’ll also support local designers, producers and artists. You can also listen to live music while you do your shopping. At the the market you can buy fashion clothing, jewelry, various pieces of art (for instance photography art) etc. The market takes place in Creekside Recreation Centre in the Olympic Village. You can get more information about the market here.

Hope you’ll all have a nice and enjoyable weekend, and don’t forget to sign up for the dodge ball tournament happening on Monday, September 8th. You can sign up through Facebook here. Also remember to sign up for our fun and exciting laser tag event here.

INTERNeX Canada: Smart Saver Vancouver!

Hey y’all

After learning about how to travel around North America on a small budget , today’s new episode of our Smart Saver is all about my passion concerning good movies and food!

Don’t we all know that sometimes even the simple things in life – like a good movie with friends and chatting away while snacking in a nice bar – can be frustratingly expensive? However, I do not want to choose the most popular alternative: Sitting in front of my computer, watching some show I’ve had on my hard drive for ages! So this week, I had a little look around and found some places that still offer us the possibility to have fun night out with friends.

The RIO Theatre plays recent movies as well as some lovely old classics and also hosts several live events. On Fridays, they offer Midnight Cult Classics, which are spiced up by live hosts and a pre show entertainment program. If you dress up in costume for these, you will get 1$ off the 8$ ticket! Apart from that, they also have CHEAP DATE Mondays and Tuesdays on which tickets are only 6$ !!! I think those are quite some amazing deals.

And of course, the food shouldn’t be neglected here, nobody wants to sit through a movie with an empty stomach. So you might consider going to the Metropole Community Pub in 320 Abbott St. They offer a 6.50 $ burger + beer deal every day and are generally supposed to have the cheapest food and drinks in town. So if you are looking for a casual place to hang out and get something to eat before hitting the RIO, this could be your place.

See y’all soon,

Annika
