Candidate Exposé – Roslyn Campbell

Hello from Scotland 🙂 Let’s say hey to our previous candidate Roslyn from Stirling in Scotland.
She is 26 years old and currently working as an administrator for a charity.

When being in Canada for holidays in 2013 she absolutely felt in love with this beautiful country – so she decided to go back as soon as possible. Since she wanted to have some time for looking for a job and exploring the world after graduating, her practicum in Vancouver was the best opportunity for her.
She stayed around 6 months (or as she said, the best time of her life 😉 ).

During this time she volunteered at an environmental charity where she primarily worked as an eco friendly social media intern with tasks like promotion and trying to get more people involved in an eco friendly living. She really enjoyed her time being in a small team of only 5 people who were really friendly, understanding and able to teach her so many new insights which have been very useful for her current work position. The best thing about this time for the future was definitely that through this job, her work experience and the beneficial feedback she got hired in her current job 🙂 Additionally, through the companies’ great trust in her she became more independent and started to get experience working in an office environment for the first time. She also improved her social media skills which are certainly important to have in these times.

Since she had a work permit she also had the chance to earn some money as well as intercultural experiences while working in a restaurant.

I asked her what the first impression was after arriving in Vancouver. She just said it was overwhelming but since she has family there it was much easier to find her way in this new environment. However, from the first moment she was certain that she made the right decision choosing this place for her international experience. For her the definitely best memory was the weekend getaway to Salt Spring Island staying in a small chalet in the middle of nowhere with new friends from all over the world. Sounds like a really fun time.

She also enjoyed Vancouver’s nightlife including the INTERNeX pubnights as well as a trip to Seattle, Whistler and the many days spent in Stanley Park. She already recommended INTERNeX to one of her friends who already stayed in Canada with us. For her the support was really beneficial to make friends, have more fun and experience new places better than alone. To conclude this report on her experience, Roslyn described her stay as wonderful, insightful, beautiful and in a good way completely overwhelming.

Thank you Roslyn for sharing your Canada experience with us 🙂

Enjoy your day 🙂

How was your weekend?

Living in a house on an island in the middle of nowhere with an awesome group of people. Far away from the big city life, any Starbucks, McDonalds and Skytrain stations. But close to trees, birds and the sea. Sounds crazy? It was!

Everyone found the way to the ferry terminal of Tsawwassen on Friday afternoon, ready to start this adventure. The award for the biggest luggage goes to… Bart (who carried our food)! Two hours on the water passed by quickly with fun stories until we arrived on Salt Spring Island. Let’s get back to nature! That is exactly the feeling I had when we drove to our house. Hidden between the trees, we found our accommodation for the weekend. A huge wooden house with everything you could wish for: a big kitchen, a cozy living room, bedrooms with a view, luxurious bathrooms and all this surrounded by a terrace with a hot tub. Perfect! Once everyone explored the house, we settled in and prepared delicious spaghetti. With full bellies, the evening could start off with games and drinks. After a few exhausting games, it was time to relax. What could be a better spot to rest than a hot tub? Well, it was quite ‘cozy’ with 12 people in one hot tub and definitely fun! What a great night!

Salt Spring week 6

Rise and shine, the next day started. The sunshine outside promised a lovely day. For some, it was harder to get out of the bed than for others, but we all managed. After we strengthened ourselves with breakfast, we explored the island with a small hike. We walked through a park where we spotted some fairytale doors in the trees and had a nice view over the forests of Salt Spring Island. We ended up having lunch in a park next to the city center of Ganges, a cute place with lovely stores.

The next activity was a tasting of Salt Spring’s famous Wild Cider. Surrounded by nature, we learned more about ciders and we tried ten different kinds, from dry to sweet ones. The sun was shining, so we could even take off our jackets. Back at the house, it was already time for dinner. The burgers were quickly prepared and even quicker eaten. The night continued with driving a bus, destroying the circle of death or trying to get plastic balls into cups.

Salt Spring week 6-2.jpgWhat a lovely view I had when waking up on Sunday: trees and sun! The view inside of the house was not that promising, as the last night left its traces. But as teamwork makes the dream work, the living room was soon shining again. So, Sunday started off easy with some fresh pancakes and fun stories of last night. Lucky as we were, we could get two of the three taxis that are available on the island. This time, the sun deck on the ferry earned its name and we could enjoy beautiful views on the way back to Vancouver.

I really had a good time with you and I am already looking forward to our next trip to the Rockies. See you on Wednesday to share all the fun stories of the weekend during our PuB NiGHT.

Ready for Salt Spring Island?

It is already this weekend! The countdown is on! The next INTERNeX trip to Salt Spring Island is just about to start. I hope you are already as excited as I am. Here is the last information to get ready for the trip.

We are meeting on Friday at 2.30pm at the ferry terminal in Tsawwassen. To get there, you can take the Canada Line to Bridgeport Station and then the bus 620. It will take you about 1.5 hours from downtown, so keep that in mind. We will check in on the ferry and enjoy a few hours ride on the sea. Once we arrived on Salt Spring Island, we are going to settle in in our house and make ourselves comfortable. Dinner and games are on the programme for the night. So if you have any fun games, please take them with you!

Saturday, we are going to start off the day with an awesome breakfast. With enough energy, we will depart for a hike or for a visit in a cider tasting room. After spending the whole day in nature, it is time to relax in the hot tub or on the terrace. Burgers will be on the menu this night, before we continue with some games.

Oh and by the way, the house you see in the background here is the real one!

After a relaxed breakfast on Sunday, we will pack our luggage again and head to the ferry. We will be back in Tsawwassen at around 5pm. You might wonder what to put in your luggage for a weekend on an island. Most important: warm shoes and clothes in which you can hike well, games for the nights and bathing clothes (for the hot tub). You do not need to bring any bed sheets with you. Since are travelling by public transport, make sure that you can carry your luggage easily.

I am already looking forward to a great weekend! If you have any more questions, I am happy to help.

See you tonight at the Beaver Bar!
