Smart Saver Vancouver

While the weather is still good, we should still have fun in the sun. But we can all understand that the summer may have been a bit expensive, that’s why we lined up some things that you can do while the weather is still nice and won’t cost you a fortune.

If you not have visited Kits Swimming Pool it is definitely something that you have to do while the sun is still shining now. The view is amazing because it is really close to Kitsilano Beach and the water is salt instead of chlorine.

36466824995_7499d6ccbc_zIf you want something more energetic and active you can also go for a paddleboard rental. Ecomarine has a lot of locations to rent a paddle-board.

Something that will cost you no money is doing a hike around the beautiful Stanley Park. Stanley Park is 400 hectares of gorgeous nature which makes it the largest park in North America. Stanley Park is surrounded by the seawall, which makes it special to go there for a hike.

Another thing, which won’t cost you any money, is visiting Dr.Sun Yat-Sen Park. This park has elements of a Chinese garden.

And if you feel like you just want to relax and enjoy the sun, Vancouver is offering a lot of beautiful beaches like Kitsilano Beach, English Bay, Jericho Beach and many more. Here you can take a refreshing dip into the water or soak up some sun.

I hope you all enjoy the last bit of summer here in Vancouver and we are looking forward to see you tomorrow at the PuB NiGHT.

Smart Saver Vancouver

It is a sunny Wednesday, which means we are going to save money again! In this Smart Saver I will give you examples of student discounts, like some of you I am still a student and you can have quite a few benefits from owning a student card.

spscardLike many cities in the world, Vancouver has a student discount card. Meet the SPC card, a card you can obtain if you are a student, which gives you 10 to 15% off on most of the popular brands like: Forever 21, Blenzz, Taco Bell, Levi’s, Bath & Body Works and PINK by Victoria Secret. You can get the card for only $10 by registering online at spccard.ca.  To see where you can save some money, they have a very handy app where you can see the best deals. The card is only usable during school periods so if you sign up now, you have awesome deals till July 31st.

Do you want to discover Vancouver on another level? Seair Seaplanes offers beautiful sightseeing flights to nice destinations. And even better; they have student discounts. For example, you can already do some sightseeing in the air from Vancouver to Vancouver Island for $74.58.

Rather not travel by plane? Greyhound offers transportation by bus and gives students discounts of 10 percent or more, this will depend on where you go though, but the offer is there!

But if you are looking for some fun in and around Vancouver, these student offers could also be quite helpful:

  • Vancouver aquarium for $27 instead of $36
  • Science World for $18.50 instead of $23.25
  • Vancouver Art Gallery for $18 instead of $24
  • Capilano Suspension Bridge for $32.95 instead of $39.95

Did you read all of this but you don’t have a student card? Don’t be sad, we come up with great deals every Wednesday! And if you are going to do groceries always check the weekly flyer for the best deals.urbanown

One last tip: do you like Urban Outfitters as much as I do? I discovered that if you create an account in their app you get 10% off on your first purchase! After that you will get other great deals in the app. A bonus for the students; at Urban Outfitters you get 10% off with the SPC card as well!

Hope to see you tonight at the Distillery!

Smart Saver Vancouver

As Vancouver can be quite expensive, we would like to help you save money during your stay in Vancouver. Every Wednesday we are going to write about special offers, cheap areas and special events, so you can get the best out of your stay.

Currently, there is an amazing event taking place in Vancouver, called Dine Out Vancouver festival. This is a yearly event which takes place from the 20th of January 2017 till the 5th of February 2017. During this festival you can eat at a lot restaurants for a fixed price. All restaurants create a new menu for Dine Out from which you can choose your courses. There are three different prices offered, you can get meals for $20, $30 or $40 dollar (excluding tax). For this price you get a total of at least three different courses. As it is only the 25th of January, there is still plenty of time to go out for dinner in one of the greatest restaurants of Vancouver. However, keep in mind that some of the restaurants do not take any reservations during Dine Out and it will be busier as well. Even though this could cause a waiting time, this event gives you the opportunity to dine at a more expensive restaurant and is therefore definitely worth to check it out.

Last Monday, we celebrated my birthday and there is one big thing that I noticed. Vancouver is a great city to celebrate your birthday in, as you can get lots 16237741_10208101304591363_27716976_nof things for free. In order to get those free gifts and meals, you mostly need to sign up for a free membership or an email list. In the morning you can get a free breakfast at Denny’s. If you have not had enough breakfast yet, you can also score a breakfast at IHOP. After that you can start shopping free gifts. You can, for example, get free gifts at Sephora and Old Navy. Do you prefer to get a coffee instead of hanging around in the mall? By signing up for the Starbucks gift card online, you can get a drink for free. Finish your day with a free dinner at, for example, La Casita or Red Robin. As a meal is not complete without a dessert, you should get your free dessert at Boston Pizza or Marble Slab Creamery. There are a lot more places for free gifts that can make your birthday as enjoyable as possible.

One thing that you may have noticed already, is that food is not really cheap in a place like Vancouver. Especially brands such as Coca Cola are expensive? mostly not affordable. Therefore, this offer really stood out for us. At the moment, you can get three bottles of Coca Cola at the London Drugstore for $4. If you prefer to drink brands as these, this offer can save you a lot of money.

Hopefully, these tips will help you save some money because the more you save, the more you can do!

Smart Saver

It’s Sunday again and that means of course SMART SAVER TIME! This time we found some Thrift stores for you, where you can save a lot of money. One of my favourite is the Thrift store called Wildlife and the store is located 1295 Granville Street (near the Granville Bridge). Check out the website from the Wildlife store 🙂

At the Thrift store you can find really cheap things such as cloth, jewellery or furniture. And the best thing is if you by something you donate a charity organization as well. Have a look and maybe you find amazing things there.

Of course there are some more Thrift stores here in Vancouver, most of them are on Main Street and Commercial.

Have fun on your next shopping day 🙂

Smart Saver Vancouver

It’s time for another great Smart Saver this Sunday. This time we picked out two stores where you can save a lot of money.

First of all we start with the Army and Navy Store on Cordova St. This store is one of the oldest in Vancouver and has been there for ages. The Army and Navy Store is not only a place to buy clothes and furniture, but it’s also worth a visit when you are searching for cheap food and drinks. You can get there a whole package of Chocolate Cockies for $1.50 or a cold drink for $1-2. The next time that you are in downtown make a short stop at this awesome place!

The next store is called Sport Junkies and it’s located on 102 West Broadway. At Sport Junkies you can get really cheap outdoor cloth and equipment. Also you can try to sell your winter jacket and all the other winter stuff you have there. Their have an amazing collection of running shoes, hiking shoes and much more. Check it out.

We hope you all had an awesome After Rockies Party and we will see you all on Wednesday for another fun PuB NiGHT.
