How was your weekend?

Mond… uh, Tuesday again. That means weekend is over and back to normal life. We could enjoy one extra day off because of thanksgiving. A day I spent well. If you are curious about what I did this weekend, keep reading and you will find out.

We celebrated Thanksgiving a little earlier than the rest of Canada. On Friday we went to White Spot to have diner together. For me a thanksgiving diner is not complete without turkey, so turkey it was. After we finished our meals, we took the bus to Granville to continue the night in the Yale Saloon. We learned how to line dance and we rode a bull. Yale saloon is a fun place where I will definitely go back again.

This weekend I also did the Grouse Grind. Man, what a lot of stairs! It took us 1 hour and 8 minutes to get to the top. We enjoyed some food with a nice view. When we finished our food we went to the bears and saw the Lumberjack show. Afterwards we ate something at the Warehouse and we closed the day in the Bourbon.

On thanksgiving we rented a boat on Granville Island. We drove past the Lighthouse Park and Bowen Island all the way to Anvil Island. We saw a lot of seals laying on the rocks. Despite driving a boat was harder than I thought, it was a very relaxing day. I hope you all had a weekend as fun as mine and I see you at PuB NiGHT tomorrow!

What to do at the weekend

Finally weekend again and time to visit some more amazing places, that Vancouver has to offer. Here are some suggestions for you.

Friday

On Friday evening the Italian Night Market offers you the opportunity to have a look at some Italian focused demonstration, such as Olive Oil Tastings and Pasta Making. You can visit the Market every third Friday of the month from 3-7 pm. They have a great selection of foods, craft and entertainment. The market will be placed  at Il Centro Italian Cultural Centre on East 12th Ave & Slocan near Renfrew Sky Train station. If you’re tired of all the sushi here in Vancouver, go and eat some Italian food at Italian Night Market.

Saturday

On Saturday you should join INTERNeX for the visit to Queen Elizabeth Park. The park is one of the highlights of any visit to Vancouver. You’re able to catch amazing views over the city, just relax or play Frisbee and other fun games.Sign up for this event here.
So let’s go out and enjoy the sun while it’s still here.

Sunday

A second highlight, you shouldn’t miss, is Bowen Island. It’s just a 20-minute ferry ride from the Horseshoe Bay Terminal in West Vancouver. The ticket for the ferry is $11,65. You’re probably able to see some seals during the ride. On Bowen Island there are many opportunities to go hiking or biking. Make sure that you’ll hike up to the Dorman Point. It’s just a 2.5 km hike and takes about 1.5 hours. The Dorman Point offers nice views of Whytecliffe Park in West Vancouver and the University of British Columbia( UBC). If you don’t like hiking, you’re also able just to relax at the very nice beaches on Bowen Island.
Go and visit Bowen Island to enjoy the last rays of the sun.

We wish you a sunny and enjoyable weekend.

Picture of the week – Lighthouse Park

It’s time for the picture of the week! A couple of weeks ago I went to the Lighthouse Park (West Vancouver) together with our former candidate Regula. It was one of the first warm days and an incredible sunset was awaiting us as we climbed over the rocks to get to the shore.

We had a beautiful view over the ocean up until Vancouver Island.

And believe it or not…We even spotted a group of whales and seals! Something we did not expect at all!

If you would also like to experience the great view from the rocks, the silence and the wildlife, take bus #250 Horseshoe Bay!

And don’t forget to send us your picture of the week! 😉

Cheers,

Ziska

Victoria Weekend Trip!

This weekend was great! I went to Vancouver Island for the weekend. I wanted to do something special again and my housemate Sinnika was excited about it as well. A lot of new people arrived last week at the INTERNeX staffhouse and we asked them if they would like to join us. So on Saturday morning we left the house early and we were with 8 people.

The Journey
We left the house at 11 am. We took a bus to a skytrain station and took the skytrain to Bridgeport Station. From there the bus goed to Tsawwassen, where the real journey begins, the ferry! The ferry is really nice, you can go on the deck and you will see a lot of different islands. The ferry also has places where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner. After 1,5 hour we arrived at Swartz Bay. From Swartz Bay there goes an express (bus 620) to Victoria.

The Hostel
We stayed in the Hostelling International. We had a room just for us! It is really affordable and it is a nice place. Usually there are a lot of young people in a hostel but all the people we saw were around 50 years, still it is a good place for young people. The hostel has an area with a pool table and you can play table soccer. The hostel is on a perfect location in downtown!

The experience
We walked around Victoria for an hour and after that we decided to have dinner. We went to Earls, they have a lot of different things and it’s not that expensive. After the dinner we went to the hostel again. We played some pool, table soccer, board games and had some drinks. We were ready to party! There are a lot of things where you can go to and almost everything is within walking distance from the hostel. We decided to go to Upstairs. It’s a nice club with good party music but unfortunately the atmosphere can be a little bit aggressive. After the club closed we went to Pita Pit to have some food and went to the hostel again. I had a good sleep!

The second day we left the hostel to do some sightseeing. We saw the Parliament, the harbor, a really expensive hotel and we went to China Town and Fisherman’s Wharf. Fisherman’s Wharf is a really cool place. There are houseboats and we even saw seals!

After a great weekend we went back (with the ferry!) to our home far away home, the staffhouse.
If you are interested to go to Victoria or you want some more information, just send an email to pr@internexcanada.com!

Cheers,

Elvera
