Smart Saver Vancouver

Is it just me, or are the prices of new books CRAZY in Vancouver? I went to Chapters the other day to buy the good ol’ classic “The Great Gatsby” and I left the store dishing out $22.00 for a thin paperback. I was pretty upset about this and realized that I had just gotten ripped off. So I decided from now on I opt for other (cheaper) options for getting my reading material.

For this week’s Smart Saver I want to shed light on an alternative to big box bookstores that often feel inauthentic and lack the culture and charm that true bookstores should feel like. I have found several stores around Vancouver, which offer a substitute that is much more reasonable and provides the rich experience that should be involved when buying a book.

All of the following are second-hand bookstores, selling gently used books at discounted prices. The thing that attracted me to the concept of second-hand bookshops is the fact that they all offer book trading. Most people read a book once and then it sits on their bookshelf for eternity. This is when book trading comes in handy! These stores accept used books in good condition for resale, most of them will offer you around 40-50% of the earnings they will make on re-selling your book and it will go towards store credit. So for all you book lovers out there, why not take some of your slightly-used books to one of these shops and buy some novels at a cost that your wallet will appreciate

If anyone is interested in checking out one of these stores, here are all of the contact details.
