What to do on the weekend?

Look how fast time flies by! It’s already the last weekend of August. Say whaaaaat? Time to select a Halloween costume and start your Christmas shopping. Happy New Year, everybody! (Yea, that’s from a meme I saw earlier, I’m not that original)
But let’s have a look together on what is going on in Vancity this weekend, shall we?

OH! Vancouver. OH! Vancouver? If you don’t remember this name from last year, then let me explain what it is: OH! Vancouver is an installation that lets you control the lights at Science World. Yes, you read that right. You have the chance to actually control all those little bulbs of the Vancouver monument. But hurry up, today (24 August) is your last chance to do so. Go to Olympic Village Seawall – 1 Athletes Way between 9:30pm and 11:30pm and enjoy the fun!

Shoe-shopaholics, this is for you: TOMS has a big warehouse sale from now until Sunday, August 26. Where? At Richmond Olympic Oval – 6111 River Road. Over 30,000 pairs of shoes will be discounted. Some items are even 70% off. Sweet! This is something for everyone: women, men, kids and babies can benefit from this awesome offer!

On Sunday, there is a Full Moon Morning Beach Party. A party, in the morning? Yes, because this party is all about partying for wellness and community, hosted by Party4Health. The goal is to get high on each other, not on alcohol nor drugs. Admission is free and you get to enjoy your time there from 9am until 12pm.

So, your morning activity on Sunday is covered. Time for more good times in the afternoon! Luckily, there is the Sunday Afternoon Salsa at Robson Square. At 3pm and 7pm, you have the chance to participate in beginner dance lessons. And at 5pm, you can watch the professionals giving their performances. Admission for this event is free too. Fun times ahead in Vancity, I guess.

I wish you a great weekend and hope you’ll join to Bowen Island this Sunday!

INTERNeX Canada: Grouse Mountain records!

Good afternoon everybody, how is your week going so far? The weather isn’t that good as it was last week right now but perfect for a long working day I guess.

I live in a homestay close to Rupert Park where you have a perfect view of all the surrounding mountains. So last week, I asked my homestay family about climbing those mountains. There must be some awesome views of downtown Vancouver..

They told me that the Grouse Mountain can be seen as a challenge for the Canadian people living around Vancouver. From the base to the top it’s around 1,5 hour climbing for a normal fit person (Grouse Grind Hike). However, most Canadian people want to make it a more challenging thing. Every year they want to break there own record going to the top. You can even buy a card that will record your time to the top! But for us as students, the time of the walk to the top doesn’t matter that much..

When you are on the summit of Grouse Mountain (1127 meter) you have some beautiful views of the city of Vancouver. On clear days you can see as far as the border with the United States! In other words, it’s defiantly worth the climb guys. And if you are tired of the walk you can choose to take the tram back down. But if you want it cheap trust only on your feet. 😉

So the next time when the weather is clear and good again, grab your walking shoes and prepare yourself for a good workout!

I’m going to do it too sometime!
Have a great week!

Cheers,

Jelle

Smart Saver Vancouver

Guys and (especially) Gals, it’s that time of year again! The summer sales have begun. Walking down Granville street or Robson street puts a big smile on my face now because I can actually start to give in to my temptations and treat myself to some retail therapy 😉

H&M SALES!

H&M has always been one of my favorite stores. It’s cheap, trendy and it’s filled with must-haves. Even though it’s already quite affordable, sometimes I have to hold myself back from buying that one more expensive blazer. Sales go up to 70% off here; it’s enough to make anyone smile from ear to ear. Why don’t you check out the H&M on Granville & W Georgia St, there are still a lot of items on the shelves and the prices keep getting lower and lower.

PAYLESS SHOESOURCE!

Need some new sandals for the summer? Right now at all the payless shoesource stores they are offering a great deal. Buy one, get one 50% off. It is incredibly difficult to walk into that store and not want to buy a pair of new shoes; they a great selection of sandals of gorgeous heels.

AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS!

This Robson St store offers sales for both male and female clothing so watch out boys! At the moment there is a wide selection of casual shirts, vests, pullovers, shorts and jeans going for 50% off. Need a new summer wardrobe? Now’s the time to upgrade.

There are plenty of other stores that have started their sales so keep an eye out when you’re on your way home from work/school. Pop inside for a quick peek, you’ll be surprised what you’ll find.

Happy shopping everyone!

Cheers,

Lies

Winter is coming, take advance now!

Are you planning to be around for the winter? Looking to do some skien or snowboarding this winter? Than make sure you buy your winter passes now! Most Ski resorts have a early bird special, meaning if you buy your winter pass now you’ll save big bucks!

Snow rarely falls in the city, yet living in Vancouver gives you the chance to enjoy some of the best downhill and cross-country ski facilities in North America.

With mountains such as Grouse Mountain, Cypress and Mount Seymour, just outside Vancouver residents and tourists can hardly resist the urge to strap on snowboards, skis or snow shoes throughout the winter months.  Two hours north of Vancouver are the mountains Whistler and Blackcomb. The first mountain you might recognize as the host of the Olympics, Blackcomb is the neighbor mountain and since the opening of the Peak- Peak gondola it is easily accessible for all ski and snowboard fans!

Click on the following links to find out more about the ski mountains and their season passes:

I wish I was still here when the winter starts, so I can ski one of these beautiful mountains! Be sure to get the winterpass soon most Pre-seasons sales close at Sept. 30th!

Grouse Grind Hike with INTERNeX!

With all of the rain we’ve been getting in Vancouver, I’ve been itching to get outside and enjoy the weather. If you’re in Vancouver, you know what I mean. Anyone is welcome to join Manouk and I tomorrow morning as we head to Grouse Mountain to hike their Grouse Grind trail. We will meet inside the Waterfront Station at 10 a.m. and take the sea bus to North Vancouver. From there we will hop on a bus that will take us straight to our destination.

What you will need:

  • Good hiking shoes / running shoes
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Bottle of Water
  • Packed lunch (optional)
  • Money ($10.00 Skyride down the mountain and bus fare OR 2 Zone bus pass)
  • Camera

The Skyride is optional, as you can hike back down the mountain. We can decide this once we get to the top, however the Skyride is a one-mile journey like no other.

High above towering Douglas firs, breathtaking views of the city of Vancouver, sparkling Pacific Ocean, Gulf Islands, and snowy peaks unfold as you journey up the mountainside. North America’s largest aerial tramway is your gateway to the majestic nature of the Peak of Vancouver, and an experience in itself.

Once we get to the top, there are many activities to do if we want to stay and have a few more hours of fun. They have :

You don’t have to bring a packed lunch, but it might be fun to have a little picnic at the top, it’s supposed to be beautiful out tomorrow. There is a few restaurants at the mountain and a Starbucks I believe if you want to buy food instead.

This will be a  fun adventure guys, hope to see you tomorrow at 10 a.m. outside the Waterfront Station!

Can’t make this activity? Join us for pub night at Metropole, June 23!

Cheers and have a great weekend
