It’s only a few days away from Christmas, which means that most of the people will be doing a lot of Christmas shopping right now! But wait there is something much better….. It is the Boxing Day Sales!! Keep on reading to find out how you can save money on some really cool things!

Boxing day is primarily known as a shopping holiday in the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and it’s much like Black Friday in the United States. On this day different kinds of shops will hold sales, often with dramatic price reductions. So to give you a good impression on what kind of deals there are going on right now, here you will find a list of stores that are having Boxing Day sales.

Best Buy

Best Buy is a store where you can buy all kinds of electronics, appliances and more. During Boxing Day, Best Buy will possibly have some really good deals when it comes to cameras, phones, laptops and much more!

Hudson Bay

23427910665_69436eda11_zAlso one of the biggest department stores will have some online and offline Boxing Day Sales. At Hudson Bay you can buy a lot of different things like for example clothing, beauty products, jewellery & accessories, toys and much more. Most of the brands that Hudson Bay is selling are pretty expensive so definitely worth to check this one out if you can maybe find a good deal on that watch that you have always wanted!

Costco

Costco is a big warehouse where you can buy a lot of different things from food to mobiles. The products sold at Costco all come in big bulks since most of the people who shop there own a store or something like that. Costco will have a Boxing week savings beginning on December 26th. Unfortunately you can only visit Costco if you have a membership card.

Also checks out the other department stores like pacific centre and metro town. A lot of shops are located there and will probably have some good deals.

We all wish you a Merry Christmas and we are looking forward to see you for our last PuB NiGHT and the NYE party!

While the weather is still good, we should still have fun in the sun. But we can all understand that the summer may have been a bit expensive, that’s why we lined up some things that you can do while the weather is still nice and won’t cost you a fortune.

If you not have visited Kits Swimming Pool it is definitely something that you have to do while the sun is still shining now. The view is amazing because it is really close to Kitsilano Beach and the water is salt instead of chlorine.

36466824995_7499d6ccbc_zIf you want something more energetic and active you can also go for a paddleboard rental. Ecomarine has a lot of locations to rent a paddle-board.

Something that will cost you no money is doing a hike around the beautiful Stanley Park. Stanley Park is 400 hectares of gorgeous nature which makes it the largest park in North America. Stanley Park is surrounded by the seawall, which makes it special to go there for a hike.

Another thing, which won’t cost you any money, is visiting Dr.Sun Yat-Sen Park. This park has elements of a Chinese garden.

And if you feel like you just want to relax and enjoy the sun, Vancouver is offering a lot of beautiful beaches like Kitsilano Beach, English Bay, Jericho Beach and many more. Here you can take a refreshing dip into the water or soak up some sun.

I hope you all enjoy the last bit of summer here in Vancouver and we are looking forward to see you tomorrow at the PuB NiGHT.

It’s Wednesday, which is the day for Smartsaver! Vancouver is pretty expensive most of the times, but you can save money!

7699686936_3ca42fbb6a_oComing months will be full of sports. FC Whitecaps already started their season and the BC Lions will start soon! If you want to save money on the tickets of the games then there are two options. First of all, Discover Canada Tours and Westtrek offer discounted tickets for almost all games. Secondly, if you go to the Tourism Vancouver Visitors’ Centre on the day of the game you can also save money! They offer “ Tickets Tonight”, which are half-priced tickets on sports games that evening.

Now that the weather is getting better it is time to do some travelling! Boltbus is a bus company which can take you to lots of places in Canada. The bus company offers $1 tickets, but these tickets are really hard to get though. They offer at least one $1 ticket for every trip that they offer. However, the tickets are sold randomly and mostly within the first seats sold. So if you want to get a $1 ticket you have to be on top of their schedule to even have a chance.

Also as the weather is getting better go do free activities in the city! Hiking in one of the parks, going to the beaches or walk through the neighbourhoods of Vancouver can be lots of fun and is free!

Hope to see all of you guys tonight at PuB NiGHT!

Smart Saver Vancouver

Wednesday is almost over, but we still have enough time to save some money!! This week we are going to talk about saving money on transport, especially by car.

First of all, instead of taking public transport or a car it is always way cheaper to walk or go by bike. This is of course not in all cases possible if you don’t live close to work or outside of downtown.

7216872738_072f71e834_o.jpgIf you do want to go by car but you will not use it that often it is expensive to buy a car. A better and cheaper option is to look into companies like Car2Go, ZipCar or Evo. Those companies have a lot of cars around and in Vancouver and you can use them if you have a membership with one of those companies. The idea is just to share the cars and use them whenever you want. Another advantage is that you don’t have to park it at the same spot again, just another Car2Go, ZipCar or Evo parking spot in the city is fine!

When you are going to travel far by car it is a good idea to do a lot of research in the car renting companies. The cheapest way is to have a person that is 25 years old in your group, because then you don’t have to pay the extra fee for younger drivers. If you don’t have someone that is 25 years old it is still affordable to rent a car. There are lots of companies and with good research you can find the cheapest company. In my experience it is cheapest to rent a car at Budget, but sometimes the other companies have great deals too. So always keep that in mind!

I hope you can now save money on your trips, when they are close and/or far. See you guys tonight at PuB NiGHT!

Smart Saver Vancouver

It’s Wednesday again, so let’s save some money! As a student living in Vancouver I don’t have the money to do paid or expensive activities every weekend, but after working five days it’s always nice to do something with the free time. So here are some free or cheap activities to do in Vancouver!

16649173_10208825366053541_8272205474295846796_nVancouver has some amazing places for sightseeing. For example, the most historic sites in Chinatown are free. Walk around the neighbourhood and see the Millennium Gate, the world’s narrowest building and the Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden & Park. Another amazing place to go is Granville Island. It is a beautiful island close to downtown. You can go to the public market, enjoy the art and relax at the river. An extra advantage of going there are the cheap vegetables at the public market, so you can do some sightseeing and save on food at the same time!

16299277_10208652946223153_4290230621236688149_nAnother great activity to do in Vancouver is checking out all the different beaches,  Vancouver has a lot of them. Go to English Bay Beach, Kits Beach, Spanish Banks, Wreck Beach or Jericho Beach to hang out and see the amazing sceneries. If you want to do something more active then do some hiking. Vancouver has a lot of great hiking trails from difficult, like the Grouse Grind, to easier hikes around the lakes. Or go hiking in Lynn Canyon to see the free suspension bridge, which is not as amazing as the paid Capilano Suspension Bridge, but a great alternative for people with smaller budgets.

Last but not least, go to Stanley Park. The park has a lot of walking trails through the forest. Another amazing idea is to bike the Sea Wall at Stanley Park. You will have views of the city, the northern mountains, the Totem Poles and the Lion’s Gate Bridge. If you don’t have a bike, it is pretty cheap to rent one at places close to the park.

I hope to see you all tonight at the Central City Brewpub!

Smart Saver Vancouver

As most of you spent a lot of money during your stay, it might be good to save some money as well. Even though we would like to save money, we still want to do as much as possible. These Smart Savers are the perfect option for some cheap activities.

Tuesday is the time for you to do some activities in Vancouver. Remember when we told you about the discounts on Tuesday at several cinemas? There are lots of free activities on Tuesday as well. Some museums in Vancouver offer free admission on certain days. Vancouver Art Gallery, for example, offers admission by donation on Tuesdays. So if you are really into arts, this is a great opportunity for you to see some.

No time on Tuesday? Then there are still plenty of activities left for you. The GMS observatory is all year round admission by donation as well. It is a place where you can take a look at the stars through a telescope. You can find this attraction next to the Space Centre. Time to let your inner astronaut free! Another option could17091377_10208378125391710_1431619593_o also be the Burnaby Village Museum. This museum is free all year round, so there is plenty of time for you to visit it.

Besides that, the Vancouver Convention Centre offers free guided public tours throughout the year. During the guided tours they will talk about the rooftop, the wood used for the interior and the art exhibits. The place to be for interior designers, I would say. However, they only offer it at select days due to busy activities held in the Convention Centre. Check out their website for more information about their schedule for the public tours!

Lastly, you can also enjoy a day at the UBC Museum of Anthropology. Unfortunately, this museum is not free, but it is cheaper on Thursday evenings between 5 PM and 9 PM. If you liked the totem poles in Stanley Park, then you should definitely check out this museum. The exhibition entails artifacts and objects which have been created by the First Nations people. You get to know a bit more about the history of Vancouver and Canada by visiting this museum. The admission is normally $18. Save some money by going on Thursday evening with a ticket of only $10.
