Smart Saver Vancouver

Next week is our Chirstmas party! Secret Santa is also a part of this evening. No idea what to buy for the game? Here are some places where you can find cheap but fun gifts.

Dollorama and Dollartree are cheap shops where they have everything! You can collect a lot of small things to make a nice, big gift. Or look in one of the many souvenir shops. They also have a lot of fun stuff with a Canadian flag on it. Who doesn’t want that?

Maybe you have a nice restaurant of bar who have gift cards. Everybody will be happy with food and drinks, especially with discounts. Christmas decorations are not expensive, but also a fun thing to get. Or prepare somebody else for the cold and rain that is still waiting for us this winter.

Wherever you go and whatever you go to buy, I can’t wait to see all the gifts. Good luck hunting for some fun gifts. We hope to see you all at PuB NiGHT tomorrow night!

INTERNeX Canada: Highlights of the week Ep12

This week’s episode of Highlights Of The Week is going to be about a couple of smaller things, which are still exciting and not to be overlooked, even though they are more part of the daily life in Vancouver.

Me not being in town for that long yet, I found it very noticeable on how many of the bigger houses in town the people seem to have designed little parks. They planted big trees on their houses, right there. I found that very peculiar, but it also makes me realize how ‘green’ a city Vancouver is and to what great length its inhabitants are willing to be creative that it is and stays this way. So this is a little daily highlight for me, because I can see many of these ‘parks’ on my way to the office each morning.

Another thing which I found absolutely adorable and which would come in very handy as a souvenir are these Red Vancouver Mittens. For $10 each, about $4 go to the Canadian Olympic foundation and therefore support the Canadian athletes during the next Olympic games in 2014. For me, this would be a souvenir highlight, which you can actually use in your daily life. Because winter will come as sure as the sun will set down tonight.

Concerning the more active highlights this week, I shall not forget to mention our very successful PuB NiGHT on Wednesday. We went to The Warehouse downtown which was especially great for our candidates under 19. The Warehouse is primarily a restaurant and therefore you can enjoy some time there, even if you are under age. We will try to do that once in a while now, to not leave you guys behind, so to speak. Upcoming events and things to do are the first Vancouver Color Run today, where you can celebrate life and happiness while watching how others stay in shape. And of course last but not least, the Giants hockey game we will go to on Sunday. Meeting point is Waterfront Station at 12.10 pm, so don’t forget. Go Giants!!!

INTERNeX Canada: Smart Save Vancouver

Ok, all the people know, Vancouver is an expensive city. But with our “Smart Saver” guide, you can take notes about our little tips to keep your budget safe. Today, we are going to talk about cheap places to buy souvenirs.

In every trip there are three fundamental things to do:

–       Enjoy and try to visit the most places as possible

–       Take pictures to show to the people how amazing is your trip

–       Buy souvenirs for the family and friends

But sometimes souvenirs can be really expensive… and a lot of people usually wait to the last moment, inside the airport, to buy gifts. But come on, this is not very correct and you know that.

But firstly, which kind of souvenir are more commons?

–       A cap or a t-shirt with Canada written on it.

–       Something with a maple leaf

–       Something with a reindeer or a bear

–       Something with the Canadian Flag

And secondly, where can you go to buy them?

Canada Store: It’s a super cheap supermarket. There is some cool stuff that you can buy there! And after Canada Day they have amazing discounts, so take advantage of them!

It’s impossible to find in Downtown, but you can check the different locations here.

But if this store is pretty far away for you, there a lot of shops in Downtown. Water Street (Downtown) is a fantastic place to buy souvenirs!

Vancouver International Jazz Festival – June 25 – July 4

If you enjoy the smooth, rhythmic beats of jazz, then Vancouver’s International Jazz Festival is an event you don’t want to miss! Over 1,800 musicians, 400 concerts and 40 venues will be animating the city for 10 days, celebrating  North America’s oldest, most celebrated genres.

From noon to the wee small hours, a rich tapestry of jazz, blues, funk, latin, fusion, electronica and world music will fill the air at venues big and small, indoor and outdoor across the city. Vancouver is home to one of the most unique and extraordinary jazz scenes on the continent.

By taking the music to concert halls, parks, community spaces, clubs, public plazas and neighbourhood streets, the Jazz Festival will electrifies Vancouver with over 400 concerts and stirs the souls of more that 500,000 people each year. One of the many free events taking place during the festival includes Gastown Jazz! This is a free, two-day street festival. Historic Gastown becomes an open-air party with multiple acts spread over two days from 1 p.m until 8 p.m. Featuring Canadian and International artists, Gastown Jazz has become a traditional destination for jazz fans and is synonymous with the opening weekend of the Festival. Two free stages bookend Water Street’s three blocks. Continuous music is performed for everyone to enjoy. Friends and families come from all over to celebrate the beginning of summer while reveling in a diverse array of musical styles. Gastown Jazz also boasts dazzling street entertainers, souvenir and CD kiosks, snacks and refreshments, as well as a wide selection of cafés, restaurants, and bistros all along Water Street.
