INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend?

Don’t you think its funny that: We just do a internship here in Vancouver, but get the change to do the most amazing things. For example this weekend I went to White Rock beach and went out and had the most amazing night. However next weekend I will be going rafting and the next we have the festival of lights and the next rockies.  It is just really easy to get the know people who want to explorer, do the same thing here and just simply wanna make this the most amazing time. Thank you INTERNeX for making me part of this amazing experience.

So now, Let me tell you what I did at White Rock Beach. We started the day early and went to the beach. When we arrived there we saw all of a sudden a train coming. It is quite remarkable that the train is so close to the beach. We walked over the pier and lay on the beach with a beautifull scenery. Afterwards went for some fish and chips or poutine, which made for a perfect ending.

When I got home I got ready for Lies 21st Birthday Party. Everybody got dressed up for her party. On the picture you can see our INTERNeX GIrls group. After playing the drinking game Kingscup, which was hilarious and got everybody fired up for a crazy limo ride. The Limousine ride was all about class and fun. We swinged to the music and drank champagne. LIES Happy Birthday and thank you for sharing this amazing night with us.

Cheers,

Petra

INTERNeX Canada: PuB & CLUB NiGHT Review

Friday we had another great PuB & Club NiGHT!! The pub Speak Easy was really cosy and we all had a lot of fun. This was a great night to meet a lot of people because more people came then expected. We all started of with cocktails and pitchers to make us all loosen up to the music which got us all in the moods for the Club. The club Venue kept our feet moving to the beat and danced the night away. Thank you all for sharing this amazing night with us. I can not wait for the next time.

However if you missed it do not worry next week we are going to have another change to meet new people, go to a different part of the city and learn another new pub.

If you want to see all the pictures click here

INTERNeX Canada: How was your weekend

Shopping that is what I did last weekend, Saturday to the Summer Night Market and on Sunday to the Richmond Night Market with INTERNeX. They are both big markets however they both have the same kind of things. I prefer the Richmond Night Market, because the have  a little bit more diversity in their vendors and its bigger. However you will need to pay 1,5 dollars for the entrée. The food was delicious at both markets and I enjoyed myself immensely.

Check out all the pictures online on our Flickr site

Let me know how your weekend was.

Cheers,

Petra

INTERNeX Canada: Expose of the week featuring Janina

Let us introduce you to Janina for this week’s expose.  Janina is from Germany and has travelled to Canada to take on an international internship as a requirement for her program in International Tourism Management back home. She will be in Canada for a 3 month internship and then plans on travelling for a month afterward.  She decided on Vancouver as her destination because she had previously been to Toronto and enjoyed Canada enough to come back and check out the West Coast!

What kind of internship are you doing?

I am interning at an Event Management company where we organize events for several associations throughout Vancouver.

Is your internship useful?

Yes, my internship has been very useful.  I have already done an apprenticeship in hotel management in Germany, so being on the event side, it has given me a different perspective and I have learned many new things by being in a different industry.  Also, it has taught me a lot about doing business in a different country and on an international basis.

What kind of tasks are you responsible for on a daily basis?

My tasks differ every single day and often, I act as the helping hand for all of the employees here.  So, one day I could be sending out invites and reminders to a certain event and the next day I might be calling couriers, making sure supplies are delivered on time and setting up the event at the venues.

What is the best thing about your internship?

The best thing about my internship is going to the events I help organize.  It is the best of both worlds because I get the opportunity to be involved in the behind the scenes work of the event, and then I get attend the event and see the finished product.  Another plus is the AMAZING food.  Since most of the events are at 5 star hotels, I have had eaten some pretty delicious meals.

What do you like most about Canada and Vancouver?

My favourite thing about Vancouver is the scenery.  For example, I can go to the beach and get a view of the ocean, the city and the mountains all in one glance.  Also, there is so much to do and explore here.

What trips did you do in your free time, also organized by INTERNeX?

In my free time I have visited North Vancouver, Stanley Park and the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge.  I have been to some of the PuB NiGHTs and the cinema events organized by INTERNeX. I also went on the last trip to Seattle with the group, which was a lot of fun and we did some shopping and sightseeing and I also went on the INTERNeX Rockies Trip.

Why did you choose INTERNeX International Exchange?

I first started to look for Internships in Canada on my own, but was having a hard time because most of the companies said they do not accept international interns.  I got in contact with a German based company who then directed me to INTERNeX and they were fast at getting in contact with and finding me a placement.

What’s the best thing about INTERNeX International Exchange?

The best thing about INTERNeX was their ability set me up with my internship so quickly. I filled out the application, was in contact with the program coordinators and within 3 weeks I already had two interviews with potential internships and I ended up getting accepted at my event management company.

How did you find a place to stay?

INTERNeX informed me about their Staffhouse, and as soon as space was free I jumped on the chance to live there.

Would you recommend INTERNeX International Exchange?

I would definitely recommend INTERNeX to others, especially those in Germany who are having a hard time finding an internship abroad.  They were really great at keeping in contact with me, and made the process a lot faster than I imaged it would be and in the end set me up with a great internship J

Thanks for sharing with us Janina! We are happy you are enjoying your time here and good luck with the rest of your internship!

Cheers,

PR Team

INTERNeX Canada: Expose of the Week

We are happy to present to you Nick as our feature expose of the week at INTERNeX. Nick is an Australian from Brisbane and is looking forward to the summer, because this cold weather is just not as enjoyable as the hot sun he’s used to back home. He has been here for 1 month of his 3-month internship, but loves it here so much that he is hoping to stay in Vancouver afterwards. He came to Canada to get a change of scenery and experience new places and he admits it helps that it was an English speaking country. He chose Vancouver because has heard great things about how beautiful it is and all of the things to do outdoors.

What kind of internship are you doing and do you find it useful?

I am an IT intern as a software engineer and work with programming. Since I just graduated from university, I was looking to get some practical experience and I am definitely getting that here, so this internship is very useful. I have a learned a lot of new things and the work I am doing is really enjoyable.

What kind of tasks are you responsible for on a daily basis?

I am not really assigned daily tasks, but I am given a project to work on. They have me filling in bits and pieces that they normally wouldn’t have time to accomplish. Depending on how long the project takes me I work on that until it is finished and then am assigned a new task.

What do you like most about Canada and Vancouver?

My favorite things about Vancouver are the Canucks, hockey, the mountains and all of the outdoor activities. Of course it also doesn’t hurt that it is an English speaking country and that Canada is closely related to Australia, both being part of the British Commonwealth. It felt nice coming here and seeing the Queen on the coins, and made it feel a little like home.

What trips did you do in your free time, also organized by INTERNeX?

I’m living at the Staffhouse so there is always someone to hang out with after work, which is great. I have also gone to 2 hockey games and can’t wait for the weather to get warmer so I can go hiking and explore more of what Vancouver has to offer. I went on INTERNeX’s trip to Seattle last month as well as the trip to the Rockies.

Do you attend the weekly Pub-Night organized by INTERNeX and do you think this is a good way to meet new people?

I have been to 2 PuB NiGHTs organized by INTERNeX and they were a lot of fun. Since I live at the Staffhouse I have already met a most of the other people at INTERNeX, but for those who don’t live at the Staffhouse with everyone, I think it’s a great way to meet new people and hang out with friends.

Why did you choose INTERNeX International Exchange?

I was looking to get away after I had graduated so I ended up learning about INTERNeX through searching Internship programs on Google. After reading up on the programs and what they have to offer, I decided it was a good fit for me.

What’s the best thing about INTERNeX International Exchange?

For me, the best thing about INTERNeX has been their Staffhouse and how they helped organize my accommodation prior to coming to Vancouver. It’s nice how I am living with people in the same situation as me and we have our own little ‘community’, which is really fun to be a part of.

How did you find a place to stay?

INTERNeX helped me find a place to stay. The idea of a Homestay didn’t really appeal to me and I knew I didn’t want to live on my own so INTERNeX suggested the Staffhouse and I chose this option. They helped me organize my housing before I had arrived and it provided an ease of mind knowing I had somewhere to stay from the get-go. It was also very helpful when going through immigration; with my accommodation already organized upon arriving in Canada I didn’t receive any hassle.

Would you recommend INTERNeX International Exchange?

Yes, I would definitely recommend INTERNeX to others. It made it really easy to meet new people and get set up in a new country through the orientation and all the helpful advice from fellow INTERNeX’ers.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us Nick! We know you’ll enjoy the rest of your time here and if you need a fellow hiking partner I’m sure we could get some of us to tackle the Grouse Grind with you.

Cheers,
Kristina
