Summer Time is the Best Time!

I just absolutely love summertime. Fresh, cool air breezes through the city and brings with it the aroma of sizzling meat on the barbecue. In Vancouver, the groups of people clustered on Robson Street signal the latest in-store sales and product promotions. In Toronto, the  GO trains become packed with Blue Jays fans waiting to see Ricky Romero wind up on the pitcher’s mound. Ahhh, summer.

This past Saturday was a great summer day for myself and some friends. If you live in Vancouver and were anywhere near Gastown this past weekend, you know that the Vancouver International Jazz Festival was on. As we strolled down Water Street, the atmosphere surrounding us was uplifting. Magicians and jugglers lined the streets, welcoming any and all spectators. Nearby pubs were packed with jazz fans yearning for a pint. Lemonade stands and corn on the cob stations offered food to satisfy anyone’s taste buds and two different stages hosted the smooth, rhythmic beats of Jazz.

Looking around, I couldn’t help but really feel a part of something that day. People lucky enough to live in Gastown hung out their windows, watching the live performances from the comfort of their own home. The crowds watching the shows were both young and old, tourists and Vancouverites alike – all coming to enjoy the same genre of music. It was a great day!

If you didn’t get the chance to go out this past weekend – shame on you…buuuutt don’t worry. The Jazz festival will continue until July 4, 2010.  For more information on show times and locations, visit the website.

Grouse Grind Hike with INTERNeX!

With all of the rain we’ve been getting in Vancouver, I’ve been itching to get outside and enjoy the weather. If you’re in Vancouver, you know what I mean. Anyone is welcome to join Manouk and I tomorrow morning as we head to Grouse Mountain to hike their Grouse Grind trail. We will meet inside the Waterfront Station at 10 a.m. and take the sea bus to North Vancouver. From there we will hop on a bus that will take us straight to our destination.

What you will need:

  • Good hiking shoes / running shoes
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Bottle of Water
  • Packed lunch (optional)
  • Money ($10.00 Skyride down the mountain and bus fare OR 2 Zone bus pass)
  • Camera

The Skyride is optional, as you can hike back down the mountain. We can decide this once we get to the top, however the Skyride is a one-mile journey like no other.

High above towering Douglas firs, breathtaking views of the city of Vancouver, sparkling Pacific Ocean, Gulf Islands, and snowy peaks unfold as you journey up the mountainside. North America’s largest aerial tramway is your gateway to the majestic nature of the Peak of Vancouver, and an experience in itself.

Once we get to the top, there are many activities to do if we want to stay and have a few more hours of fun. They have :

You don’t have to bring a packed lunch, but it might be fun to have a little picnic at the top, it’s supposed to be beautiful out tomorrow. There is a few restaurants at the mountain and a Starbucks I believe if you want to buy food instead.

This will be a  fun adventure guys, hope to see you tomorrow at 10 a.m. outside the Waterfront Station!

Can’t make this activity? Join us for pub night at Metropole, June 23!

Cheers and have a great weekend

Laura

English Bay

Coming from a little town in Ontario, I’m still getting used to the amount of activities available in British Columbia.  Where I lived, downtown consisted of a gas station, one grocery store and an arena. I absolutely love that everything is at your doorstep here in Vancouver!

On Friday, I went out to the Blarney Stone in Gas Town, where people danced the night away to Irish music and enjoyed the company of good friends. I had a really good night there and think I’ll go back soon!

Not wanting to waste a minute, I woke up Saturday morning and hustled downtown. The shops on Robson Street were whispering to me… “Look at the nice shoes I have,” …”Come in, you need some new clothes Laura.” Needless to say, I  ended up with many shopping bags in my hand by noon that day!

Sunday I went to the Vancouver Lookout with Jan, who found an internship through INTERNeX and just flew in from Germany. I think he will like Vancouver a lot! After taking the bus home, around 6 p.m I had dinner. However,  I still wasn’t ready to let the weekend end.

I had always heard that English Bay was a nice place to watch the sunset, so off I went! I arrived around 8:20 p.m., where many other people had also gathered to take in the view. English Bay is the downtown core’s most populated beach – attractive to people of all ages. If you haven’t been there yet, I suggest you go! Bring a friend and a frisbee, there’s lots of space to run around.

Here are a few pictures I took, beautiful isn’t it?

Hope you get the chance to see the sunset at English Bay. If you’re an early riser, I’m sure the sunrise is just as beautiful!

Bye for now,

Laura

New INTERNeX PuB NiGHT Location

Happy Friday everybody! So this week seems to have flown by once again but i think that is because of all the Olympic buzz flying around the city. What kind of events have you all been to or are planning on going to? I encourage you guys to send me some of the pictures that you have taken this past week so we can show off just how beautiful our city truly is. I’m downtown nearly every day morning and night and it seems like its never truly quiet down here anymore. We definitely ran into some troubles last PuB NiGHT because The Cambie was exceptionally busy due to the fact that everyone was out on the town to watch some of the live Olympic events. Since there was absolutely no room to sit at at this location Shinya and I headed over to several other bars, including the lamplighter, to try and find somewhere that had enough room for us. No luck…until we  found The Metropole (320 Abbott Street). The place had lots of booths and hightops available, pool tables and other games for us to play, and great food/drink specials. $3.50 Sleeves, $5 Doubles and $8 for a Can of Beer and a Shot! If you want to take a closer look at this pub visit their website but trust me it’s a great place and it actually used to be one our PuB NiGHT locations in the past. Just so you guys know this bar has no cover charge until 9pm. If you arrive any later then 9pm you will have to pay $8 so i recommend all you late comers to head down a little earlier then usual so you don’t waste any of your drinking money! lol. As always Shinya and i will be at the Waterfront sky train station from 7-730 for those of you who are unsure as to where The Metropole is located but if you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to text or call either myself or Shinya. This might also be Shinya’s last PuB NiGHT with him so let’s give him a  nice big farewell guys!

If you have any more questions or queries about our weekly PuB NiGHT on in regards to other events you can contact us at the office
