What to do on the weekend?

Wait, it’s already Friday? We totally understand the confusion because of the long weekend, but yes folks, it’s already Friday and you all know what that means…. indeed, almost weekend. So we lined up some things for you so you can decided what you are going to do during your weekend.

This weekend will be the last weekend you can enjoy the Asian Illumination Summer Night Market located at 12631 Vulcan Way in Richmond. The night market is open from 7 pm until 12 am and on Sunday until 11 pm. There are a lot of vendors selling a lot of different things from plastic phone cases to all kinds of tasty Asian foods like for example bubble teas, curly potato chips on a stick and friend octopus. Most evenings at the market there is live entertainment from local amateur bands, singers, dancers and much more.20872046193_b77294e20c_z

And if you like sports well go support our Vancouver Whitecaps then on Saturday during their match against Real Salt Lake at BC Place Stadium. The game starts at 7:00 pm and tickets are on sale via the website of the Whitecaps.

On Sunday we want to take you all to the Vancouver Street Food Festival. There will be a lot of Food Trucks and live music of The Pop Junkies. The event starts at 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm. So hopefully we will see you all on Sunday and we hope that you will have an amazing weekend.

Smart Saver Vancouver

It’s time for the Smart Saver again and this time I would like to give you a few cheap options for my favourite activity; eating.

Bon’s Off Broadway
If you partied a little too hard at PuB NiGHT you might want to get a good breakfast to come back to life. A cheap place to go is Bon’s Off Broadway. Here you can have breakfast and brunch for only $2.95. Obviously you shouldn’t expect a 5-star restaurant for those prices, but the food is actually pretty good. They are located on 2451 Nanaimo Street and are open Monday – Friday from 7:00 AM till 8:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM till 8:00 PM.

Hi-Five
A great place to get lunch if you’re in Gastown is Hi-Five. They make a few different grilled cheeses varying from $3 to $6. However, they are only open on Thursday from 6:00 PM till midnight and Friday and Saturday from 8:00 PM till 2:00 AM.

Gringo
If you like tacos Gringo is the place for you. This cool, upbeat and very colourful taco bar is located in Gastown and their prices start at $2.75 per taco and $3.75 for a Lager or Pale Ale.

Tacotime
Another option for tacos is going to Tacotime. This fast food like restaurant for tacos has four locations in downtown and serves tacos, burritos and a few other dishes. There is also the option to make your dish a meal. You can find one of these in the food court right next to our office.18516328_1752580871424023_1394152612_n

The Hastings Warehouse / The Famous Warehouse / The Capital
These are the places where the dishes are only $5 each. The menus are all quite similar and even though it’s only 5 dollar, the food is pretty good. The Hastings Warehouse is located at 156 West Hastings Street, The Famous Warehouse at 989 Granville Street and The Capital on 1778 Davie Street.

Street Food Vancouver
Another great option for food is a food truck, you can find them around the city and a lot of them have really good food. A good way to find one is by using the Street Food Vancouver App. This will show you which ones are open and where you can find them.

I hope to see you all tonight at The Charles Bar!

What to do on the weekend?

The week is almost over and people are starting to get ready for the weekend. I hope you all had a great week and are ready for an awesome weekend as well. Got any plans for the weekend yet? No? There is a lot to do this weekend, so that also means there is a lot of choice for you!

First of all, the INTERNeX family is going to celebrate Chinese New Year at the Chinese New Year Parade this Sunday. 15965745_10154886634952103_8586645978562399909_n
However, if you do not have time to go to the parade, there are plenty of events left to attend as well. It already starts at the 28th of January with a cooking demonstration in Lonsdale Quay Market. After that you can also watch the traditional Eye-Dotting Ceremony at 2 pm or the Lion Dance after.

On Sunday you can also show your best moves during the VSO New Music Festival: On a Wire! You can enjoy an amazing electric music performance of Bramwell Tovey and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. If you love electric music, you should definitely check this out! The music festival takes place in Orpheum at 601 Smithe Street. It starts at 7.30 pm, so you can even plan other activities during the day. Please make sure to buy tickets beforehand to ensure a spot. Tickets cost $30 for an adult and if you still got a student card, you can get a ticket for only $22.50.

This weekend the event Cuisine & Confessions takes place in Vancouver Playhouse. The performance is a combination of a kitchen and circus. Make sure not to wear your nicest clothes, as their will be food throwing involved. Even though this performance is quite pricy, it is still worth your time. Prices range from $45 to $60.

Another event that you may have noticed this week is Street Food City. During Street Food City you can find over 25 food trucks in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery. The food trucks mostly offer local food for a pretty good price. This weekend will be your last chance to try local food at one of these food trucks. If you go there, eat as much as you can and tell your flatmates that you will not join dinner, as you will definitely leave the event with a full stomach. Time for a break? While enjoying your meal or taking a break, you can listen to some music.

I hope to see you on Sunday at the Chinese New Year Parade. If not, have a great weekend anyways and see you at PuB NiGHT!
