What to do on the weekend?

It might not be the best weather today, but the weekend is starting today, so at least some good news, right?! And it gets even better, because it’s going to be a long weekend. Here are some ideas, as to what you could do this weekend.

Monday is Victoria Day, which celebrates the birthday of Queen Victoria. Who is Queen Victoria you might ask? She was the Queen of England and head of the British Empire when Canada became an independent country.

On Saturday, we are going to go bike riding in Stanley Park. We will meet at 12 pm at Yes Cycle at 687 Denman St. The first hour for the rental of the bikes will be $8 and the second one $7. So join us and explore Stanley Park.

For all of you who enjoy the Yale, I have an interesting tip for you. This weekend, from the 17 to 20 May is the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair in Surrey. It is one of North’s Americas longest running Rodeos, with additional entertainment and food. Tickets are $10 and up.

market

On Saturday and Sunday is the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival. The event features an exhibition and a vendor fair with hundreds of creators from around the world. There will also be readings, panels and workshops. The festival will be held at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Center from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is free.

If you’re in the mood for a bit of shopping and want to find some unique things, it might be worth checking out the Eastside Flea Market on Saturday or Sunday. This is not your average flea market. You will be able to find vintage clothing, quality handcrafted items, jewellery, natural locally-made body care, art, vinyl records, food and many more interesting items. There will be over 50 vendors, so there will be plenty to see. Admission is $3.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Some of  you might have visited the Indian Vaisakhi celebration last weekend in Vancouver. If you liked it or missed it, you have the opportunity to go to another Vaisakhi celebration. This one will take place in Surrey on Saturday. The event will celebrate the New Year of the Sikh faith. With an expected 300,000 visitors, it will be one of the biggest Vaisakhi celebrations outside of India. There will be a parade, performances and Indian food. And the best part is, the event is free, as well as most of the food. The celebration will take place from approximately 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the parade starting at 12885 85th Avenue, at Surrey’s Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar Temple.

In case you find yourself craving Pizza on Saturday, good news, Pizza Pizza offers cheese and pepperoni pizza for only $4.20 at all of their locations for the entire day.

Enjoy your Easter weekend!

How was your weekend?

Unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye to another great weekend in Vancouver. This means I only have one weekend left in this beautiful city. But hey, let’s not get into that right now. Instead, let me tell you about the fun I’ve had the past few days.

44020762001_2fc6f5abfe_nOn Saturday, it was time for our INTERNeX event: Outdoor Game Day. Six fun activities were on the schedule. But first things first: Team division. Who forms ‘team pink’ and who is part of ‘team blue’? After we determined that, we spilled the secret that there’d be a prize for the winning team. We had to get you guys motivated. Time to play the first game: ‘Card Relay Race’. Let’s find out how competitive you guys are. In this game, both teams had to collect all cards of a specific symbol. But, it wasn’t that simple. The cards lay, face down, on the other side of the field. Team members had to run back and forth, flipping a card at a time, until their stack was complete. It took quite some time before there was a winner, but in the end, it was 1-0 for team blue.

A round of memory, Kubb and water bottle bowling later, it was 3-1 for team blue. Next up: Pictionary. This was a challenging game in which everyone could show off their drawing skills. Well, or lack of drawing skills. This game surely created a lot of laughs. The last game involved water, sponges and buckets. The goal: bringing as much water to the other side as possible. Though it might seem impossible, both teams had the exact same amount of water in their buckets. So, both teams got a point. The end score: 5-2 for team blue. Congrats guys! I hope you liked your prize!

After multiple hours of being active, it was snack time (schnacks!). A couple of us went to the Warehouse in Gastown for lunch. When we finished our meals, I went home to freshen up. Not long after that, I went to Surrey to meet up with friends. We spent the evening watching my favorite movie: Safe Haven (If you haven’t watched it yet, get on it!) and Pitch Perfect 2.

Interactive IntrovertsOn Sunday, I spent most of my day relaxing. In the evening, however, I went to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Two YouTubers I watch, Dan Howell and Phil Lester, are on tour right now and on this day, they were in Vancouver. Their show is called Interactive Introverts and its aim is “giving the people what they want”, as Dan likes to say. I laughed a lot and couldn’t have spent my Sunday night any better.

I hope you all had a great weekend as well. See you tomorrow for our Outdoor Movie event in Stanley Park!

Candidate Exposé – Klara Krieg

Klara KriegMy name is Klara, 21 years old and I am from Germany. Currently I am studying Business-Engineering. I decided to go to Canada for the international experience and because I have a fascination for the country.

I found Internex through my university, since they have a collaboration. I am doing an internship here at the moment and I really like it! For my internship you need to be able to work independently and be open-minded as a person.

My first impression I got when I came here is that the airport looked nice but small and that Canada is absolutely beautiful. I still feel that way now. The PR-team organises events and activities and I think they are really good. I love the events and the girls do a very good job organizing everything! So I kind of attended nearly every event in the last 3 months.

What I like most is that Canada is just a beautiful, fascinating country with a lot of different attractions. The nature is stunning, especially Vancouver with the beaches, mountains and city centre!

A difficulty I had to face here is that I am living in Surrey, which is too far away from downtown Vancouver… but that is kinds of the only negative part about my entire stay here. The most memorable things for me are the hikes I did and the great people I’ve met.

Internex was helpful for me to give me a good orientation, good support and the events helped a lot to meet new people and to have a great time in Vancouver. I would definitely recommend it!

This experience definitely inspired me to travel more, but I don’t know where I will travel at the moment. When I get back in Germany the first thing I will do is eating bread and CHEESE! And meeting my boyfriend and family again!

What to do on the weekend?

Open the beer bottles, put on your casual clothes and prepare yourself for the parties. Weekend just started! For people who love the circus, Vancouver is the place to be. Maybe you already saw the big tents at the Pacific Boulevard and were wondering what is happening there. From this weekend on Cirque du Solei is giving big shows every weekend till December. Enjoy magic shows, acrobatics and much more.

On 31 October we will go to the Halloween party at nightclub Studio. You can sign up now, so you won’t miss this great party. Prepare yourself well by going Halloween shopping this Saturday. We will meet in front of Value Village to get the best costume for you. And we have got something special for you. We will give away two free tickets! One ticket for the person with the scariest costume and the other ticket for the person with the funniest costume.

After the shopping there is enough time to go to the Kitsilano Autumn Fair. This is a free community event with a lot of activities both indoor and outdoor. The event will take place from 10 am till 3 pm.

Of course there are a lot of Halloween events going on like Ghost Train in Stanley Park, Fright Nights at Playland or Bear Creek Halloween Trains and Potter’s House of Horrors in Surrey. Whatever you decide to do, or decide to do nothing at all, I hope you have a great weekend!

What to do on the weekend?

It is Friday again and you know what that means, right? Time to get out of the house and celebrate the weekend. This weekend will be a long weekend, so you will have lots of time to explore British Columbia and Vancouver.

18195054_10155240525552103_6049775120854058037_nWe were already really lucky with the weather and it is getting better and better, which is why it is time to do outdoor activities. In this way we can enjoy the sun to the fullest. Therefore is INTERNeX planning a bike ride through Stanley Park on Sunday. You may have already seen the totem poles, but there are so many other things to explore in this amazing park.

There are also several events taking place during this weekend, such as the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair and the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival. The Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair is a festival which is 4 days in total. This event is especially for the cowboys and cowgirls in our group. So let your inner cowboy free during this great festival. The Vancouver Comic Arts Festival is a festival with several comic-related events. These include readings, presentations, discussions and a big exhibition area. If you like comics, then this is definitely the place to go!

Besides that you can also go to Tagore Spring Festival in Surrey on Saturday. There are various kinds of performances, including dance, music and poetry. Next to that you can also learn a bit more about the Canadian culture while you watch presentations about all the different traditions and heritages. The festival is paid by donation, so definitely worth checking out!

17352379_10208531571187759_1886154942491608944_nIf you would rather watch sports during this weekend, you could go to the BC Place Stadium on Saturday and watch the Vancouver Whitecaps play against Sporting Kansas City. Of course, you could also go to one of the great sports bars in Vancouver. When you would rather spend your time outside because of the expected good weather, then you could go to one of Vancouver’s great beaches such as English Bay, Jericho Beach and Kitsilano Beach.

I hope you will have a great weekend! See you in Stanley Park or at next week’s PuB NiGHT!

What to do on the weekend?

Almost weekend!! There are lots of events this weekend in Vancouver!

First of all, some of us will go to the Vancouver Riptides to watch their first Frisbee game of the year, so it will be very busy.

There are also some other events this weekend. For example, tomorrow it is Earth Day. To celebrate this day there will be a number of events around town. Screen Shot 2017-04-21 at 11.28.57 AM.pngThe two biggest ones are the Party for the Planet in Surrey and the Earth Day Parade in Vancouver. Party for the Planet is a family friendly event at the Surrey City Hall. It features environmental information booths, activities for children and lots of live entertainment. Around the second half of the afternoon there will be live music for older folks. The Earth Day Parade will start at 1 PM at the corner of Commercial Drive and Grandview Highway, after that it will go north and finishes at Grandview Park, where a small festival will take place until 5 PM.

On Sunday the Vancouver Sun Run will take place and starts at 9 AM. This is the largest 10 km race of Canada and also one of the most beautiful. It will start at the corner of Georgia and Burrard and it goes to Stanley Park, English Bay, Burrard Street Bridge, Cambie Bridge and to BC Place Stadium. The views include the mountains, ocean, beaches, skyscrapers and bridges.

I hope to see all of you this weekend!
