Smart Saver Vancouver

What could be more refreshing than a cold drink? Especially since the past few days it’s become warmer and warmer in Vancity. So how can we compensate this “intense” heat?

Just wait for the 11th of July. On this day, 7-eleven is giving out free Slurpees. This day is also understood as the birthday of 7-eleven. Quite clever, huh? 😉 Back to the Slurpee. You never heard of a Slurpee before? One more reason to go for it on the 11th of July. But for those that want to know before they go, I will give a short briefing: A Slurpee is basically really fine, crushed ice, mixed with a flavour of your choice. The range of flavours is big: from Coca-Cola to Mountain Dew and fruits like lime, grape, orange or banana. Mouth-watering, isn’t it? 😋 My advice: If you fall in love with the Slurpee, get a loyalty card and every 7th drink will be for free for you! So, go ahead and get slurping. 🥤

BUT, the Slurpee is not the only drink you can get for free the upcoming days. The 14th of July is Root Beer Day at A&W. Ever tried this non-alcoholic beer? To be honest, it does not really have anything in common with regular beer, except for the foam when freshly poured in a glass. It has an incomparable taste and is very refreshing. Go for it and give it a try. At A&W it is produced using all natural ingredients, so don’t worry, nothing artificial about this one! My advice: Sign up for coupons on the A&W website. With these coupons, you will get top-ups on your orders or a free side to your order. Who does not love free pancakes or an upgrade to sweet potato fries?

14044809449_059fb00c74_nAre all those sweet drinks not really for you? I do have an alternative. It also includes a drink (Bubble Tea or Thai Ice Tea) and a healthy Poké bowl. 🍲 And this for only $5. Where you can get this amazing offer? It’s at the Poké and Sushi Restaurant “Daddy’s Kitchen” (2586 Commercial Drive). That’s not even a minute walk from the Expo Line station Commercial-Broadway.

I hope you’ll have the time to check out some of the offers and maybe find your new favourite drink! 👍

See you tonight at the Dublin Calling Rooftop!

How was your weekend?

Although it has been a slightly cold weekend, I had a lot of fun. Let me tell you all about it!

Cinema June 1st 2018On Friday, I left the office at 6pm, as usual. This time, I did not take the bus home right away. Instead, Kerstin, Nadine, Nadja and I went out for sushi at a place called ‘Momo Sushi’. Unexpectedly, our sushi was served within approximately 10 minutes after the waitress took our order. It is safe to say that the service was amazing. Just like our sushi. Our favourite: the avocado roll. And personally, I love the yam and vegetable tempura as well. The plan was to go to the cinema after dinner, however, the movie did not start until 9:35pm, so we decided to play Rummikub at 131 Water for a while. A few rounds of losing later, it was time to watch ‘I Feel Pretty’ at the cinema. A hilarious feel-good movie with an amazing message. I definitely recommend watching it. At 11:30pm, the movie ended and it was time to head home.

41842966624_2de5485e03_nI did not do anything special on Saturday, so let’s move on to my Sunday. On this day, I spent my morning sleeping in for the first time in weeks. When I was ready to say goodbye to my bed, I FaceTimed with one of my Dutch friends for a few hours. At 3.15pm, it was time to leave the house and go to the Extreme Air Park. Time for this week’s INTERNeX event! We spent the early evening jumping from trampoline to trampoline, playing dodgeball and basketball and jumping into foam pits. We even got to wear special glow-in-the-dark socks. I wouldn’t call it fashion, but they ensured our safety and whenever the lights went off, the socks were the only clothing items that remained visible. We jumped around for an hour and since we were all very sweaty, it was time to go home and have a shower. I spent the rest of the evening watching a movie and then it was time to call it a night.

I hope you all had a great weekend! See you on Wednesday at The Relish for PuB NiGHT!

How was your weekend?

It’s Friday, Friday, got to get down on Friday. Everybody’s looking forward to the weekend, weekend… I was super-duper excited about the fact that it was weekend. Why? Well, I had a bunch of fun activities planned and I will tell my story about the weekend now:

After work on Friday, there is no better way to celebrate the beginning of the weekend than with a good dance at a club. For me, this meant line dancing at the Yale Saloon in downtown. Every Friday, the club has Cowgirl Friday, which means free entry for women until 11pm. Additionally to that, there is line dancing from 8pm until 11pm. It was my first time doing line dancing, but I am already considering buying some cowboy shoes.

Happy International Pillow Fight Day! On Saturday, we all gathered secretly in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery, our pillows ready to be used. At 3pm sharp, the flash mob started. A few hits on my back, a few on my head, a few pillows into my side. People showed no mercy. OK, they did, since no one was harmed seriously and fluffy PILLOWS were used. After 20 fun, exciting and exhausting minutes, it was over again. So, what to do to keep the level of happiness? Of course, bowling! We went to the Commodore Bowling & Billiards and played for an hour. The two teams were boys vs. girls and luckily, both teams won once. Since all this playing is tiring and makes people hungry, we first enjoyed a coffee and later tasty sushi. With a full belly and a little headache (maybe the pillow fight did affect me more than I expected) I went to bed happily.

11am, I wake up after almost 12 hours of sleep. Wow, I think I really needed that. Best thing right after I woke up: my roommate brought me coffee to bed and pancakes were waiting for me to be eaten. Yep, I could get used to that. In the afternoon, we headed to the Vancouver Aquarium. We observed cute otters, were fascinated by jelly fishes, listened to the vocals of the sea lions and saw a 4D movie about sharks. Three hours rushed by extremely fast!

Hopefully, you all had a great weekend, too! See you on Wednesday at PuB NiGHT at the Portside Pub!

How was your weekend?

Monday… You have not been missed. But before I am going to face reality, let’s reminisce about last weekend. To celebrate the fact the weekend had started, me and a bunch of others treated ourselves to some tasty all-you-can-eat sushi at Hato Popo on Robson Street. Despite the fact we had to wait some time to get our food, the delicious California and Spring rolls were definitely worth it. After dinner we went to Bart’s place to have a few drinks and play games.

On Saturday, I woke up the best way possible. The sun was shining! Considering this was the first morning (and afternoon) since I arrived that I did not have any plans, I decided to relax for a bit and watch videos on my laptop. This was the perfect day to have free time considering I watch a Dutch television show named ‘Wie is de Mol’ (Who is the Mole) and the finale was live on TV that day. Thankfully, I was able to watch it via a live stream.

When the show ended I decided to leave the hostel, walk around the city and enjoy the sun. In the evening I joined many others at the St. Patrick’s Festival Kick-Off Party at Blarney Stone. It was a great night filled with dancing, nice drinks and live music from the band The Shenanigans. If you were not there, you definitely missed out!

On Sunday, I decided to go to the city centre and visit shops. One of my favorite shops I visited is definitely the Disney Store, which always makes me feel like a kid and as if I am living in a magical world. As a Dutch person, exploring and doing my practicum here in Vancouver is pretty magical to me too.

How was your weekend?

This weekend was a weekend to remember! So if you would like to know what we did keep on reading!

On Friday after work I had a pretty relaxed evening. I first went up to Horseshoe bay where I grabbed a coffee at Blenz and waited for David to be done with work. After he was done we went to downtown to grab some late dinner at Mc Donalds before heading home.

On Saturday I slept in and met up with Roslyn and Rebecka for some sushi before heading to The Bourbon. At the Bourbon we did some shots and enjoyed the Happy Hour deal. Later also Tom, Sebastian and his colleague joined us for some drinks and dancing. After a long and fun night we decided all to head home.

On Sunday the alarm went off pretty early since it was time for the Santa Claus Parade in Downtown. We saw a lot of fun cars passing by like the Vancouver Police Department, the Firefighter Department and of course Santa Claus himself!

After the parade we grabbed some lunch at Boston Pizza which included a lot of desserts as well. When we all finished our delicious lunch we headed to the Christmas Market at Jack Poole Plaza. It was a really pretty market with a lot of German inspired Christmas stands and also a lot of German food.

When we were done with buying some German food and drinking our warm apple cider and hot chocolate we ended our night!

Thank you all for joining and we hope you had an amazing weekend as well. Looking forward to see you all at the PuB NiGHT at the Black Frog!
