How was your Weekend?

I really hope all of you had a good weekend, despite all the news around COVID-19 and the insecurity that we are all facing at the moment…I know it’s just crazy and as you will see a little further below, this will also affect our events and activities in the near future. At the moment our top priority is to ensure that everyone is safe and healthy.

For me also, it’s really sad since I just started to get know all of you and I was looking so forward to our next Pub Night. But let’s make the best out of it! And as soon as it is possible again, we will meet again for sure! 🙂

In this spirit let’s talk about our Pub Crawl on Saturday which we were still able to do. We met at Waterfront station and from there we made our way to Gastown which is known as a good spot for bars and restaurants.

Our first stop was “The Lamplighter”. I think it’s a great pub and we started our evening with some drinks and shots.
After about 2 hours we moved on without having another destination in mind. We just wanted to walk around and see which pub attracts us the most. So the “Local” it was.
We continued where we stopped at the Lamplighter – we ordered more drinks (but what else to do at a pub, right ?! :D)

All in all it was a really fun evening and we had a lot to laugh about, even in these gloomy times.
On Saturday we also made spontaneous plans for the next day:
We planned on going to Squamish and hike up the mountain and then take the Sea-to-Sky Gondola back down. We even booked our shuttle to Squamish at the pub. But unfortunately we got disappointed the next morning because the gondola was closed due to high winds. At least we could reschedule our shuttle and we will do it on another time, when it is possible again to mingle with others safely.

Since we were prepared for a longer hike a new plan had to come up. So we went to Lions Bay and did a hike there, where we had some great views.

We also want to give you some important further information:

Due to the developing situation concerning COVID-19 and our first and foremost goal of prioritizing the safety of our candidates and staff, we will temporarily cancel all of our planned events for the coming weeks. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated as the situation changes continuously.

Additionally we would encourage you to avoid going to any large events or venues with 50+ attendees. In general it is better to stay home, avoid transit or gathering places and if possible see if you can undertake your placement activities from home.

Please keep informing yourself about the current news in Canada and the world: https://www.cbc.ca/, but also on symptoms and measures against the virus on the following government page: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/symptoms.html

We also encourage you to reach out to your insurance organization to ensure you are covered if you choose to remain in Canada and contract the virus. We also ask those whose original departure dates are within the next month to consider contacting your travel agent/airline to check the possibility of departing sooner.

We will stay connected with you online while we go through this challenging time, stay safe and remember: We are always here to help! J

Hope to see you soon again, take care and be safe!

Cheers

PuB NiGHT Review: The Lamplighter

“Bourbon Bingo!” is the motto of a Wednesday night at the Lamplighter. It definitely is the place to be. So, we decided that it was this weeks’ venue for the PuB NiGHT.
Bingo always promises a fun time and I can say we did,42944330991_890e2e4eb3_n even though no one from our group won anything. ☹

The music, even though it was quite retro, was very nice. Everybody could sing along and we really enjoyed the songs. As most of you know, I am just here since a few weeks now. So, it was my first time at The Lamplighter. I can tell you: You miss out on something if you never joined Wednesday’s Bingo night there.

Among us were some old faces, but we were also happy to see some new candidates. Unfortunately, it was not just time for “Hi’s,” but for some “Bye’s” as well. Three of our candidates had their last PuB NiGHT yesterday. 😦 So, flags with the red maple-leaf made their way through our group and a lot of signing was done.

philip-flag-pub-night-2018.jpgWhile we were chatting about all different kinds of topics (yes, the most important one is still the FIFA World Cup), our attention was taken over by the Weather Girls. To be clear: It was not them in person, but rather their song “It’s raining men”. This song got a bunch of guys on the table next to us going crazy and totally lose their shi(r)t. They were dancing and chanting along. They sort of felt the song more than anybody before – well, it at least sounded like that

I hope you had an awesome evening with us. I surely did!

Thanks for coming and make sure you join us on Saturday to celebrate Swedish Midsommar!

PuB NiGHT Review: The Lamplighter

“But I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more, just to be the man who walks a thousand miles to fall down at your door …“ I still had these lyrics in mind when waking up this morning. Why this song? Of course, one of our favourite karaoke songs at PuB NiGHT!

Before all the crazy singing started, we spent a few hours in The Lamplighter, a pub in Gastown. They offer a broad range of drinks, so everybody could choose their favourite one. Everybody just settled in, when we heard a famous voice again “It’s time for some Bourbon Bingo!”. So, everybody got sheets and daubers (really cool pens to mark your numbers) and we played some rounds. This time, I was the lucky one who managed to get a round of shots for the INTERNeX gang.

Pub Night 1

The time passed by quickly while telling stories about Salt Spring Island, but also future plans were discussed. I am always happy to see some new faces at our table, as it was the case yesterday. No matter, if someone arrived yesterday or six months ago, there are always good talks. Since half of our PR-Team is leaving soon, many of you signed the Canadian flags of Mandy and Bart. What a nice souvenir for them!

A few hours later, it was time to say hello to our well-known karaoke DJ at the Met. The papers for desired songs were filled in fast and soon old and new teams had the chance to grab the microphone. As it was Bart’s last pub night, he gave again the best to entertain the pub with his all-time favourites. I am sure your heart will go on in Vancouver, even if you cannot sing in the Met in the next weeks.

I hope you enjoyed this night and I will see you all again next Wednesday!

PuB NiGHT Review: The Lamplighter

Thank you all for joining us last PuB NiGHT at the Lamplighter!

Our night started off at The Warehouse where we had some dinner first and some drinks of course. After we were done with our amazing dinner and drinks we went to the Lamplighter for some Bourbon Bingo.

foto van INTERNeX international exchange. The INTERNeX family was really lucky since 3 people of our group won something out of 5 rounds of Bingo. When we finished our free drinks we went to the Met for some karaoke as usual.

We sang songs like Bad Day, The Banana Song and All I Want For Christmas Is You.

We had a really fun night and I hope you did as well!

We are looking forward to see you Saturday for the Santa Claus Parade and The Christmas Market.

Review: PuB NiGHT at The Lamplighter

Yesterday’s PuB NiGHT was at the Lamplighter. It was great to see you all there, thank you all for coming!

The Lamplighter is part of the Donnelly Group. The pub organizes several events such as Pub trivia on Tuesdays and Bourbon Bingo on Wednesdays. It offers quite some beers and ciders. Besides that they also have a good selection of cocktails, with one on special every week.

Yesterday was Tess and Danielle’s last PuB NiGHT and we made sure that it was a good one. We started off with Bourbon bingo as it is one of our favourite things to do in Vancouver. As we were with a really big group and we had luck at our side, we won a lot of the rounds. Eventually it looked like it was us against the rest of the pub. In total we won 6 times, with one person winning 20 bourbon shots. After that we decided to go to The Met for some karaoke, because there is no last PuB NiGHT without karaoke! We sang our favourite song “We are all in this together” from High School Musical with the whole group. There were also people who were a bit more brave and sang some songs with just a few other people.

It was great that you all came to say goodbye to Tess and Danielle! See you in the Rockies or next week’s PuB NiGHT!
