What to do on the weekend?

Hello, bonjour and hola! The weekend is just about to start! As some of you cannot join our weekend trip to Salt Spring Island, you might want to get some inspiration on what to do on the weekend in and around Vancouver. The weather forecast seems promising, so why not exploring Vancouver’s nature and getting some fresh air?

First of all, there is of course the famous Stanley Park, a must-see for everyone in Vancouver. You can just take a walk on one of the many trails passing through the 400-hectare natural oasis. Enjoy the scenic views of water, mountains, sky and majestic trees along the Seawall and spot the many landmarks that are hidden in the park. Stanley Park is easily reachable by public transport.

Once you are already in Stanley Park, you can also visit the Vancouver Aquarium. Sea otters, sea lions and 50,000 other aquatic creatures are waiting for your arrival in Canada’s largest aquarium. It offers an amazing experience with a wide array of great animals. The admission fee is $39 for adults and $30 for students.

Another park is the Queen Elizabeth Park located in South Vancouver. It is situated on a little mountain, the highest point in Vancouver proper. From there, you have a great view over the city. Tipp: Visit the park in the evening to enjoy the sunset.

Last but not least, there is another highlight of Vancouver: The Capilano SuspensionBridge. This bridge is crossing Capilano River in the District of North Vancouver. It is 140 metres long and 70 metres above the river. Take your camera with you, because the famous bridge is an awesome photo spot. To enter the bridge, you have to pay a fee, but it is definitely worth it. The ticket is valid for an entire year, once you have purchased it for $43 or $34 (students). You can reach the park easily by bus.

Whatever you are up to, enjoy this weekend to the fullest!

See you on Wednesday at our PuB NiGHT!

INTERNeX Canada: Smart Saver Vancouver

What to do once one has seen most of the attractions Vancouver has to offer? Even though those are plenty and the weather being this nice even more enjoyable; sometimes you just want to do something different, right?

Spare time in Vancouver doesn’t have to be expensive. If you want to go out, maybe dress up for the occasion but still want to stay on budget you have to easy possibilities to find out what is going on in Van City.

Turn on your computer and take a look at the website of Tickets Tonight. This is part of why Vancouver is one of the most livable cities; the commitment of the tourist industry to offer an affordable variety of activities to the public. They offer same day or last minute deals for comedy shows, theater plays and so on. Sometimes you can really strike a bargain in the $20 per person range.

If you are more into live music then you should look up the LiveVan.com. It is a community-driven concert calendar and you can find concert tickets on sale or cheap live music in bars or restaurants in town. From time to time there are even offers for under $5 a person.

So check out the cheap deals and maybe you find something you like. Good luck!

Talk to you soon,

Annika

INTERNeX Canada: Culture Shock

Maybe you are going to going out? Partying and clubbing, are maybe one of the best options to see the differences between the countries and cultural issues. So, to say goodbye to the weekend: guide to survive in a Canadian Disco!

1) The schedule: the discos open at 10:00 more o less… until 2:00 or 3:00 pm. So, you have to keep in mind that all starts earlier. This schedule has a huge advantage… you can do a lot of things the following day!

2) Come back home: the busses stop running at 12:30 or 1:30. You can take the night bus, but the schedules are different. And be careful! If you are going to Downtown, Granville Street is closed for the cars and the buses… so the routes can change…

3) The prices: depends on your city of origin, tickets can be expensive for you… but there are some tricks. Sometimes you can get flyers for getting in for free. Other option is go to a Pub-Club Night. But don’t worry about it, in INTERNeX we know the best and cheapest places to go!

4) Dancing: well, you have to know one thing. Here in Canada, the influence of the hip-hop culture is very strong. The same thing happens in USA. Here, they are crazy for rap music and the people in the discos use to dance like the Afro-American people. It’s strange for us, because in Spain we have a lot of hip-hop influences (in cinema, music…) but we adapted them to an “European style”. When I see the people dancing like that, it always reminds meof an incredible Rize film… a documentary about krumping and clowing, two different styles of street dancing. You have to see it! Maybe you can get some ideas!

Rize – Trailer
What do you think? Can you survive to a Canadian disco?
Cheers,
Clara.

INTERNeX Canada: What to do on the weekend?

The weekend is finally here! If you haven’t been able to get out of the house because of the horrible weather, this weekend is finally your chance! I checked the weather forecast and they said it’s suppose to be mixed sun and clouds tomorrow. So what are you waiting for? I’ve got a list of fun things you can do this weekend.

Call of Paintball!

Have you ever imagined yourself  fighting battles in call of duty? Well you’ll get to experience this tomorrow when we go paintballing! This game will have you pumped and full of adrenaline as you run for your life and dodging. And you’ll be shot at for sure…but don’t worry, it’s just paint 😉 I can’t wait!

Late Night Movies at Rio Theater!

Bored of just watching movies at home? Why not go out for late night movie at Rio? Plus you get to DRINK! This place is an independent art and movie house and they even have a full service bar up and running so you must be 19+. All screenings are at 11:00 pm. Tickets are available online in advance or at the door for $8 or $6 if you come in costume. Tonight, they are playing Blue Velvet, and next Friday they are playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 😀

Take a walk at Stanley Park (maybe go on the Easter train ride?)

Why not take a stroll down Stanley Park? This giant park is great for outdoor adventures, there is always something going on. And on a sunny day, it’s even better! You can watch birds like the blue heron or just simply watch the beautiful scenic view in the sun. OR better yet, why not hop on the Easter train ride? You might feel out of place with all the small children, but hey, everyone is a child at heart 😉

Have a great weekend everybody!

Cheers,

Flora
