Smart Saver

This time in our weekly Smart Saver Series we will take you on a ride along the False Creek with the Aquabus.

The Aquabus is operating since 1983 starting with one 12-passenger fleet on the Hornby Street / Granville Island route. During the following years three more ferris made their way onto the water and the Aquabus expanded their routes to the eastern end of the Creek;  Yaletown, Stamp’s Landing and Science World. By 1992 the Cyquabuses were added to the range of the existing aquabuses. The Cyquabus is designed for the many cyclists using the Aquabus.

The Aquabus is not only a ferry which transports you from A to B, but also a lovely ‘sightseeing‘ tour around the False Creek. If you want you can take the route from ‘the village’ to ‘hornby street’. This is a beautiful way to see more of the diversity of the city and to enjoy te beautiful view over the mountains. Once you are at the hornby stop you can make your way to English Bay and enjoy a walk along the beach towards Stanley park.

Depending on the route you want to make the tickets start at $3.25 to $5.50. The mini-cruise cost you $8 and takes about 20min. A day ticket is $15 and very handy if you want get off and different stops during your cruise.

Enjoy your mini-cruise around False Creek

INTERNeX Canada: Culture shock

One of my favorites things has been always walk around and get lost. Yes maybe it can sound weird but I firmly believe it’s the best way to know the city, the neighborhood, the essence of some place. When you see the real behavior of the people who are living there, where the people usually buy …streets where there are no tourist at all, where there are no one taking pictures… that’s for my the real essence of a city. When I used to live in Rome I just started walking around and maybe spend four or five hours just walking and never realized all the time that I spent.

When you live in your city or you’ve been living for long time in the same place, the most of the times you just walk the same streets just to go to your office, gym, house… and you don’t have enough time to discover a new way to arrive.

My personal recommendation… just give yourself some time to get lost in your city and walk for first time in some street you never walk before. Open your eyes and your ears and just enjoy the feeling of discovering something new in your own city!

I don’t know you but I would spend my whole life just traveling and discovering new places, but sometimes it’s just not possible to be all the time traveling! So if you feel in the same way, and right now you are back home, go out and discover all the special corners that your city offers.Get lost in your city or if you prefer, you can always come back to Vancouver 🙂

Cheers,

Irene

INTERNeX Canada: How were your holidays?

Happy 2013 everyone! It’s been awhile, hasn’t it?

It’s a new year, meaning new resolutions and new goals, but before we get to that, let me tell you about my trip to Hong Kong for the past two weeks.

It’s a completely different world with so many people everywhere all the time and skyscrapers everywhere! I love that I can simply walk downstairs from my apartment and have 50 different restaurants and 5 different malls at my fingertips. That’s pretty much all I did for two weeks was eat, eat and eat. I got to try different foods like dim sum, snails, different kinds of seafood and buffets!

I also got the chance to reconnect with my family and spend the holidays with them. My mom’s side of the family is huge so it was really great to catch up with them once again. I got to do things that I normally wouldn’t have such as celebrating my grandma’s 90th birthday with a huge party for her and counting down New Years Eve at my cousin’s barbecue!

Though Hong Kong is my original home, I still got to become a tourist and visit some of the most popular attractions. My favourite places are The Peak or Victoria Harbour where the view of the skyline is just incredible. It’s something that everyone must see and kind of makes Vancouver look like a village.

I also got the chance to visit the big Buddha where you have to take a cable car to reach and a place that never fails to make me happy: Disneyland!

The last two weeks was a good getaway from all the stress and rain, but sometimes it was just too crazy and I did miss Vancouver a lot. If I could only merge the two cities together, it would be perfect!

How were your holidays? Did you go home to spend it with your family or stay in Vancouver?

Cheers,

Queenie

Picture of the week!

This week we have a picture from the new intern at INTERNeX; Claudia! Besides that Claudia is on the picture you can also see Gastown’s (a district in Vancouver Downtown) most famous landmark, The Steam Clock. It is a great tourist highlight and it is located on the corner of Cambie and Water Street. It is one of the world’s only functioning steam clocks. It is powered by steam from an underground system of pipes that supply steam.

Every quarter of an hour the Gastown steam clock sounds its whistle and you can watch the steam shoot from the vents at the top of the clock. If you look through the glass panels on the side of the steam clock you will see how the steel balls are raised to the top of the clock under steam power and then they slowly fall to create the power to make the steam clock work.

Do you have a picture of something typical Canadian, beautiful nature or something else that made your experience here in Canada complete?  Send it to pr@internexcanada.com with a small description, and maybe your picture will be the picture of the week next time!
