INTERNeX Canada: Where to watch the Olympic games

The Olympic Games are ON and for those interested I found a short list where you can watch the Olympic games live in Vancouver, click here. Or you can stream the Games at home on CBC Olympics.

Most important update of the Sochi Games is that GERMANY has the most gold medals at the moment. However Norway and the US have the most medals in total with 13 medals. Canada has 10 medals in total with 4 gold medals.

Good to know, the finals are on February 20th at 9am for women and on February 23rd for men at 4am.

Hope you are enjoying your Saturday and do not forget to come out in the evening for skating on the ice.

Whistler Cup 2010

Whistler Cup is an international ski event organized by the Whistler Ski Club and hosted by Whistler Blackcomb. Having completed its  17th year, Whistler Cup has grown to become the largest and most important ski race in North America, and internationally, for athletes aged 11 – 14 years. With hundreds of young athletes from 23 countries, the Whistler Cup brings together children from many different cultures around the world.  Following the success of Whistler as a host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Whistler Cup is the must-attend race for athletes and partners not only in the US and Canada, but around the world. For many of our young Canadian athletes this is the first opportunity they have to meet and ski with the world’s best.

This is where the Olympic dreams start! North America’s only FIS-sanctioned race for juvenile ski racers age 11-14. Taking place up on Whistler Mountain April 9th -11th. Now in it’s 18th year, the 2010 Whistler Cup event promises to be a banner year, with 21 national teams and 375 racers already confirmed!

Women’s Gold Medal Game

Canada captured a third consecutive Olympic women’s ice hockey title on Thursday, defeating arch-rival United States 2-0 in an emotional championship match on home ice. Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice in the first period and goaltender Shannon Szabados made 28 saves to bring Canada the victory and bragging rights in a border war arch-rivalry between the sport’s only two women’s powers. The Americans, two-time reigning world champions, settled for a silver medal while Finland took bronze with an earlier 3-2 overtime triumph over Sweden.

“We have no excuses. They played well,” US coach Mark Johnson said. “Their young goaltender played well. She didn’t give us many second opportunities. She came in with the pressure of a nation on her and she never cracked. Szabados surrendered only one goal while making 50 saves in Canada’s undefeated run to gold. “She was awesome,” Canada’s Gillian Apps said. “She was amazing – no other words to describe it.”

The Americans had hoped to spoil Canada’s party on home ice as the Canadians had done to them in Salt Lake City in 2002, but now they must wait until Sochi for another chance at Olympic revenge. Better luck next time US!

Canada’s First Olympic Gold!!

So i’ve been bitten…by the Olympic bug that is! Most of my weekend was spent glued in front of some form of a screen in order to catch every nail breaking and teeth grinding Olympic moment. I would say I am more of a summer sports fanatic myself; however, there is no denying the Winter Games buzz that is reverberating around the entire world. I have not been able to tear myself away from both the men’s and women’s Moguls, the speed skating and of course the figure skating! I was fortunate enough to catch two out of the total three glorious moments for Canada in making it to the podium. Woohoo Go Canada! Just in case you aren’t aware but Canada has already won 3 medals-one gold, one silver and one bronze- staying strong behind the US, Germany, Switzerland and France. Our Olympic gold Medallist was Alexandre Bilodeau in the free style skiing-men’s Moguls with a winning score of 26.75. His run was phenomenal in terms of his turns and the amount of air he got on his jumps! For sure the gold standard!
Jennifer Heil, who many thought was the one and only contender for the Gold in the ladies’ moguls, ended up with a silver medal in the event. Some sensed a little bit of disapointment by Heil during the flower ceremony but we are all proud of her amazing accomplishment anyway. Then last but not least the wonderful Kristina Groves, just with sheer determination was she able to hold onto her bronze medal with a +2.31 second difference from the top time. All of these events were truly thrilling for all of us spectators…maybe 2012 i’ll be in the stands cheering on the world athletes in London. A girl can dream right?
