What to do on the weekend

Only a few hours to go and then it’s weekend again! There is a lot to do this weekend, so make the best out of it by using this as an inspiration for your plans.

This is the weekend of the festivals and street parties and some are for free. If you would like to experience one of the many festivals in Vancouver, then you can join INTERNeX at the Khatsahlano street party on Saturday. This is a huge one-day street party held in Kitsilano. During this street party you can listen to one of the many artists on one of the stages. Besides that there are also a lot of food trucks, an artisan market and many demonstrations and activities at this street party.

If you would rather practice your salsa moves, then you should definitely go to Carnaval del Sol on Saturday or Sunday. This festival is part of the Latin festival and features live music with about 400 artists and dance performances. Besides that you could enjoy the music at the Summer Sunday Concert Series in Burnaby. Are you more interested in classic music? Vancouver has that covered for you too! On Sunday you can go to Symphony in the Park where you can listen to a free concert of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

If you are more interested in theatre rather than music, then you could go to Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival or Theatre Under the Stars. During Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival you can watch one of the Shakespeare plays in Vanier Park. If you would rather see a more modern theatre play, then you can go to Theatre Under the Stars this weekend. This weekend they are playing Marry Poppins. These performances are a bit more pricy, but are definitely worth it.

It is supposed to be good weather on Saturday and Sunday, so you could also try out the Grouse Grind, which opened 2 weeks ago. If you are planning on doing the Grouse Grind, do not forget to bring enough water with you, as it is a rough hike.

Whatever you are planning on doing this weekend, have a lot of fun! See you at the Khatsalano street party or at next week’s PuB NiGHT!

What to do on the weekend?

The week is almost over and people are starting to get ready for the weekend. I hope you all had a great week and are ready for an awesome weekend as well. Got any plans for the weekend yet? No? There is a lot to do this weekend, so that also means there is a lot of choice for you!

First of all, the INTERNeX family is going to celebrate Chinese New Year at the Chinese New Year Parade this Sunday. 15965745_10154886634952103_8586645978562399909_n
However, if you do not have time to go to the parade, there are plenty of events left to attend as well. It already starts at the 28th of January with a cooking demonstration in Lonsdale Quay Market. After that you can also watch the traditional Eye-Dotting Ceremony at 2 pm or the Lion Dance after.

On Sunday you can also show your best moves during the VSO New Music Festival: On a Wire! You can enjoy an amazing electric music performance of Bramwell Tovey and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. If you love electric music, you should definitely check this out! The music festival takes place in Orpheum at 601 Smithe Street. It starts at 7.30 pm, so you can even plan other activities during the day. Please make sure to buy tickets beforehand to ensure a spot. Tickets cost $30 for an adult and if you still got a student card, you can get a ticket for only $22.50.

This weekend the event Cuisine & Confessions takes place in Vancouver Playhouse. The performance is a combination of a kitchen and circus. Make sure not to wear your nicest clothes, as their will be food throwing involved. Even though this performance is quite pricy, it is still worth your time. Prices range from $45 to $60.

Another event that you may have noticed this week is Street Food City. During Street Food City you can find over 25 food trucks in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery. The food trucks mostly offer local food for a pretty good price. This weekend will be your last chance to try local food at one of these food trucks. If you go there, eat as much as you can and tell your flatmates that you will not join dinner, as you will definitely leave the event with a full stomach. Time for a break? While enjoying your meal or taking a break, you can listen to some music.

I hope to see you on Sunday at the Chinese New Year Parade. If not, have a great weekend anyways and see you at PuB NiGHT!

INTERNeX Canada: Smart Saver Vancouver – Vancouver Inspiration Pass

This week’s smart saver is a good one, I must say!

So you’ve always wanted to visit the Vancouver Aquarium, the Science World, or perhaps, listen to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, or watch the Vancouver Opera… but of course, the bummer is that everything costs money!

It might not seem pricey at first, but as some of you may have found, spending money in Vancouver is pretty easy to do.

The Vancouver Inspiration Pass is for those who want to explore the city and go to all those popular attractions and events, all for FREE!  To get this pass, follow these two simple steps:

  1. All you have to do is first sign up for a Vancouver Library Card which you can either do online here, or at one of the Vancouver Public Library branches.
  2. Then, using your library card, you can check out the Vancouver Inspiration Pass (like you would do with a book) for TWO weeks! This pass gives you general admission or concert tickets to any of these activities for free during that period of time.

That sounds like an awesome deal, right?

For more information, go to the website HERE. Happy exploring!

Cheers,

Queenie
