New `Kids` on the Blog

We’re happy to announce a new member of the INTERNeX family, who arrived this week. A really warm welcome goes to Samantha. I really had a great chat with her where she told me some facts about herself. Of course I’ll share them all with you guys 🙂

Samantha is 22 years old and originally from a small village, only 90 inhabitants as she said, close to Frankfurt in Germany. I’m sure you’ve already heard of Frankfurt because of the huge international airport as well as the fact that it is an important financial centre. Just a side fact; now back to Samantha. After finishing her apprenticeship and subsequently her diploma (in Germany it’s called “Fachabitur”) she decided to become a full time traveller for the next months.
In my opinion that definitely sounds amazing. After spending a few weeks in Iceland she has now seized the opportunity to gain more experiences and grow beyond herself in Canada.

Samantha is participating in our volunteer program for 5 weeks and works in the same animal hospital as Sophie. You know? The one with the cute baby cats 😉 Seems like this is the place to be 🙂
And there’s more to it; her motto is definitely “great times ahead”. After her time in Canada she plans to travel to 7!!! more countries all around the globe.
But for now she’s really interested in spending time in the Canadian nature, get to know the Canadian way of life and experience Canadian culture herself every day.
Since right now she’s still a bit afraid of spending time alone in such an unknown city, which is understandable in any case, feel free to form a group and spend some time together. It’s so much fun getting to know new place or try unknown activities together. Such a new place can always create a strange feeling but as time goes by you’ll get used to it and in the end one don’t want to leave anymore. I can assure you from my own personal experience .

That’s it for now – I’m sure you’ll get the chance for another chat with Samantha at today’s pubnight at Malone’s Taphouse, 6pm 🙂

Have a great day:)

New `Kids` on the Blog

Hello and welcome to our New Kids on the blog – and above all a really warm welcome to Sophie, our new candidate. Actually she’s already in Vancouver for two weeks but since she’s such a friendly and open-minded person I would not like to withhold her from you.

So let’s talk about Sophie. First of all we’re really happy that she found her way to beautiful Canada spending her time with us. 🙂
Sophie is 20 years old and originally from a small village close to Hannover in Germany. She’s staying in Vancouver for 2 months where she’s doing her best work while helping out in an animal shelter in Richmond. There are mostly little baby cats; doesn’t that sound cute???
In any case, she really enjoys her time over there. So Sophie is taking part in our volunteer program. Since she will be placed in a host family in Richmond she’s also really excited for all the upcoming adventures and to spend her time in places like Vancouver Downtown, Gastown or at the beaches such as Kitsilano or Sunset beach. Her bucket list also includes a bike ride with her host family through Stanley Park as well as a trip to Whistler.
As many of us did she already graduated from highschool and decided to do a Gap Year before continuing with university.
She always wanted to come to Vancouver to meet new people and learn more about the Canadian culture and way of life. As far as i can say Sophie has a really interesting point of view since she told me that with this stay abroad she aims to get a new perspective on things and new ideas; especially regarding her study plans.

Get out of your own comfort zone; she said to me and i think this is a very good starting point for a successful stay abroad. I really hope she’s enjoying her time and can pursue all her goals!!
She actually came to Canada without any specific expectation; and here’s the next inspiring opinion; without any expectation you will not be disappointed. She’s only hoping for a great time with many new experiences and opportunities and a great hostfamily. And the last point already came true.

Let’s meet at today’s pubnight 🙂 6pm at Tap&Barell Olympic Village!

Have a nice day 🙂

New ‘Kids’ on the Blog

And that’s definitely great news.
Welcome to a new blogpost and a really warm welcome to our three new candidates, from Germany, the Netherlands and from Wales. It’s really great to have you here with us!! 🙂

Ladies first, so let’s start with Lena. I just had an amazing long talk with her today where she told me many interesting things about herself. Lena is 23 years old from a small town close to Hamburg. She already finished her apprenticeship in trade forwarding a few years ago and was able to gain work experiences in this field of work. Since she quit her last job and has some free time until she will start her new job at the end of October she seized the opportunity to spend her time in beautiful Canada. The moment Canada opened the border she decided to travel as soon as possible – and that’s what she did 🙂
With INTERNeX she’s participating in the volunteering program in the area of ecological conservation for 2 weeks. After doing some great work for the Canadian natural environment she’s planning a trip to Vancouver Island. She already rented a car for this week – bold AND independent 😉 She wanted to see Vancouver Island especially Victoria and Tofino since school but what’s travelling without saving money first?
For this time in Canada she worked four years and is now finally able to travel on her own independently while gaining some experience and improving her language skills abroad. She always wanted to get to know the Canadian lifestyle, the culture as well as the experience travelling alone and doing things she never ever did before. Sounds like a plan!!!

The next newcomer is Nico, 22 years old from the Netherlands; or actually also Germany but since he’s studying at Fontys, Venlo and lives in the Netherlands we’ll leave it at that. As a marketing management student he’s excited to gain experiences while doing a placement in his field of study. This placement is part of his studies which I think is a great opportunity to live abroad while studying. He came to Canada on a friends recommendation – and he actually has the advantage of having friends from Germany here in Vancouver. Besides that, he also made the decision for Canada because he wanted to explore the mentality, the nature and the Canadian culture. Since he already fell in love with this city, after his 4 months long placement he’s planning to stay longer to explore the country. Isn’t that great?
With this experience he aims to develop personally and professionally which might be important for his future. And there are definitely some more places on his bucket list – how could it be otherwise; the Rocky Mountains as well as Vancouver Island. As you can see these places are very popular and definitely worth a visit 😉

To complete these three; Welcome Tom from Wales.

He’s 21 years old and just finished his bachelors in media and communication at Cardiff university. Which means the second marketing specialist in our round 😉 He’s doing his placement in the same organization as Nico which I think is pretty cool since these guys can work together. Originally his plan was to stay abroad last year but because of the pandemic he also had to postpone. He chose Canada for multiple reasons; firstly the fact that most of Canada is English speaking made the communication for him as a native speaker so much easier. He’s also really excited to finally be in the country he wanted to travel to for such a long time and getting a first insight into Canadian daily life. For him it’s definitely a great chance to add some new experiences to his CV while learning so much from the people he’s working with. Additionally, Tom told me that his goal is to improve his confidence as well as living independently. But Vancouver isn’t the only place he’s going to visit. He’s planning on going to Banff, Whistler and if he get the chance to do a Rocky Mountains trip. There’s more… his bucket list also says; Toronto after his time in Vancouver. Sounds like a perfect trip.

I hope all of you guys have an amazing time in Vancouver 🙂

Enjoy!!!

New kid on the blog – Tatjana Schmitt

Welcome back! I know it has been quite a while since you heard from us, but the reason for this is the same story for everyone in the world at the moment – COVID-19. But now the time has come. We are very happy to be able to give a sign of life to you guys.
Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. 🙂

My name is Tatjana, 23 years old from Germany and I am the new PR- Coordinator at INTERNeX. I am studying Social Sciences at the Ruhr-University in Bochum. I already finished my bachelor’s degree except for the practicum as part of my studies. Sounds kind of confusing I know because normally you must do the practicum before being able to finish or writing the thesis. But as I mentioned before this pandemic mixed everything up.
Actually, my practicum was planned for 2020 but since I wasn’t able to fly to Canada because of the very strict border restrictions as well as the health requirements I had to postpone my stay. Although some may think it sounds a bit crazy to wait for a practicum abroad for over a year without knowing how the situation will turn out, but I had the feeling that it is worth it. And it was. Right now, I am finally able to start my practicum as the new PR- Coordinator with INTERNeX. Although I have to work remotely at the moment I am very much looking forward and am more than grateful to have the opportunity for this practicum and for all the new experiences and challenges I will face.
Four years ago my “relationship” with INTERNeX already started. I was in Vancouver volunteering at the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC. Because this opportunity was also organized by INTERNeX I already made great experiences with this company back then. I really enjoyed all the trips and kept the international experience I had back then in good memory. The Rocky Mountain trip was definitely the most beautiful and memorable thing I did and I am really glad I joined…and for sure I absolutely fell in love with this country and especially with Vancouver. For me from that first moment the decision was made – I had to go back to Vancouver and use the practicum as an opportunity to combine gaining work experience, improvement of my language skills and getting to know the Canadian culture and lifestyle better. But what is the best part for me about Vancouver?
I think this city is such a special place as there is this big city life right next to the ocean and the huge mountains around the Vancouver area. It is like all in one. Additionally, the people are very friendly and open- minded which makes living here an adventure of a lifetime.
Under normal circumstances as an PR-Coordinator my job would be to organize the activities, pub nights, trips and events and be the first point of contact for all the people staying with INTERNeX in Vancouver. And for sure joining the Pub nights. 🙂 This means working in this beautiful city while exploring the Canadian nature. For me it sounds like a dream.

Even if I am not in Canada at the moment it will give me a lot of pleasure to see what’s going on in Vancouver and support INTERNeX with all the different tasks. And for sure I will try my best to give you a first impression of what to expect in Vancouver as soon as travel will be allowed again.
And from my own experience I can say the wait will be worth it. Canada is a beautiful place to be.

I am very much looking forward to the remaining time of my practicum. Let’s make the best of this situation.

New ‘Kids’ on the Blog

It’s finally time to meet our three new travellers joining the INTERNeX family this week!
Luckily you’ve got enough time to read all about our new girls, now that most of you are stuck at home anyways. Yes right, that is another funny story – Vancouver and snow? No Nadja, don’t even hope for it, it won’t happen anyways. Here we are, public transport being cancelled and downtown in chaos as if an apocalypse is about to happen.
So I got my day started with a little snow-hike to actually get to work.
Anyways, this is not about me ;).
Let’s take a look at the three newbies.
image1Starting of with Kris, she is a Canadian expert already. As she used to live here during her exchange year in high school. Very impressive and the living proof, that people are always coming back to our beloved Canada at some point. Kris found herself a second family during her last stay, which made the accommodation pretty easy this time! We are very glad, that you decided to also join the INTERNeX family! Welcome home!
The next new addition is Julia. Just as Kris, she came all the way from Germany to gain some precious work experiences over here. And a very interesting fact is, that she already stayed in Korea for quite a while. I hope, you are prepared to answer many questions about that, because personally I am very very interested to hear all about that. Besides getting to know the city life of Vancouver, Julia also has Seattle and Victoria on her bucket list. So if you have any kind travel advices or must sees, I am sure she will appreciate it!
Our last newbie of the week, is not from Germany for a change, but from Austria! Lovely Sophie over here, just finished high school and is taking her time off now to figure out what she wants. Great choice to come here Sophie, and what this will be a great and unique experience – I can promise you that. But be careful, Vancouver or Canada in general are very addictive :). As this is her first long-time stay abroad, lets make her feel like home already.

I am sure you guys are going to love these three lovely ladies!
And ladies, don’t worry, the INTERNeX family is always happy to welcome the new members <3.
Obviously I would love to see you guys at tonights Pub-Night at Steamworks at 7pm. But as the snow continues to fall (like crazy btw), please keep in mind that your safety is the priority here. Please consider that before  leaving the house tonight.
If there are an questions/problems whatever don’t hesitate to contact us!
I hope to see you soon.
Cheers,
— Nadja  xx
