What to do on the weekend?

Almost weekend!! There are lots of events this weekend in Vancouver!

First of all, some of us will go to the Vancouver Riptides to watch their first Frisbee game of the year, so it will be very busy.

There are also some other events this weekend. For example, tomorrow it is Earth Day. To celebrate this day there will be a number of events around town. Screen Shot 2017-04-21 at 11.28.57 AM.pngThe two biggest ones are the Party for the Planet in Surrey and the Earth Day Parade in Vancouver. Party for the Planet is a family friendly event at the Surrey City Hall. It features environmental information booths, activities for children and lots of live entertainment. Around the second half of the afternoon there will be live music for older folks. The Earth Day Parade will start at 1 PM at the corner of Commercial Drive and Grandview Highway, after that it will go north and finishes at Grandview Park, where a small festival will take place until 5 PM.

On Sunday the Vancouver Sun Run will take place and starts at 9 AM. This is the largest 10 km race of Canada and also one of the most beautiful. It will start at the corner of Georgia and Burrard and it goes to Stanley Park, English Bay, Burrard Street Bridge, Cambie Bridge and to BC Place Stadium. The views include the mountains, ocean, beaches, skyscrapers and bridges.

I hope to see all of you this weekend!

What to do on the weekend?

It’s Friday, which means we are going to give you some inspiration for what you can do this weekend to make the most of it!15136376048_b8fee42104_o

The INTERNeX gang is going to the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park on Sunday to do some sightseeing. It’s the highest point in Vancouver and therefore it gives you a beautiful view over the park, city and the mountains on the North Shore. If you want to join us, check out the event page for the meeting spot and time!

On Saturday the annual TEDxStanleyPark will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre from 10:00 am till 6:00 pm. It is one of the largest TED conferences in the world and centres around finding optimistic solutions for humanity’s tough challenges. This year’s theme is about “inspiring brave actions.” If you like motivational speeches and gaining new insights this is definitely an event you should consider visiting.

On Saturday you also have the opportunity to visit Winter Farmers Markets. The Nat Bailey Winter Farmers market is located at the Nat Bailey Stadium on Ontario Street and the Royal City Winter Farmers Market is located in Tipperary Park in New Westminster.

img_1231It’s a pretty good weekend if you’re into arts. Coastal First Nations Dance Festival is celebrating their 10th anniversary. You can visit the festival the entire weekend at the UBC Museum of Anthropology and the tickets for the Festival Stage Performances include museum admission, so that’s a nice bonus. Another option is Festival du Bois, held at the Parc Mackin in Coquitlam. This festival celebrates Francophone and French Canadian culture with music, dance, traditional food, entertaining activities and much more. Lastly, there is the Chutzpah! Festival from February 16th to March 13th at the Norman Rothstein Theatre and other venues in and around Vancouver. The festival is put on by the Jewish Community and shows music, dance, comedy and theatre.

If you rather do something a bit more relaxed and indoors, you can always go and check out Metropolis at Metrotown. It’s the largest shopping centre of British Colombia and the third largest of Canada. There are 450 shops and services, so everybody should be able to find something there!

Have a good weekend and I hope to see you all on Sunday at the Queen Elizabeth Park!

What to do on the weekend

It’s Friday again! Time for a new what to do on the weekend blogpost. It’s going to be as sunny as last week, so time to get out and do something!

screen-shot-2017-02-24-at-11-46-19-amFirst of all, some of us are going to see the last game of the season of the Junior A Team Coquitlam Express. It will be a great game to watch, so we are really looking forward to it! If you still want to come, then send us a message before 3PM! After that you can always still book tickets yourself, but then there is no guarantee that you can sit next to us.

Another event tonight is the Grand Finale of the Battle of the Brush. It is a live painting competition in the Heritage Hall on Main Street. The finalists will start painting around 8:30PM, after that the audience can vote on the winner of the competition and the winner will be announced around 11:15PM. Sounds like a really cool event to join!

Farmers Markets are an amazing place to buy fresh vegetables and fruits and a lot of other things. There is one on Sunday in Hastings Park, which is in East Vancouver, so close to downtown. Another good option to go is the Farmers Market in the Nat Bailey Stadium. This one is on Saturday and is next to the Queen Elizabeth Park, so you could make a big day trip. Both markets open at 10AM and close around 2PM.

This weekend it is the last weekend of the Talking Stick Festival. It is a festival to explore aboriginal culture through their arts. They show this through fairs, theatre, dance, film, music and nightlife. It is an amazing event to get to know more about the aboriginal art and First Nation’s culture.

Screen Shot 2017-02-24 at 11.48.10 AM.pngAnother event that ends this weekend is the Flight of the Dragon at FlyOver Canada. So if you still want to fly over China and Canada for the price of one ticket, go there this weekend before it ends!

I am looking forward to see you tonight or on the next PuB NiGHT!
