What to do on the weekend?

Who’s ready for spring? I definitely am, especially after this week of warmer temperatures and the sun showing its face again for more than just 2 days in a row! When you walk around you hear the birds chirping and you see the trees blossom, flowers starting to bloom.

There’s one way to celebrate the signs of spring this weekend and that is at the big picnic of the cherry blossom festival in David Lam Park. ‘This event honours the Honorable Dr. David Lam’s donation of cherry trees and celebrates friendship as we are all friends under the cherry tree.’ Bring your picnic blanket and some snacks to share, sit under the beautiful blooming cherry trees and enjoy music among other entertainment in the park. There’ll be food vendors around in case you don’t want to bring any food yourself. Even though the last week treated us well weather wise, I advise to check out the forecast before you leave the house on Saturday since it can change within minutes. It’s best to be prepared for all kinds of scenarios here in Vancouver! So, make sure to bring a rain jacket and proper shoes with you. If it gets too rainy we won’t sit on the grass, but we’ll still enjoy the event for a while until we maybe find another place to hang out at that’s warm and dry. I can’t wait to celebrate with you! 🙂

If this event is not enough for you and you want to go chase more cherry trees here’s a cool article for you to check out that tells you about 21 fantastic spots to enjoy the cherry blossoms all over Vancouver: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/where-to-see-cherry-blossoms-in-vancouver

Allergic to cherry trees? Maybe try doing something indoors this weekend. 😉 How about watching an Ice Hockey game at the Rogers arena? This Sunday there’s a game between the Vancouver Canucks and LA Kings. Definitely something you should experience while you’re here. I’d say Ice Hockey is one of the National sports in Canada, super popular! There sometimes are fights on the ice, broken hockey sticks, lots of action, fun entertainment during the breaks and an amazing atmosphere in the stadium that you don’t want to miss. Even people who I’ve spoken to that don’t know much about Ice Hockey, really enjoyed the games, so why not give it a try and see how you like it?
You better do it fast as well, there’s not going to be a lot more games in Vancouver this season, the last one is on April 8th, which is next week! So, take a buddy and go watch a game. 🙂

Whatever you decide to do, enjoy your weekend exploring the city and tell me all about it next Pub Night! 🙂

See you then,

Laura 🙂

What to Do on the Weekend?

Wow…How is it possible that my first week is already over? I was able to collect so many new impressions and I kind of still can’t believe I’m in Canada now. But I am really relieved and glad that my jetlag wasn’t too bad. That’s why I’m ready to explore Vancouver and if you don’t have any plans for the weekend yet you should keep on reading as I’m giving you some ideas what you can do in the next few days. 🙂

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESTomorrow is gonna be the first INTERNeX trip I planned for you guys and for this occasion I chose Granville Island. I think it’s good to start with and it’s supposed to be one of the must-go places while being in Vancouver. The main reason why lots of people go there is the public market where you can get loads of food. Besides fruits, fish, cheese and more we can check out several shops. I also got the hint to try out “salmon candy” – it’s a must for all fish lovers! (Even if I don’t like fish at all, I’m thinking about trying it out!)

We meet at Yaletown-Roundhouse Station at 2:30 pm and afterwards we’re going to take the aquabus to get to the island. So I hope to see some of you tomorrow!

Another event you can check out this weekend is the Vancouver International Dance Festival. It celebrates its 20th anniversary in march and offers lots of shows and dance classes. Some of them are even for free. If you’re into dancing this might be something for you!

For those of you who just feel like going for a relaxed walk – you should check out Queen Elizabeth park. It’s a nice spot to explore some gardens or just catch some views and I guess it’s a good place to watch a sunset.

What to do on the Weekend?

We are leaving an incredibly busy week behind us.
Bertil and Anton won the Cambie-Pong tournament (yeeeeyy – I am honestly very very very proud of you guys!), we had many heartbreaking goodbyes and Vancouver’s streets are no longer streets, but rivers.

Next week is going to be just as busy and also very special to me.
As most of you already know: My time at INTERNeX is coming to an end, as Friday will be my last day of work.
And since there is no new PR-Coordinator here yet, the following weeks will be a little less busy. But don’t you worry – there will be Pub-Nights!
We will be welcoming a new PR-Coordinator in the first week of March, till then please be patient ;-).

However, this weekend we still have a great event lined up for you.
Tomorrow we’ll be heading back out in the snow and try out something new. And by new I mean, I haven’t done it before either. But hey, how hard could it possibly be to put two tennis-rackets on your feet and walk with that right? 😀
No, I don’t want to scare you away. Multiple people told me, that it actually is pretty easy. Apparently just like walking.
Therefore make sure to get yourself a ticket and join us for an adventurous day on Cypress Mountain!
You will find a link and all the details, concerning duration, meeting point and everything else in the same named Facebook event (which is: Snowshoeing on Cypress Mountain).
If there are any more questions, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sunday is the big game day. The spectacular Super Bowl will be on. Since I literally don’t have any idea about what is going on in American Football-games, I am clearly the wrong person to give you a detailed overview about what is happening. Buuut Demi Lovato will be singing the National Anthem, that’s all I know :-D.
Anyways, in case you want to watch it, you better hurry to make a reservation in on of the many locations that will be showing the game.

I hope you guys are having a fantastic weekend and I’ll see you tomorrow!
Oh … and … Go Team (or something like that :D).

Cheers,

— Nadja xx

What to do on the Weekend?

Another week is over and gives us the great opportunity to explore the beautiful city we get to live in.

As you probably already noticed, this weekend is all about the Chinese New Years festival. Wherever you go, you will find the red lanterns and probably some Chinese signs with a rat on it. Obviously, Chinatown will be hosting the most spectacular events, this weekend. But you won’t be able to escape it any other place in town either ;-).

As the Chinese culture is a very important part of Vancouver´s community, I strongly recommend walking around with your eyes wide open. There are many cultural differences, which we might not always understand. But all the myths and story’s (yes, I’ve done some research), are beautiful and remind me why I love travelling so much. It gives you a different perspective, you don’t just get to learn facts, but also feelings and the meaning that are transferred through ceremonies, traditions and beliefs.
However, instead of buying a ticket to Beijing, we get to go with a way cheaper option instead. The festival starts off today (January 24) with a ceremony at the Buddhist Temple, which is the largest one in North America. So, besides the celebrations this weekend, it might be very interesting to see and explore.
Followed up by Saturday, which is the actual New Years Day! As the tradition wants it, you have the chance to see the famous Lion Dance at the River District. I don’t really have words to explain it, as I am not an expert myself (obviously). But just give it a Youtube search, trust me it is a very interesting thing to watch! And last but not least there will be a big parade happening on Sunday.
And this is were the INTERNeX gang will get together again (Sunday, January 26). Apparently together with 700 other people, that also decided to join the INTERNeX community. Seems like we’ve gone very big all of a sudden :D. (For the ones that don’t know what I am talking about, just check out the Facebook event.) We will meet up in front of the International Village Mall and from there we’ll try to find the perfect spot to watch everything that is going on. Afterwards we will explore the Chinese Gardens. And besides the fact, that is quite beautiful around there in the first place, we also get to see some unique shows and of course fantastic Chinese food that will be on sale. I am just hoping our 700 new friends, don’t have the same idea.

As you might see I am super excited to see all of this in person, to see the stunning costumes and the slight insight of a very different culture and I am very happy to do it together with you guys!

But no matter if you are celebrating the year of the rat this weekend or not, I hope you have a fantastic one.
See you all soon!

Cheers,
— Nadja xx

How was your weekend?

Once again, the weekend was just flying by and we are back to our daily routine. And personally, I am looking back at a crazy weekend.
I’ve got a very special visitor from Germany here at the moment, so we spent the weekend with all the stuff you “need to see” around here. And for once, I actually get to be a tourist here in Vancouver one more time. IMG_5701.JPG
On Saturday our lovely Sophie invited us to a very special occasion, she finally turned 19! Therefore once again, Happy Birthday from the whole INTERNeX family!
On Saturday, the INTERNeX crew went to play Lasertag. One of the events I have been waiting for, for a while now.
And to be frank, I only had one mission: Beating the Swedish self named “Lastertag-king”, just you know … because :D.
Anyways we got to play in an huge area over 3 floors and with new and overwhelming equipment. In three different games, we got to prove our fighting skills, by not only shooting with laser, but with using different special features as well. Turned out, no shield could have saved me. And if there would be any important Lasertag-war ever, you should probably not let me fight in it. Except if you are trying to loose, or challenge yourself :D. So you might figure, that I failed my very personal challenge to beat Bertil. 508c336f-fa65-4c9b-ac5e-0f16373806fa.JPGAnd not only that, I think I came last in pretty much every game. And yes I was very disappointed about myself, please be kind and don’t rub it in my face, even if I do deserve it .. at least a bit!
However, we had a fantastic time and I wouldn’t have thought that this would be sooo exhausting. I actually had to change my clothes afterwards, as all of this hiding, hunting and running around was worth a weeks work-out :D. On the way home, we took a nice  long sightseeing trip in the bus towards the opposite side of downtown. Now you might wonder, why would she do that? Well, I do have two explanations… either the bus driver randomly went the wrong direction or someone (maybe me) decided to take the wrong bus… I think the answer is obvious .. it was option 1 :P.
Thank you guys so much for joining, it was great seeing you all again.
Anyways, I am currently taking my time to recover from this active and adventurous weekend and hopefully see you all on Wednesday at Steamworks, 7pm. Till then, go out and enjoy the beautiful snow <3.
See you soon
Cheers,
