PuB NiGHT Review: The Beaver Bar

BINGOOOOO! That is what we heard several times at The Beaver Bar yesterday night. What a great time we spent with you!

Yesterday’s pub was not that easy to find. The Beaver is not only a bar, but also a hostel full of international travellers. A huge table was already waiting for us on the gallery where we had a good view on the tables and the bar underneath us. We used the whole space on the gallery, because so many of you showed up! It was great to see old and new faces on our table. When all chairs were taken and everyone got their discounted drinks, it was time for a fun game: Bingo.

The first round was played as usual, crossing numbers off your paper as you hear them. After repeating numbers as 17 and 70 hundred times, we eventually got a winner in our round. Rebecka was the lucky one who shouted bingo as the first one! The night went on with a more challenging round: music bingo. A song was played and we had to cross the respective name on the paper. We took the chance during these rounds to prepare ourselves for the upcoming karaoke. Classic songs were loudly performed while sitting at the tables. Fun! And again, an INTERNeX winner: Pascal could pick up his price at the bar. Our voices were already warmed-up, so there was just one option where to go next: The Met, of course. Solos and duets were performed and even the entire INTERNeX crew gathered behind the microphones. It was only time to go home, when the lights switched on again. I had a great night and I hope you enjoyed it, too!

See you tomorrow in Kelowna or next Wednesday at The Lamplighter!

INTERNeX Canada: PuB NiGHT Review!

Have you ever tried playing Jenga at a pub? Well neither have I…that is until last night when we all gathered at Doolin’s Irish pub for our weekly meeting 😉  Do you know how nerve-racking it is playing Jenga?! It was still really fun though!

Probably the best part of the night was when we were playing Battle of the Sexes! It was so much fun, except for the fact that there weren’t enough girls so some of the guys had to join the girls team. Unfortunately in the end, the guys team won. But I want a REMATCH. Where are all the girls when you need them? C’mon! There was a question that was asked, “where is the forbidden city located?” to which I answered ‘Vegas’….but the real answer was ‘Beijing’…oops! And now everyone is after me!

And also throughout the night, people kept guessing the amount of chocolate eggs in the jar. Some people went far as to coming up with math formulas and calculations and all that stuff. But the winner in the end was…*drumroll*…Rie! She guessed 220 and the actual amount was 222 (just two numbers off!). I wish I could have guessed.

You all know how much I love the Morrissey pub, but I actually didn’t mind trying a new place this week. And I got to say, Doolin’s Irish Pub was pretty awesome! It  has a very welcoming atmosphere and the music wasn’t too loud so we could talk. And of course the waitresses were friendly as well. But if you’re going to order food there, do NOT order their cheesy bread.

That’s it for now! If you didn’t make it last night, don’t miss out next week for even more awesome games and prizes! For those of you going to the Rockies next week, you should definitely come out because we will be going over some important information about the trip! 🙂

Cheers,

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: Picture of the week!

This picture of the week was taken at our Pub and Club night at the Pint on Friday! It was a huge party with so many people who gathered that night. It was a special event since it was Maike, Jildau, and Tam Ara’s going away party and of course it was a hockey game night in Vancouver! We also had a guest from Westtrek who gave us a one day ticket to either Whistler or Seattle, so we decided to do a draw. And the winner was Queenie! Later during the night, the DJ came on and we all went up to the dance floor. Everyone showed off their dancing moves, and I got to say, some were so hilarious! Overall, the night was a huge success 🙂

Cheers,

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: Frida’s Pictures

Frida won one of the Canucks tickets because she participated in the INTERNeX ‘picture your life’ contest! Frida wrote a beautiful story about her new live in Vancouver and she added some awesome pictures! Enjoy reading!

Something New

The 20th of September a girl from Sweden arrived to beautiful Vancouver. Far away from family and friends, she still belt a bit at home when the taxi stopped outside 1549 34th Avenue, Vancouver, BC. In a country where everything was different the house reminded her of home.

Her new workplace came to be store specialized in sandwiches. The store was located at in a big food court center. Although it might not have been the most exciting environment she had ever seen, the people in it were always smiling at her and making up for it in the best of ways.

Once the girl was walking home from work, she found herself standing absolutely still at the middle of a bridge. She was amazed by the fact that the time seemed to stand still, although the endless line of cars were rushing by behind her back. The scene before her eyes were just so beautiful. It became one of her favourite places, a place where she could breath.

As time went by, the girl made lot of new friends from all over the world. Together with these friends she rediscovered the fun in a pair of skated and some frozen water. she had forgotten how much fun she used to have on the ice! The fact she started with a more or less painful fall did not stop her, she could always explain the bruises as worrier-wounds if someone would ask! And she made an awesome new friend; the blue plastic  “helper” named Igor. And it was wonderful to see how he always was there for her, supporting her in every move.

One very cold day in November the girl and a few of her friends went to Whistler, not to ski since the skiing season was not yet to start, but to take a long walk along the side of a big lake. Just as they thought that they could not get any colder, they met another group of people. This new group were swinging themselves in a rope above the icy water, just for fun, and made the girl surprise herself by joining them! But when they stripped their clothes of to just underwear she took a step back and settled for watching them as they let go of the rope and broke the calm surface of the lake during loud screams of joy and, as she figured, very cold water! There would be a lot more of those great days after that one, but it would definitely become one of her absolutely favorite ones.

three months in vancouver and the girl has a feeling that it is her favourite place in the world, missing nothing but her friends and family.

I would like to thank Frida for sharing to great story with us! It is awesome to see that she enjoys her life in the great city of Vancouver! Furthermore I am happy that she had a great time watching the Canucks playing against Minnesota!

Cheers, Lydia

ps: I hope to see you all on Wednesday on the PuB Night in Steamworks!!
