INTERNeX Canada: Picture of the week

Our picture of the week is, of course, four our new intern Tobias! He arrived last Monday to the office and his first week was pretty busy!

The Beautiful German Crew

If you don’t know, he’s a 21 years old guy from South Germany. He studies Business Administration, Department of Banking, in a program which combines 3 month training and 3 months at university.  He likes soccer and tennis and hang out with friends.

So this picture was taken in his first PuB NiGHT in The Metropole. We went there last Wednesday to watch the Hockey Game. You can read the entire review here if you are interested.

I made him a little interview about how was his first week here!

 

What was thing that most surprised you about Vancouver?

I think it is definitely the matter of fact that Vancouver is so multicultural. It’s kind of surprising how many people you meet whose origin is not Canada!

 

What was the best and the worst thing during your first week?

The best thing was that I experienced how nice and helpful people are in Vancouver especially my office mates and of course my host family!

The worst thing? I don’t remember any negative moments, because Vancouver is amazing!

 

What did you do to overcome the jet lag?

I tried don’t sleep during the flight from Germany to Canada. Hence I could sleep better the first night, but I was wrong: I only slept 4 hours! But I arrived on Friday, so I had Saturday and Sunday to relax.

 

One thing that you have to bring in your luggage.

Definitely your Letter of Introduction! I saw a few students waiting at Immigration for a long time, because they forgot them LOL.

So welcome Tobias! We are so happy to have a new intern, and we are sure we will have a lot of fun together!

INTERNeX Canada: How to overcome the Post Vacation Blues

September is a sad month; we have to deal with this. It’s a strong feeling that starts when you are a child; an August is running to its end. Is the first kind of melancholia that a kid has.

In television the awful school commercials appears to disturb your (at least until this moment) quiet and happy life. Suddenly you start to need to wear a jacket during the sunset, and you cannot organize more fake weeding on the beach because your summer lover already left.

September is grey and smells like a new backpack. September sucks.

And when you are and adult, this feeling continue, but you have to come back to the university or your job. Is very normal to feel very depressed after the holidays, in fact, this feeling is clinically known as post-travel depression (PTD). Basically, you don’t feel able to come jump into you routine and you start to hate your job as soon as you arrive to the office.

But this is a normal feeling and we CAN overcome that. So here you are some tips to deal with this!

Accept that you will feel a little bit depressed

It’s a common feeling that everybody can have, for some people is easier to overcome, but for others, I so hard that they even have to go to the psychologist. So think that better times will come.

Take your time to back to your routine

Get the day off before come back to the work is a good idea. Take your time to do your laundry, put your things in order and go bed early. Sleep more hours that you use to do.

Try to come back to your normal schedule as soon as possible

The routine is good to beat the jet lag. Try to eat at the same hours every day, practice sports and have a healthy life in general. We usually have unhealthy habits during the holidays, so try to transform the terrible firsts week in an opportunity to purify your body.

Do things!

We always have more energy after a big trip, so hang out with your friends; do things after work, stay busy!  And remember that one candy per day is one of the best thing to avoid the depression, according to my grandmother, and my grandmother is one of the the wisest persons on the world.

INTERNeX Canada: Hospitality Program

Today, we would like to introduce you the Hospitality Program. Do you want to travel but you don’t have enough money?

The Hospitality Program allows you to travel abroad, improve your English and earn money at the same time. But there are not the only benefits that you can obtain:

INTERNeX Canada: HiGHLiGHTS of the Week Ep11!

This INTERNEx HiGHLIGHTS it’s a farewell at the same time… from Jelle. This was his last week as an INTERNeX intern.

The first that you could read in the last office was a poster in the wall with two different definitions of an internship. I cannot remember exactly what was written but it was something like this I guess:

1) Bring coffees, make photocopies and do the things that nobody wants.

2) Learn; improve your knowledge and skills, being part of a company.

We hope that Jelle had the last one with us. INTERNeX is one of the leader companies which provides internships in Canada, so as Tim always says, our internship has to be the best. Good philosophy, isn’t it?

An internship in Vancouver can be so many things: See one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, confuse 5 cents coins with 10 cents coins, maple syrup, problems to understand the bus schedule, rainforest, differences between ride a bike in Netherlands and in Vancouver, meet a bunch of new people, learn to say cheers in 15 different languages… have a card with your name (you feel so important)…

A lot of things that I’m sure that Jelle wanted to tell us about how was his short life in Vancouver. But we don’t have time for so many things! We only have one video per week, so he tried to explain us the real highlights as an INTERNeX PR. Our trip to the Rockies, skydiving, many many pub nights, have to record a video the day after the pub night with Simon… and say thanks to the INTERNeX people!

Farewells are sad and happy moments at the same time. Today he starts a road trip around USA with her girlfriend, so we hope that he will have fun. Don’t forget us!

INTERNeX Canada: Jelle says ‘Goodbye friends and Vancouver..’

Well, that’s it.. Today I will end my 15-week internship at INTERNeX. In my final blog I want to look back and thank everybody for this awesome time.

I still remember the first week in the beginning of May.. I just bought my bike and with a big jetlag I took off for my first day at the office. It was a bit confusing to hear all your upcoming tasks when you are half asleep ;). But absolutely everyone that works here gave me a really nice welcome! I was overwhelmed by the friendly attitude of Canadians and my colleagues.

I will remember this stay for many, many years. We did so much fun stuff together! Our weekly pub nights, the cool trips/events in the weekends, the water rafting in Chilliwack, aaaaand of course the big Rocky Mountains trip! That was just: WOW..

To Tim and all my colleagues at INTERNeX, thanks for making my stay so comfortable, amazing, fun and AWESOME! I learned so much about working with people from a different culture. I’m happy that INTERNeX gave me this opportunity. It’s a lifetime experience.

It will be a bit strange to leave Vancouver Friday morning. Right now this city feels like a second home for me.. After my holidays in the USA I will start my third year at Tio University. No more weekly pub nights and big trips. Instead of that I will continue my international tourism education.. But I’m motivated and ready to go for this last year!

At last I want to give a big thanks, hug and goodbye to everyone that I met during my stay, and that gave me one of my best summers ever, thank you!!
