Meet the Candidate

This week I had the pleasure to interviewing Steffi who comes from Germany. Steffi has been here with us for almost two months and she plans to stay in Canada until late spring next year. Here are her experience and thoughts of Vancouver and Canada so far:

The people who live here are very friendly and helpful. Vancouver is by far the greatest city to live in, mostly because of the easy access to almost everything where you will have both city-life and nature close by – a city surrounded by incredible nature, mountains, ocean and she loves all the outdoor activities that comes with it. Vancouver is also known to have a lot of homeless people living here, which is so different from back home in Germany, you don’t see it very often. She says she had a great experience with the public transport here in Vancouver; they are always on time and is way better than the public transport in Germany, haha 😉

For the moment she’s working here in Vancouver at a restaurant in New Westminster as a cashier where her daily duties include customer service. Working in a restaurant is a great way to meet locals and people from all over the world and is also a great way to learn about cultures themselves. At the end of January she plans to volunteer at a ranch somewhere in the mountains for a few months before she returns to Germany. How cool is that?? After her time here in Canada, she plans to go back to Germany to save some money before her studies start at University next fall. She wants to become a teacher within the subjects of German & English or German & French.

Bucket list? She says she has already experienced a lot during her time here, but she definitely wants to meet more people. She really wants to experience a Hockey game which is #1 on her bucket list. Lucky you! INTERNeX plans to go see a Hockey game on the 18th of November. Another thing she has on her bucket list is visiting museums in Vancouver; there is a police museum not far from here that got a lot of good reviews and would be so cool to visit.

Highlights? All the friendships she made here, the trips organized by INTERNeX: a daytrip to Whistler where she experienced Whistler on a mountain bike and a gondola ride to two mountain peaks experiencing the view of Whistler and of the mountain peaks surrounding the village – what an amazing feeling. She hiked Grouse Grind at Grouse Mountain where she met the two Grizzly Bears that live there all year-round. The weekly Pub Nights are organized by INTERNeX where you have the chance to meet new people, try out new delicious food and partying all together.

‘A must go’ while you are in Vancouver? 1. The Pub Nights and Karaoke nights organized by INTERNeX. 2. Hiking up to Grouse Mountain. 3. A visit to Stanley Park – which is a great park if you want to have a break from the city and want to explore incredible nature. 4. A visit to the Public Library where you can grab a coffee and read a book, especially on a cold, rainy day.

What has been the most fun activity so far? The mountain-bike ride in Whistler. A Fright Nights experience at PNE – a Halloween themed play land with a bunch of roller coasters and haunted houses. The Thanksgiving Potluck at the beach where we played beach volleyball; it was a great way to get to know new and ‘old’ candidates.

What has been your favourite free time activity? Exploring Stanley Park which is a beautiful park on the west side of downtown Vancouver and the best part of the park is that it doesn’t feel like the park is near a city; it has a calm and peaceful environment. Last but not least, cooking and movie nights together with friends 🙂

We are so happy to have her here with us and now you have the chance to meet her today through INTERNeX Instagram Takeover, where you can see what a day in Vancouver can look like, ask her questions and get to know her better. Check it out!
