International Dinner

The fondest memories are made gathered around the table, so join us for our international dinner on April 5th.

Since we landed in Vancouver, we had a lot of burgers, sushi and fries. So it is time to step back from all the burgers and fries and eat some home-made traditional meals. Every country or culture has some food which is very typical or traditional for them, so go in to the kitchen and make that delicious meal for your international friends and they will make some delicious food for your.
The dinner will take place on the 5th of April at 7pm in the INTERNeX office, which is located on 88 West Pender street in the International Mall. We do have a small microwave to heat up your food. We do not expect you to cook a huge meal, just something small and traditional, however if you like to cook or bake a whole meal, we do not mind! If you could bring 1$ that night, we can provide you with plates, cutlery and cups. Since we are located in a mall we are NOT allowed to have alcoholic drinks during the dinner, so please do not bring any alcohol to the office. After the dinner we can go for an after-dinner-drink to the Bismarck, which is just a minute walk from the office.

We hope to see you on Saturday April 5th for a nice dinner at the office

INTERNeX Canada: Casual Friday “Happy Mother’s Day”

Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood all around the globe. Though is celebrated on different dates depending on the country, it’s for sure and special date for all of us!

Happy-Mother-Day-2012

In Canada, is one of the most popular festivals after Christmas and Valentine’s Day and is celebrated in the second Sunday of May (like most of the several countries around the world which celebrate this festivity). So this year, it’ll be celebrated the 12th of May!

In Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Lithuania, Hungary and Rumania for example, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of May, instead of the second one.

Although we don’t celebrate it exactly the same day (in many other countries is celebrated in an entirely different time of the year), the spirit is the same: we pay tribute to our mothers and thank them for their amazing constant support, unconditional love and their devotion.

Normally, cards and flowers are the most common gifts, but I think we should be creative and show our “personal” character on them.

For example, what about a small trip? Or a therapeutic massage? Sounds great eh? Of course it does, and I know our mothers will appreciate that!

Sometimes, I know mothers just want them us to be happy and just  a few words are more than enough. The most important issue is to demonstrate our love and support, like they do every time with us!

For all the world’s mothers: HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY !!

Best,

Mercedes

INTERNeX Canada: Highlights of the Week

Even though it’s almost the end of January, this is the week when I’ve finally felt like my life is back on track and not in holiday mood.

We welcomed Flora, our new PR intern who is Canadian and loves Vancouver like most of you have grown to. Get to know her more by reading her introduction. I know you’ll love her as much as I do already!

Who are the Canadians? Sometimes it is difficult to tell because Vancouver is so international! You might meet a person from, let say China, who has lived here since they were a baby or you might meet one who has just come to do an internship for a few months. Either way, Vancouver is a great place for people of all nations!

Speaking of internships, if you are thinking of doing one, don’t think! It’ll be one of your best experiences and it will not only help further your career and education, but it’ll change your life in ways you can’t imagine.

The Canucks are back so we decided that for our Pub Night it would be great to watch one of their practices beforehand. Then, we headed off to The Cambie for some much needed drinks, nachos and catch up!

Everything happens for a reason, right? It is hard to let go of bad moments or mistakes that you’ve made in the past, but these experiences are what’s going to make you stronger. So let it go and just enjoy the present by doing something that makes you happy!

Cheers,

Queenie

INTERNeX Canada: Casual Friday

One of the most common conversations is around how fast the time goes! Time flies, isn’t it? But there are so many countless and unforgettable moments that you’ll keep on mind forever…

When something important finishes in a way that you didn’t expect, no matter if it is about your professional or your personal life, people usually blame themselves for wasting their time doing that…

I can totally understand that posture but I just can’t think like that. If something happens must be for a reason, and there is no better way to learn that learning or your own mistakes.

If you spent your time doing a job that you didn’t like, it’s OK. You realize and probably understand more about what you want or you don’t want in your future.

If you started one degree that you didn’t like, you didn’t waste one year of your life. You win the chance to know what you want to become one day and what certainly not.

If you spent your time with someone that was special for you and you were special for that person as well but in some point that changes… Forget about the hate; just try to stay positive and happy for enjoying that special time. Feel proud of yourself for being able to trust that person, sometimes and more after bad experiences is not that easy, and you have to be really brave to open up yourself once again. But it doesn’t make any sense to try to hate someone that you just love (d). It’s not really sincere, and lie is always an option, for sure, but there is just one person who you would never be able to lie. Yourself.  So always follow what you think, and what you feel, no matter what the rest of the world tell you.

So forget the word mistake, just call it experience.

Enjoy this Friday doing something or with someone that makes you smile! That should be the only rule of this life!

Cheers,

Irene
