How was the weekend?

I bet you were lazier than some of us this weekend, because let me tell you, we took on quite a challenge, but we made it!

Sunday was the day. Equipped with lots of water, snacks and some caffeine we were optimistic to reach our goal: Hiking the Grouse Grind.

I mean, I’ve read about it before, heard from others how hard it was, but really I didn’t believe it. I got proved wrong. It turned out to be one of the more challenging hikes I’ve done so far. Not that I’m a professional, but I thought I’d be fitter. šŸ˜€ The hike is about 2.5 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 800m with a total of 2,830 stairs! That’s pretty tough.

The hardest part for me was the beginning, because you go up and up and up… and there seems to be no end. Then, finally a sign! It tells you that you reached the 1/4 mark. Pretty demotivating to me. But it turns out none of us is a quitter, so we kept going, reached half way and kept going! From that point it was clear, there’s no way back down now.

On our way we saw a lot of people struggling, which made me feel a little better, because I knew I’m not alone. Of course we also saw people passing us with such lightness, but I told myself “they’ve probably done this many times before”. I also think the actual challenge was not the hike itself, but the fact that you want to be faster than others. You try to pass people, or at least not lose sight of them. You try to make it up the mountain in less than the average time of two hours, which makes the hike even harder than it already is.

After seeing the 3/4 mark I felt motivated to reach the top. I could feel I’m in the homestretch and I increased my pace. The feeling of finally reaching the top was incredible. Since the weather was very cloudy, the view was very limited, but at least the air was nice and cool, perfect for a workout like this. After everyone arrived we had some food and drinks at the Chalet before we went exploring the mountaintop a little further.

We tried to spot the two grizzly bears Grinda and Coola, who reside at Grouse mountain, but they were asleep. On our way back down with the gondola we got lucky and had an amazing view over Vancouver. All in all, I’d say it was a pretty successful day.

Would I do the Grouse Grind again? – Maybe.

What about you? Have you done it? Or is it on your list? Was your weekend active? Or lazy?

Tell me more about it next Pub Night, 7pm at Sailor Hagar’s in North Vancouver! It’s only a short walk from the sea bus and has a beautiful view over Downtown Vancouver. Plus, it’s a real neighbourhood pub, as Canadian as it gets. šŸ˜‰

See you all there!

Cheers,

Laura šŸ™‚

How was Pub Night?

Yeehaw!! I don’t even know where to start…it was sooo much fun! Last night we went to the Yale Saloon and I think it’s the first country bar I’ve been to and probably not the last one. šŸ˜€
I was told to brace myself for a lot of action and yeah…it wasn’t a “relaxing” Pub Night with only food and some drinks at all.

Right after ordering our first drinks the fun part already started. We did Line Dancing! I really didn’t expect it to be so much fun. For those of you who didn’t know yet: Line dancing is a choreographed country dance.img_5910
So first an instructor taught us the choreography step by step and when he said that we’re gonna do it with some music now I was really nervous because I didn’t feel ready. And as expected I messed up in the beginning because it was so much faster than before! But since the steps are repeating I could get myself back into it. It still was a little chaos on the dance floor though šŸ˜€

img_5905After a couple more drinks my highlight of the evening started…the BULL RIDING. Some of you guys said it’s a ritual for the new ones to do it so I had no choice but I’m glad I tried it. Let’s stick with ā€œtriedā€ because I wasn’t really good at it, although I guess it is the thought that counts – right? šŸ˜‰
My biggest worry was not even getting on the bull but I did it (well not really elegant but never mind!)
It was so great to see how everyone cheered for the others! I love the INTERNeX team spirit! ā¤
Furthermore we played some pool and some guys even used the punching bag to show how strong they are (or not? – just kidding :D) I really enjoyed it and hope you had as much fun as me!

So this was definitely NOT my last time at the Yale Saloon and I can’t wait to go back.

Thanks so much! xx Ā

Cheers,

– Alina

Alina’s First Pub Night

My very first Pub Night with the INTERNeX family!

Yesterday was my first time at Pub Night and I still can’t believe how many of you INTERNeXersĀ were there. First of all, I want to thank you for such a warm welcome! Obviously I didn’t get the chance to talk to everyone, but I’m pretty sure I will get to know all of you shortly and I can’t wait! When I tried to take a group picture, I realized I had to take two, from each end of the table, because I couldn’t get everyone into one. šŸ˜€

So last night we went to the Beaver. It’s a really nice Pub on Granville Street, which I was told is THE street downtown to go out. And actually I was pretty impressed by how much was going on there on a Wednesday night, because where I come from it’s not common that a street is still so crowded late on a weekday. We started our evening with some food and drinks and because we became more and more people over time the waitresses had to add another table again and again.

Later at night we played bingo. I was really excited because it was a music bingo and I haven’t played it before and some of you couldn’t even wait for it to start. It was so much fun even though I didn’t even know most of the titles of the songs but others did and then we just helped each other. Great team work guys! Three of us even won a price. They got a pitcher and a shot for free. Lucky you! I definitely want to come back to the Beaver because I really want to win too. šŸ™‚

After that a part of the group continued their night and went somewhere else afterwards, but others just headed home since they had to get up early this morning.
So a couple of us could take the same skytrain back home and this ride was a little adventure for itself. We were standing there and all of a sudden the train made an emergency stop. It was actually fun because we fell onto each other kind of like dominos. And even the door opened a little, but fortunately nothing happened and we just stopped for about a minute and then we could continue our ride. We just didn’t expect it at all. šŸ˜€
All in all I had a really fun night and I’m even more looking forward to the other Pub Nights and of course our trips on the weekends.
Furthermore, I can’t wait to get to know all of you more and spend lots of time with you guys!

So have a great day and see you soon!

Cheers,

– Alina

Pub-Night Review

So much love!Ā

I am not going to do the whole emotional goodbye post just yet, but I’ll have to say how incredibly sad I am, that this was officially my last Pub-Night!Ā And I think we absolutely made it count.

The night started of as usual, a few drinks and some food. But instead of having some chats, drinks and food first, this time we hit the dance floor right away!
It must have been a very strange picture, especially for the new guys, to see us very much gifted dancers, humbling around as if there is no tomorrow.
So as you clearly must have noticed – there is no judgment in this group :P. You will fit in just perfectly.
5537c5ce-93ff-4a94-a613-64314a457eb5.JPGUnfortunately the Yale Saloon didn’t give me the chance to say goodbye to the one and only bull, but I am sure our love is strong enough to overcome the distance.
Besides, how great are you guys?! It was absolutely amazing to see how many people showed up. Thank you so so much.
Even though, I believe the waiter wasn’t as excited as I was. Especially considering the fact that instead of 15 people, 30 showed up … I am very sorry for that.
After surviving the traditional disgusting shots (check internex_canada on Instagram for video proof), everything was set for an awesome night.
After ruling the dance floor in the Yale Saloon for quite a while, we decided, that those skills need to be shared with the world and made our way to The Roxy (what a surprise, I know).
As soon as we got there, we got kinda distracted by the beerpong table. I think it’s a pretty well-known fact that INTERNeXer’s hearts skip a beat as soon as there is a the slight chance of a good match in the air.
However after only 99999999 matches, we decided to go for a slice of pizza and eventually end the night.Ā

Thank you guys so much for not only this Pub-Night, but also all the others in these past months! It has been a blast!Ā

Love,Ā

Pub-Night Review

Another Wednesday has come and gone and what a fun night it has been again to see everyone but also so many new faces at Pub Night!Ā

IMG_0328.jpgThis week we went to the Two Parrots. They had reserved a whole gallery by the windows for us and created a new sort of space for us – a circular table setting in which many of us started out with some great food and drinks. Having become a dark beer enthusiast lately, I tried a Stanley Park Brewery special which had the greatest taste – a combination of the typical dark beer flavour, stripped off the extreme bitterness some dark beers might have, in addition with a nice taste of sweetness. Lovely, especially in combination with the very Canadian dish of Poutine!

IMG_0329.jpgIMG_0333.jpg
As the evening went by, it was great to see so many of our Newbies joining, getting introduced to the group and mingling with everyone – I actually heard that some of them ended up on a bull that night and were also properly introduced to the Yale tradition by some of our ā€œseniorā€ participants. All in all a good night with lots of drinks, food and lovely chats! ☺Please be reminded of our very important Pub Night
next week, which will lead us to the Cambie, which is not only Vancouver’s oldest bar, but also a historic setting for legendary Beer Pong tournaments. Next week, especially, the motto will be: All in, we can only win!!

Se y’all very soon, have a wonderful week! ☺

– Felicitas
